Agree. I would also say that I'm not particularly happy with what they did to Joyce. Like S1 and S2 Joyce was a complete badass who was always the first person to figure out what was going on and come up with solutions and answers that even the viewer didn't see coming, Then in S3 she and Hopper are kinda turned into this comedy duo, and S4 Joyce doesn't do anything except figure out that Hopper is alive and participate in yet another comedy duo this time with Murray.

Well, to be fair, the kids themselves never really did much in the first place. In season one they just kinda walked around with 11, and she did all the stuff. In season 3, they do work together to get billy in the sauna, but again for most of the season they’re just there while eleven does stuff. And then when eleven loses her powers all anyone does is just distract the monster while she talks to Billy. In this season they’re still doing just about as much as they did before. Mike and Will trying to find eleven, and then Dustin and Lucas helping with the older kids, if anything, max being the distraction actually is one of the most meaningful things the kids have done to fight the mind-flayer/vecna

We see her lack of understanding in fashion, and subsequent lack of social awareness, through her very mismatched layering (like wearing a blue sport shirt over a pastel floral long-sleeve top). Like the reply above mine pointed out, the flannel makes sense as she’s mourning the “death” of hopper, so wearing something that reminds her of her time with him is very much in character. In my opinion, El in S3 was very out-of-character the whole season. She would flip-flop between speaking like an ordinary teen and speaking with poor grammar in fragmented sentences. So her whole style transformation felt in character for Season 3 El - since she had sort of “found herself” and her clothes reflected that - but it was out of character for S1-2 and 4 El (if that makes any sense). That being said I do wish she had worn less outfits with messy colour schemes, and instead have worn articles of clothing that aren’t supposed to be worn together in more visually appealing colours.
for me, the only disappointing part about this season was the California group, aside from Argyle they're the least interesting tbh. I love all other plot lines though, and I liked that they brought Hopper back because of the father dynamic with El, I think their relationship is a major arc for their characters, especially because of Hopper's late daughter Sarah. Apparently many main characters will die in volume 2, so I think that might make up for Hopper returning? Idk, I just know that season 2 and 4 are my favorites because to me they're the darkest ones and I love that kind of genre.

I completely, 100% agree with the Hopper one. I shed literal tears for HOURS after hearing the "keep the door 3 inches open" from his letter. Why does everyone forget that Will had a parasite. He was infected by an intelligent enemy, luring others in to look for him. As far as the story, its all leading up to a showdown with Vecna, who uses your depression against you. I quite liked Stranger Things S4… as it’s own standalone series that had nothing to do with the previous three seasons. It feels like the first two seasons were exploring the first idea the showrunners had for the reasoning behind the upside down and then the fourth season was them exploring a totally different narrative. Like, in this one, Vecna picks on people with trauma and lifts them into the air to kill them, but in the first season, people were killed and/or brought into the upside down randomly?! what relation had the demigorgon to Vecna, I don’t feel like that was ever adequately mapped out.

Mike is probably my favorite character as well. People hate on him for reasons I cannot see. He has always been a good boyfriend and an emotional kid. The show has been giving him less and less importance since season 2. People have dogged on him since season 3 for absolutely no reason. He was a great boyfriend in season 3; going with El everywhere, spending as much time as possible with her when she couldn’t stay out late, until max influenced el to split from him, and was still the only character concerned for her well-being. Hopper treated both of them terribly. I have never seen this love triangle aspect for the three kids. There has never been a time where mike displayed any seemingly romantic feelings for will. He has always been with eleven, he has always acted like he wants eleven. It was never a back and forth like with Nancy, Jonathan and Steve. It wasn’t even until last season where anybody saw them together, even still it’s very much 1 sided (poor will, nobody cared about him until knowing he was gay)

