Just kind of detail Hitchcock did so well. Spielberg is that kind of visual storyteller too, a director who tackles the Big Questions but is just as careful with the little things.

Hitchcock's favourite. Joseph Cotten used to spend every Fourth of July with Alfred Hitchcock and his family. I once knew the lady who became nanny to Hitchcock's daughter. She said one day the front doorbell rang....she answered it and there was Cary Grant. He said "Hello!!" and kissed her on the cheek. She told me she didn't wash her face for a week.

Pat Stokes blood, sex and gore is everything I see as wrong with Hollywood today. It’s terrible how ingrained all three have become in modern culture and movies. Hitchcock once said during the filming of psycho that he did it in black and white so they didn’t have to show the blood. But you knew it was blood. His love scenes in notorious or North by northwest. Sexual innuendos and suggestive. But never over the top or excessively pornographic. Because you don’t need that. Any story should be told as simply and cinematically as possible and everything needs to be subordinated to the story.
