    The plant is dotted smartweed. Some may know it by dotted knotweed or American willow weed. It’s a perennial herb that grows in wetland areas.

    I've been hunting public land here in Illinois for about 9 years now and while I've seen deer while out hunting, I haven't been able to harvest one. Watching your episodes gives me insight into what I can be doing to be successful on public land and maybe even use some of this new knowledge on private land I have permission to hunt a few times a year.

    That is smart weed Aaron. It's the type of plant duck hunters would keep an eye on because when it heads out and the seed fall into the water, migrating ducks allegedly really like the seed and could make a could duck hole.

So SC is completely different from your scouting scenario...thick in SC means you cant walk it hunt it or see into it...period. Cant wait to see you guys hunting again. Keep up the posts

    I just scouted a nice 1000 acre parcel today. Used the info you shared and found a nice buck bed with fresh droppings underneath a big willow out in the swamp. I must've just kicked him up. The other bed was on top of the highest hill in the area. From what I could see he could see everything north, south, and east with the west at his back. Thanks for the info guys now I just haft to play the wind right.

    Ya the ON X maps are really a game changer for me I first learned about it early on in the turkey tour and didn't think much of it. The very next week I was turkey hunting and went in after one. I was focused on the bird, not where I was going and got myself good and lost. It took me several hours to find my way out so I went home and decided to try it. Not only will I not be getting lost anymore but it let's you see an area to pick the best areas to scout, property lines and land owner information. Pretty freaking awesome.

  • @greyhunter9287
    @greyhunter92876 жыл бұрын

    Do you use the free version of ONX or do you pay for the full plan? Also, I was wondering if you had tried Huntstand? I've found that pretty good so far but just started using it. Finally, I'm wondering if you guys considered using saddles for hunting? Haven't tried them myself, but seeing how light and flexible they are it seems like they would be great for your kind of run and gun hunting when you are getting aggressive in those beds. Great video!

    Good stuff Aaron 👍🏻 I’m finding tons of Beds right now preseason scouting Will the Buck Leave his bed with the wind in his face?? I’ve always been taught to hunt with the wind in my face but I’m learning from you guys & Dan that’s not necessarily always the best.... I’m trying to get a game plan on how to setup on these beds ...Thanks...Keep Up the good content

  • @TheHuntingPublic

    @TheHuntingPublic

    6 жыл бұрын

    Michael Gammill from what we’ve seen, bucks will leave their beds in any direction regardless of wind. However they will bed with the wind at their advantage so you have to setup that way. Sometimes that means blowing your wind right past the bedding area in order to setup close enough to the bedded buck

    This time of year are their any spots that you see as off limits to walk on? Seems like you aren't too worried about bumping deer right now at all, is that the mentality we should have? If so at what point in the year do you say to stop using certain areas? Should we try to do all of our scouting in one day on an area to not stink it up as much?

The clear cut is heavy with cat tails, and I can always hear the deer walking in there, and there is a ton of trails, sometimes 5-8 different trails coming together at one point. What would your recommendations be ? see if there is one big tree in the area and setup shop ?

Also you can try and get them up higher on the tree, some people bring in a climbing stick or even a small step ladder, just something to get the cameras up above peoples easy view and reach.