This is an interesting conversation because I remember going blind into season one, there's one scene that happens at the very beginning, when the 4 boys are leaving Mike's house just before Will goes missing. I felt the vibe between Will and Mike right there when they were saying goodbye, and I was like oh these 2 will date in the future. Then some scenes later Eleven was introduced as Mike's love interest so I forgot about the whole Will & Mike dynamic. For this reason, I do disagree with people saying Mike doesn't love Will, I see Mike as someone who is probably Bi because although he loves El, he definitely cares about Will in a more than friend way. The way he acts with him, you'll never see him act that way with Lucas/Dusty. But again, I understand why some people (especially straight people) would not feel the mutual interest vibe because for straight people you put two opposite sex characters on screen for 1 minute and they will assume they're love interests but for put same-sex characters and the same people are always in denial to the point where they want it to be spelled out that the characters love each other.@@Camilla550

I think my biggest complaint with stranger things is that they refuse to kill anyone from the main cast unless they’re introduced that same season or an antagonist. Barb was the only character with an excuse for that since it was impossible for her to have been introduced any earlier than she was. It also bugs me that any time an established main character has “died,” it’s been a fake out, like with hopper at the end of season 3 or max at the end of season 4. Going into season 4 i had a really strong feeling that a main character would actually die, so strong that in the graveyard scene with max and when steve was attacked by demobats i genuinely panicked about whether they would make it out. And then at the end that all finally paid off when max started floating off the ground with no music around to save her, and i cried so hard that i had to stop watching for several minutes to calm down. And then i hit play and it cuts to el saying “no” and i knew that she would save max, and it just pissed me off. It makes me feel like an idiot and i refuse to get so worried about the main characters again because now i know that the duffers dont have the guts to kill off an important character like that
@anarchistgoddess6492

the writers have to stop introducing new side characters just for the sake of killing them off so they don’t have to kill off the main characters. They also give the side characters more personality than the main ones so I would care more about their deaths than some of the main characters. Like Bob and the Russian scientist, Alexi. Their deaths hurt more than Lucas or Mikes would tbh lol. Because they add too many characters before ever fleshing out the main ones. So now you just have a bunch of characters no one gives a crap about. Literally all side characters have more personality than the main ones. Argyle, Billy (a bad personality is still a personality lol), Eddie, Murray, etc.

Personally I think the biggest issue with season 4 is the simple fact that the younger actors are no longer able to pass for the age of the characters that they portray. In seasons 1-3 the main child actors were close enough in age to their characters (I think Noah and Millie were actually younger than their characters) that they could pass for that age. Then the pandemic happened, production was shutdown, and actors got older. However, the characters didn’t really get older, they simply started the next school year. So in season 4 it’s obvious that the younger actors are no longer close in age to their characters.

Back then, we absolutely trusted the media. Nowadays...well, we damn sure know better.
for eleven, i think the whole point was that after hoper “died”, she started trauma blocking even more of her already limited memory. i feel as if her season two and three story lines show how dependent she was on hoper, and having him stripped away from her like she was would definitely cause trauma (especially considering the circumstances), and she’d block more and more of her memory to keep herself safe. it makes sense she wouldn’t remember opening the gate considering she was so young and already messed up at the time of the incident. i think this was over all a pretty good season, one of my only complaints is how many different story lines they were following at a time, it was a bit difficult to follow everything, and i wish they had focused a bit more on the california crew, but other then that i feel like volume two will most likely tie up any other (seemingly) lose ends

Yeah, I’ve kind of had enough of the California storyline and Jonathan and Mike are two of my favourite characters. Also with Eleven, I feel like she’s always been dependent on Hopper and Mike, like when in season 3 max was telling her she can be dependent without them and make her own decisions, but she still depended on them. So I think her losing Hopper, and not even being able to do anything to stop him ‘dying’, affected her a lot. And the fact that Mike stopped saying he loved her and didn’t write it in those letters affected her, on top of everything with the bullies, probably made her feel so useless and unwanted. And with the whole Kali thing, Eleven and her were so different, with Kali wanting revenge and Eleven showing mercy when she saw that that man had children, that Kali’s method of anger wouldn’t necessarily always work for Eleven, but at that time she probably felt like she let Kali down because she didn’t kill him

