    Here's what might be a dumb question. Let's say you kayak across to that spot at the end of the video and shoot a booner. How do you get him out of there? Do you strap him to your kayak and hope to not tip over while paddling back? Or is the plan to drag him over the hilltop back to that access road?

    Im starting to think wind is such a crucial factor to finding these beds, how do you determine wind direction? Do you mostly assume prevailing wind from W to E? The examples you did showed a wind direction from N to S, just wondering if there is a wind map or something you are looking at. Awesome stuff! Can’t wait to learn more about locating buck bedding.

  • @TheHuntingPublic

    @TheHuntingPublic

    5 жыл бұрын

    We just look at how a bed is situated and then decide what wind to hunt that bedding area based off that. For example, if the deer is facing south we will assume that he is bedding there on a north wind. That will also be the wind that we strategize to hunt that bedding area on.

Looks like all my public land is going to have many more new people in it from watching these vids.. really wish they would’ve just try to show examples without showing exactly where it’s at so it makes people actually go out and work.

  • @TheHuntingPublic

    We didn't go to these spots in an effort to hide areas closer to us. In order to show folks our thought process on new ground, we needed to find new ground. We've been on most of the public land close to Albia so every year we try to scout new areas. We would've taken the details off the maps but it wasn't possible.

    Yes. A lot of times when the bedding area is trusted by one mature buck it is because the bedding location works. Once that buck dies then another is likely going to trust the same bedding area. Also, multiple mature bucks will rotate in and out of the same bedding area.

    You seriously just marked my tree at 6:15. Im not joking!!!! It's a good walk in and out, lots of racoon at night on the way out, they like to follow close behind. You're wrong on the wind also. If it's blowing from the northwest it will blow out on the northwest because it blows over the ridges and comes back up the ravine your in. The thing is to get in around 3:30-4am and wait until they come back from their nightly feeding from the East. That way your scent will be dissipated by 6-ish. Been there done that.
