How To Find TERRAIN THAT HOLDS MATURE BUCKS! Slope Angle Shading, How to find Deer on a map in hills

Спорт

In this video we show you how to use slope angle shading with OnX! We start by showing you how to pull it up and explain how to read it, then we head into the field to show you some boots on the ground scouting in relation to the slope angle shading. We show:
- How steep the different color variations are
- How to find bluffs and/or bluff gaps using OnX
- How thermals can act way differently than you are normally told when the terrain sets up a certain way
- BUCK BEDDING up and around aggressive terrain
- How the terrain is funneling deer movement and how to find that on a map
and MUCH more!

I’m a mountain bow hunter and I only use a bow! There’s some thick, steep mountains here in Harlan Ky! I try to get into deep woods with power line edge that are lined with oaks! Usually spend more time dragging the deer out than I do finding them.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this video. I didnt realize that big bucks would bed in that steep of elevation behind bluffs. THis will work great for Bankhead National Forest. Thank you for taking the time to actually go and show you proof, boots on the ground evidence that this works. I cant wait to apply it to the forest.

We drew that unit on the SOA hunt 2 years ago. We hunted it early season and never saw a deer. I hunted one evening right about where you saw that first bed. We never made it all the way to the top like yall. It was too hot to be hauling stands up that far or maybe I'm just too out of shape.

I did this and man this spot was rough to get into but it was right in the center of a yellow shade. I have a bach group of about 6 all legal 8pts. One of which is wicked tall and will definitely be at the top of the list on season open for bow.

This is great information. I'm in the north but the terrain is very similar. BTW, what pants are you guys wearing in this video and what do you all recommend for saddle hunting pants in this kind of terrain? Thanks for your time.

Great content. Your videos have helped me learn my terrain since I’m use to flat land. Not far from the area your talking about and I’ve been trying to figure out how to hunt the area since I’m new to hunting and have no “guidance” except videos. Edit: how would you hunt the bluffs? Like the last one you was talking around at the end of the video. Would you hunt the top or bottom of the bluff/bed when the deer have a great view of you from the bottom?

In those we talk with Michael Perry (mentioned in this video) who is very well known for hunting bluff gaps like what you see in this video. You can find those episodes anywhere podcasts are found!

Y’all know of any mapping software that has an option to change the colors of the shading legend? I’m bout as color blind as it gets and I’ll be honest, when you said “green and yellow” I see no differentiation… also struggle to see the differences between red and no shade (topo lines help there but still annoying) - great video fellas