But if the memory stuck, it’s there. No matter how badly I’d love to forget it, it will never not be there. If trauma from Hopper’s disappearance blocked her memory, it would have been from the time in which that particular trauma occurred. At least that’s how it’s been in my experience. I agree with Alex that this feels a bit cheap, and it was definitely not where they thought the story was going in season 1. It’s just that as the show gained traction, they tried to shift the story for a more blockbuster audience. i honestly think it’s the best option she had. eleven spent most of her childhood abused and isolated, and she needs stability and to feel like a normal teenager. if she were to be homeschooled she would’ve felt even more alone and distant, and obviously you can’t put her in a class of 4th or 5th grader, so this was the best option. and besides, she said she is good at math and stuff, and the language gap is being closed slowly

Season 1-2 were awesome compared to 3-4. The thing about 3 and 4 is that there was nothing mysterious about them anymore. They just ended up being too predictable and you knew that the characters wouldn’t die. Season 1 actually kept the main part of the story a complete mystery the whole way through. You never knew what was going to happen until you got to the last couple episodes. Now when you watch 3 and 4, you pretty much know what is going to happen because they are more focused on making the fan favorite characters as likeable as possible.
the memory loss thing is an actual thing called dissociative amnesia. it’s basically when things are so traumatic for a person their brain represses certain events. that’s probably also why elevens vocabulary was so poor in the first couple seasons. her loosing her memory is an actual psychological thing that happens to people that experience major trauma. All of the lessons she learned didn’t “not mean anything” because that’s why how she is now. she didn’t remember all of the lessons she learned because she repressed the memories. yeah it is a kinda sucky plot twist but it’s a very real thing that people go through. so all her development did matter still because that’s how she became who she is. Also one didn’t get his powers in the upside down he always had them. He probably unlocked them because he became “enlightened” or something. He has a mixture of all the kids abilities. So him going the upside down didn’t do anything except make him look like the grinch. also i hate mike he’s the worst character nobody can change my mind :) anyways idk if this explained anything lol

They kinda implied in 4 why 11 was weaker in 3. When she did that enourmous surge of closing the portal, it started her weakening, like getting a fractured leg, and after everything she had to do in 3, it's like the equivalent of continuing to work on a fractured leg and breaking it instead of properly healing. I did detest the retconning of her entire arc, and how kinda pointless her snapping and assaulting her bully was. It was just a convenient plot way to get her to be taken away. It would have been just as effective to have her be grabbed during the insanity of the shoot out. It would have left Mike feeling like more of a failure to protect her, and would have made sense why they are looking for the lab instead of a jail all of a sudden. Her being bullied in general and hiding it made sense, she was the tough can handle literal monsters girl and now can't handle one ordinary teenager so she doesn't want to be seen as weak. But the excessiveness, the way the entire school joined in the bullying, it just made no sense. Why did they hate her so much? Will is weird, too, and they didn't show him being bullied. All of it was just handled poorly as a setup to remove her from the group. Adding 1 and having him manipulate a young 11 was perfectly fine, and they could have shown that negative emotions are what created the portal. There was no reason to have her memory loss as a result of it.

The thing about Season 4 that really kept making me so angry and confused, and just made zero sense to me is the entire Hop in Russia story line ... don't get me wrong it was exciting and brought in some cool scenes and characters. But every single time the show cut to Hopper's story, I would get mad and be like, "this makes zero sense "... at the end of season 3 the entire mall was surrounded by military and police. And it was clear that joyce had told the military what was going on, so how the hell did the Russians who took hopper get out of there?... They literally just did a blah blah blah...RUSSIA! It's a great show, but sometimes they rush through some things that really need to be explained...and by doing the whole Hop and the Russians somehow escaped the mall and town surrounded by the army and police, they completely missed the opportunity to have had Hop and the Russians escape into the upside down to escape the blast... idk that plot hole just bothered me.

Agree.I assumed they went through the portal. I did think the storyline was good though. Hard to watch, but the idea they all were battling one entity in three separate parts of the world was worth it.
I feel like Season 4 brings out some long running issues with the show. Too many characters, no tension cause nobody from the main cast can die, too many plots. If we let Hopper stay dead, then Joyce can replace Argyle and we can have a family journey with the Byres family, and Mike I guess. That’s only 3 plots. And yeah I agree that it’s kinda odd how literally EVERYTHING surrounding Vecna just comes out of nowhere. Like it doesn’t feel like it’s recontextulizing the show, it just feels like a retcon. And Eleven just forgets literally everything that happened. Oh also Mike sucks 😛 I still absolutely adore the show, and I love all the seasons, but there’s a bunch of issues. I hope Season 5 cuts down to the original cast more. Give Jonathan and the kids other than El and Max more stuff to do, with more interesting personal and character complexes.

I feel like they just tossed out most of the character development from the previous 3 seasons. I Honestly think that the show could of ended with Season 3 and I would have been satisfied with the ending, even though I love Hoppers Character. Season 4 just doesn’t fit with the rest of the storyline. Also them completely forgetting about Will in seasons 3 and 4 is horrible, he could be so much more important to the storyline. And the whole 11 thing in season 4 doesn’t make much sense- She can’t talk basically at all in season one yet in her flashbacks she is having full conversations? And I personally think it’s pretty convenient to just have her forget everything that happened in the lab until it’s useful to the plot (I know she may have blocked it out because it’s traumatic, but she has memories of several other traumatic events). I think this is one of the first videos I’ve mostly disagreed with! There’s a lot of hidden details that tie into all of the other seasons and everything seemed to click more for me during this season. It’s not over yet so some plot holes will fs be fixed in the last two. There are also a lot of subtle hints in their playful dialogue, like all of the dnd scenes. But like with Will not getting powers in the upside down like 001, he’s different because he’s not like any of the doctors children. He didn’t have any powers to begin with. And eleven is shown slowly losing her powers as she gets weaker, which was the main point of this season. I will say that a lot of main characters were put on back burner, like Joyce and Jonathan, but I think that’s so we can build up more storyline with the others. I hate riverdale so I hope they never get to true riverdale format lol ETA: I also really appreciated the depth they’ve added to some of the characters. Like Will is starting to come to terms with his pent up feelings and resentment towards Mike that has been building up over the seasons, Lucas is trying to be accepted and well liked by the popular kids but also struggles with not being supported by his friends, Max is dealing with the trauma of watching her abusive brother die and dealing with her guilt. I actually don't think it was just her it was both her and 001 together that caused the portal to open (at least I believe this) And the world in upside down is probably the world 001 more or less created he said he wanted to create a better different world and I mean.. yea.. anyway why would no one mention her opening the portal before? Well if someone experiences a traumatic event that wipes their memory you actually can't just go and tell them or remind them just like that.. so of course why would they imply on it?? I think they did Eleven perfectly and the show did it well. That's like the only point I had to counter because I liked how the actress did it. Even having ptsd attacks and such throughout which are unseen. Though it did annoy me that it went out of no where, I still think it was fine. Nothing like Riverdale. You said I can't relate my experiences with fictional characters but ptsd is a real disorder and you saying it as a reason or excuse is invalidating many people with ptsd. I'm saying as someone with ptsd, I felt as though both Alex and many others should research it and it's many symptoms before saying the show did it wrong. If the show did it wrong then people must be comparing it to the real thing which is why I, as someone who has had it for 10+ years, am saying personally they did it fantastically. This is not an attack if it may seem like one just that I am comparing the show to the real life illness. Both max and el have ptsd and it's been shown multiple times as someone with ptsd.
One rule that Stranger Things has never, ever broken is no character will die who is on the good side and has also been on the show for more than one season. Which basically encompasses all the main characters. It's funny, because they hyped up the deaths for Season 4 so much before it came out, hinting and hinting and hinting that main characters would actually die. And yet, the deaths followed the same rule as all the other seasons.
The reason 001 got powers but not Will is probably because of what 011 did to him. Also it could be an effect of him being in the middle of dimension being created in real time right next to him
"Chrissy's death didn't effect him in any way." Eddie: "Chrissy, this one's for you." That's after beating himself up for not being able to do anything while she was being murdered and leaving her, and before sacrificing his life for others. The color of anger is red, the color of sadness is blue but if you have the same powers as her and send someone in the upside down with the screams of anger you will instantly past out after 77 seconds and forget that you sent someone in the upside down, if you bring a book from 1986 and go to the red upside down it shows "1979" but if you go to the blue upside down it says "1983" so Alex is basically wrong. I think the reason why S4 was kinda like all over place is because they didn't expect to make a 4th season they thought S3 would be the last season so they had to make up new story lines and monsters as for the eleven thing I think the story line for her powers is that she learns to use them and then she goes into to slowly losing them and then she has to get them again I agree there's a few problems with stranger things but overall it's one of the best series I've seen (especially coming from Netflix) im not sure if I'm correct that's just what a think , great video
I found it absolutely BIZARRE that Hopper broke both of his ankles yet he can run, jump and climb like nothing ever happened almost the very next episode and to my understanding, there was NOT that much time lapse in between each episode (if any at all). For some reason this really aggravated me. Probably more than it should have. I found myself constantly screaming at my tv “aren’t your ankles fucking broken?!?!” Meanwhile he’s running like it was nothing. No wincing, limping, pain, NOTHING.

Huh. Thinking over it most of the plotholes in the video are wrong but this one is legit and big, no running, no freezing, no infection , certainly no fighting demogorgons. On screen the wound is over the top side of his foot though. Nice catch either way

@@Boa8128 he’s become a fan favorite extremely quickly. He was a great misdirect character. They set up this aggressive, intimidating punk rock character who made you seem like it was another billy and he turns out to be a sweet, dork who likes music, board games, etc and who cares for his new friends.
I love how the writers are like “it absolutely positively ****HAS**** to be this way,” and I’m like does it, though?? Does it really??
Hooper would be my fav character but keeps getting by the idiot bat. Characters can do stupid things without it being bad, sometimes his mistakes make sense with his character, like continually leading Eleven on or without thinking getting angry and punishing her in a way similar to being put in isolation in the lab. It comes from him not knowing how to handle a situation like this and from a place of fear for her. Then you get shit like jumping into a fucking mysterious hole with no known exit that he has good reason to suspect could have monsters in it and not notifying anyone at all when he has a dependent.
That moment when he said “every scene with Dustin in it is the best scene of the episode, and when Dustin and Steve are together it’s just pure tv magic” is the moment I decided to hit the like button 😝

I'll preface this with: I understand why you'd feel this way and everyone's entitled to their own opinions. But here's my own opinion about some of the points you made. - I do think Eleven's character arc is a little repetitive, tbh, but I don't think the Vecna thing reverses any of her character development. If anything we're just reinforcing how her powers work while also learning more about her. Whenever she over exerts she has to go back to the basics, so when she loses her powers entirely, she has to go back even further. When she sends Vecna off into the Upside Down, it's possible she didn't just "open a portal" but that she actually created the whole fuckin' place. Leaving 001 the opportunity then to sort of be the first to connect with it and shape it. It's also possible that it's frozen the next time the portal opens because Will (the first to be taken) had an influence over it, or maybe Vecna just finally had an opportunity to connect back with this world, but we still haven't had an explanation for that so I wouldn't say it's a plot hole yet, just a plot point. - I'm going to hazard a guess that the characters act dumb because they're no older than 14-15. Why did Mike think it was epic when El hurt his bullies, but not her own? Probably because in the moment, he was thinking selfishly, as well as the fact that I'm pretty sure the bullies were threatening him and his friends, making fun of Will's death, and had been likely torturing them for years whereas he only learned within that afternoon that Angela was a bully and not El's friend. Mike's character arc this season isn't fully done but it seems to me that he's coming to terms finally with El being her own human and not an idealized person he had in his head, and it's possible he actually doesn't love her in the romantic sort of way. Idk. Will also deserve more screentime imo but he's kind of quietly been going thru character development, getting a bit bolder across the seasons, I'm guessing vol2 will give him the big catharsis of a coming out scene so that'll give people more to chew on. I also actually really liked Mike and Will's interactions this season because they were incredibly close s1 & s2, so we finally get to see them back together and close after Mike's asshole arc in s3. I can see why people might find them boring if they're not as invested in that friendship though. - The gang all being seperated does suck and some of the extra characters like Jason are not very interesting, but I don't understand how Eddie isn't "related to the main characters". He's directly shown to be a role model for Dustin and Mike in the episode he's introduced, and then further is integrated pretty well into the Dustin/Steve/Robin group. Also Chrissy and Fred pretty much immediately die, they're basically filler/side characters to show how Vecna works which has been done across all of the seasons, so I don't get what's wrong with them. Jason is most annoying, and Argyle feels unnecessary to me, but most of the other added characters serve some kind of function. I have a feeling that this "season" might feel half baked right now to you because, well, there's still like 3 or 4 hours of content left to go when vol2 drops. We haven't gotten everyone's character arcs to finish yet and we also don't know how many people are going to die in the finale, not do we know the full lore about certain things. Vecna's monologue was kind of a lore dump but it was also only from his own manipulative mouth, so he could still be hiding shit we've yet to find out. I think s4 is one of the stringer seasons but it is a little too bloated for its own good, but I also think sometimes people are forgetting shit like... The ages of the main characters, or the fact that it's actually realistic for characters to have flaws. .... Okay that's all I'm just too invested in the show for my own good, congratulations if you read all that.

Your first point, It's obvious that El didn't create the Upside Down and I don't know why people assume so - I do agree that the whole Vecna thing doesn't reverse her character development, but in reality she hasn't received a single development this season really, which is just as bad. Your second point, I agree with. Your third point, I would sort of disagree and say Jason is some what interesting because we finally get a character that isn't knowledgable of the upside down just as we and the other characters are, but is just as involved. In my opinion, makes him extremely realistic, imagine your girlfriend dying and the person who was there with her just disappears? He'll most likely not die this season and get a 'redemption' arc of some sort, people hating on him are just weird ass people. (not saying you do but in general, people do). Eddie isn't really a main character only because he's been in 1 season, same logic would be applied to Bob who was only in 1 season, he wasn't a main character. Likewise Eddie isn't. Overall it's a great season, just depends heavily on how it ends. If no major character dies then I'll be disappointed.

It's okay bro I am also incredibly invested and I also came to the conclusion that El made the upsidedown. Ive also been watching the season purely from a PTSD and mental illness point of view and it's kinda incredible how much detail they put into the show. Like in ep. 1 season 4 when Max is walking to the councilor's room and looks at the group of friends, the couple kissing, and then Lucas. Are all things she gained in season 2&3 but lost because of the burden of Billy's dealth. Then when Vecna tries to kill her, her flashbacks reflect what she lost. On a completely different side note, it feels like in this season they were going for a traditional Halloween vibe. With the creepy manner, the bats, graveyard, red creepy fog, spiders, also Fred and agiles song, Tbh it all felt like Scooby doo. I wish I could articulate more stuff but eh this is just a KZread comment

@@shehz I'm not entirely tied to the "El created the UD" theory, but I am curious as to how it's incredibly obvious that it's not true. Right now it seems still up for debate. I'd at least say if she didn't create it, she's probably the first person to access it or bring it closer to the 'real world', since it seems so unformed when 001 is sent in there. And yeah I'd agree that El hasn't had much character growth yet- from interviews the idea seems to be that she'll grow more autonomous this season, so I hope in vol2 we'll see how that manifests. On the Jason point- his reaction to losing his girlfriend is realistic, but he's still an asshole who's gone too far. Like when he started beating up Eddie's bandmates, he had no reason to assume they were at all involved in Chrissy's death aside from just knowing Eddie. And then launching into his whole "D&D is a cult" thing and leading a mob against a group of other teens... Basically he's kind of gone off the deep end. I can see why he'd behave like he does but that doesn't always mean it's good/justified. He's also sort of a symbol of the theme of this season- "forced conformity, that's what's killing the kid", he's the enforcer of the status quo. I'd have to assume he's going to die this season tbh. Also I just think they spend too much time on his storyline that could be spent elsewhere & we'd still end up understanding his motivations. You're allowed to like him but I don't think it's all that weird that people would hate his character since he's kind of the mini/human villian of the storyline.
My complaint comes from vecna himself. Retcons almost all of El's arc, has absolutely no real motives to be a villain, is the least intimidating design, rarely threatens the main cast, then promply gets gunned down by people who never heard of him until then, then just Michael Myers his way out of the plot
Mike was told that Angela was El’s friend, he was just confused and didn’t know what el was going through

To be fair, the government shipped Eleven and the Byers across the country into witness protection to get away from the shenanigans of the earlier seasons. The freakout, at least to me, was because even Mike was all, "Dude, you cant be doin this. Gotta keep it on the downlow."

I wouldn't say they are under a witness protection program, all of them still use their real names except for El who wasn't even registered and all of them still keep in touch with people they knew before they moved and they even consider going back to hawkins to visit (this time mike went to california to see how El's life was there but nancy and jonathan discussed the possibility of jonathan going there)
Wow. You are minimizing his trauma of being an outcast and NEEDING spiders to be friends. I can't believe you.
Not Alex pulling the classic parent "I'm not mad, I'm just *overly dramatic sigh* disappointed" card.
It really annoys me how they are making so many minor or extra characters with borderline or full on psychopathic traits, or at best 0 critical thinking. Even Elle's bully made fun of her dad being dead and and all the other school kids did nothing or were on board. Not one person would at least approach her privately about how messed up that was, not even a teacher? She also made it her full-time job to make her life a living nightmare and harass her with the potential to get expelled and/or sent to juvenile detention for what exactly? Then there's that jock who somehow got the entire town on board to kill children with absolutely no evidence besides circumstantial. like why take characters to these extremes to the point where we get schadenfreude when they get hurt or killed? seems like a cheap and superficial way to get people invested imo.

Jason convincing the town is completely believable. Even when Mike was trying to get a stand-in for the vecna campaign one person says “my mom said that promotes satanic worship and animal cruelty.” Eddie is introduced by reading an article about how d&d promotes murder, and Eddie as a character represents social deviance and non-conformity. The town has been through a series of unexplained deaths for the last three years, the summer prior 30 people died at star court after the mall closed, the federal government + military showed up, and they called it a “mall fire” it makes perfect sense that people would be on edge, the town has been through a lot. Jason represents the towns reaction to social deviance, and also acts as the vessel through which the town interacts with the main characters. Specifically Lucas, because Lucas wants to be popular and accepted. His arc this season was about deciding to be misunderstood with his friends, than accepted without them. He rejects the status quo, rejects the possibility to be popular, for the sake of his friends. It’s not an accident that “forced conformity” is referenced, or that Eddie “the freak” Munson is immediately pegged for devil worship and satanic rituals.

I think one thing to point out with the characters is that they’re older and therefore wiser (or dumber) because of it. The kids are starting high school and have a lot more insecurities as well as opinions, and that’s normal. Mike thought El beating up his bullies when they were young kids was cool, but he might have come to realize that that wasn’t exactly the right way to handle the situation. Furthermore, El was his first crush and first girlfriend. He’s clearly falling out of love with her so he’s not blinded by his feelings for her anymore. His actions do contradict his behaviors from season 1, but he’s done some growing up. People in real life grow and change and if you took everything they said and believed as a kid to heart you’d find contradictions with them too. Similarly, the high school group is now entering a new stage of their life called adulthood. So they’re bound to be going through changes too. I don’t use this an excuse for characters feeling like totally different people but I don’t think they do feel like different people. The only person who bothers me is Jonathan. He seemed a little more edgy in the first season, granted he had a soft side, but in my opinion he was oddly cheery in season 2 and especially in season 3. I guess it made sense but he just lacked charm imo. I actually think Argyle was a good move to give him have a friend of his own and have him be a stoner. Him being so confused and out of it this season has made me chuckle and I value Argyle as an entertaining character that also allows the audience to see a side of Jonathan we haven’t before. I could say more about the characters and my opinions but this is already long enough. Edit ⚠️Spoiler for Volume 2⚠️ I was wrong Mike wasn’t falling out of love with El, he was just repressing his feelings because he thought El was too good for him and going to leave him. And he thought it would hurt more if it happened after being open with his feelings. Ngl that was a plot twist for me. But unfortunately I can relate to that and it didn’t feel too out of nowhere. Sad for my man Will though, that’s rough for him. Anyway wanted to add that in now that I realize I said something incorrect.

I think Jonathan had some good reasons to be cheerier in season 2 and 3, for one his mom had a loving relationship with a good man, his brother was back and semingly okay and he started dating Nancy. All pretty good things for someone so used to life beibg shitty with his abusive dad, being poor and then losing his brother while his mom loses her mind trying to get him back. Season 1 was pretty stressful for everyone especially because they didn't really know what they were up against.

I think they did this to add more emotional weight to a death. if Steve dies, Nancy will be even more distant from Johnathan and will have to deal with the death of the guy she likes. if nancy dies, steve will be really sad and have to hide his mourning from Johnathan. If Johnathan dies, nancy will have to deal with the guilt of emotionally cheating on him and be distant from Steve out of guilt.

Me too, but I take that to be me, not the audience. It doesn't really get to my head though, because moments later I realize that the said character was never my thing and I never got used to them. I'm just too sentimental about character deaths because they're sad. I also know what bad/lazy writing is, like what they did with Will this season.
I hate how the show just went "oops you thought hopper was dead? You stupid idiot?" Why can't they just kill off a main character instead of adding some incredible twist showing they're magically alive
Things that bothered me in season 4: Hopper being able to not only walk but run and fight with a broken ankle. Joyce and Murray walking away from a plane crash with only minor cuts and bruises. Steve and Nancy. Are we seriously doing this again? Steve and Nancy are great characters on their own, but together? Absolutely not. It didn't work the first time and it won’t work this time, either. What happened to Nancy+Jonathan? 3 seasons of build up down the drain. Drawn-out storylines (mostly involving the Hawkins laboratory).

For real, I don't know why they are trying to bring Nancy and Steve back together. They were shown to be at their peak apart from one another. On top of that, realistically, there is no way in hell Nancy wouldn't be bored of Steve in like a year at best. I like Steve but he has a serious case of "peaked in highschool" which... good for him, but Nancy is so goal-driven and ambitious. How on earth would someone like that settle for him? It simply wouldn't work. On top of that, if the only way you can make them work is by creating a bs reason why her boyfriend can't be there it might be a sign that there is literally nothing actually pulling them together? It makes Steve look like a leftover, or a thing for her to get her bf off her mind. Not very nice for him tbh.

My issue with this and the previous season is that the characters are so spread out having their own side quests. The cast doesn't seem as united as they were in the first seasons, because they're divided into smaller groups that don't interact with each other. That means the relationships between some of characters don't really evolve. I've found that disappointing compared to the early seasons.
