Jeffl Lynne is the soul of ELO. His careful auditioning has kept the sound alive for years.

You can keep your McCartney's, Lennon's, Jagger's and all the other so called stars. Jeff and ELO kept me going through my hospitalised youth. And Jeff is so, so underrated as a writer and performer. I grew up with his music in the 70's and 80's and still listen to it now. Remembering just how _"normal"_ the world was back then.

Used to be pretty good at footy in my youth."_ And 1 minute later, when you're lying on the ground with the kids surrounding you, asking if you're OK, you suddenly remember why you stopped playing football 30 years ago. Knee problem. 8-))...

I have always associated "Strange Magic" with the feeling I had after seeing my future wife for the for the first time...

Bring back the days the airwaves were filled the sounds of E.L.O., Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, Eagles, Little River Band and so many more! Today's music is woefully inadequate!

Funny you should mention that quote from John Lennon. Upon returning to the U. S. in late 1974 from an 8-month Med. Cruise on the USS Blakely DE1072, e had been isolated from top-40 radio for quite sometime. When we approached the East coast of the U.S. and came into reach of Hit Radio stations, someone out on deck had a radio turned up and we heard this song "Can't Get it Out of My Head". All of us thought it was a new song by Lennon (maybe even a new Beatles Reunion Song). Not to mention the 3 surviving Beatles hired Jeff to produce their 1995 single releases of one of John's long lost songs........Sorry about the long rant.

I have a tendency not listen to what the radio plays... anyway, I watched Jeff's involvement with the other bands and I always had this idea that Jeff was more than the leader of a band. As it turns out, he's probably a Catastrophist, which is cool, because I can prove the science to you, but that Jeff knows is my fun way of dealing with the knowledge. Can't prove it, but I could make you wonder. lol Anyway, I've been listen to ELO now... a lot.

Right ELO should rightfully be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. More talent in The little finger of Jeff Lynn than a lot of one hit wonders inducted.

Did this particular version of ELO re-record all the original ELO songs for a CD? If not then they do not sound the same live as they do in the studio ( If they did that is different). I like the ELO from the early 70's and on the group we all know and love. (Jeff, Richard, Kelly, Mik, Bev, Hugh and Melvyn). This version of ELO does not even have a violin. Yes Jeff and Richard are great but they do sound different it's not terrible but not as good to me.

Exactly,..."strange pain in my insides"...nicely put...I felt the same way as a kid [and now] whenever I listened [or listen] to Jeff Lynne. All his songs...but the song that always floored me the most was Last Train To London.

I have always found Jeff Lynne (ELO) to be the very best musically in concerts.

How many Saturday afternoons, when kids really played outside, with no Wi-Fi, no Facebook friends, no cell phone, listening to Casey Kasem's top 40 with all these 70s tunes competing on the charts. Was the greatest time to grow up. Now it's the greatest of memories, to stay young. 1965-?

Electric Light Orchestra is a fantastic band. What astounded me most when I saw Jeff Lynne’s ELO live in concert a couple of years ago, is the contrast between how they sound on a personal electronic device or hi fi stereo & how they sound in a large entertainment venue with a professional sound system. They sounded about 3000x as good in the large venue. This is truly a band that MUST be experienced live to be truly appreciated.

Omg. I have no idea why. These songs are in my head 24 hours today. So amazing, I literally can’t stop hearing this in my head.

It's amazing how Jeff Lynne has kept his wonderful voice...He will be 72 in a few months and i can't wait to see him in concert once more this Summer of 2019 in the USA and Canada. Long live Jeff Lynne's ELO!!!!

I was going to see him July 9th at the BTT center in Ft Lauderdale, but we are going on a cruise to Alaska, so I will miss him,,, very disappointed....was looking forward to taking my son.....

I agree 100%. I'm big ELO fan. I first heard this around March 1976. I was a United States Marine stationed at Camp LeJeune. I was in love with a local girl in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergeant

Was dedicated too the football player Trevor Francis who sadly passed away today aged 69 and played for Birmingham City where Jeff Lyne was brought up thanx gjk xx

Only ELO will make you feel the music while listening to it.

Strange Magic is positively one of the best songs in ELO's vast catalogue. Simply incredible with that melancholy guitar intro. Gives me goosebumps each time.

He is not underrated! There’s always gonna be somebody like you on every damn video who has to 2:13 squawk out nonsense… There is nobody that matters who doesn’t know how great this man is… He is not under rated at all… He is worshiped

Jeff is undoubtedly the most UNDER-RATED musicians of all time. His voice, his lyrics, putting The Wilburys together in 3 days..he is beyond awesome. Thank you Jeff, just hearing your voice is so soothing. So humble, so freaking talented..Amazing man.

@@TC-dw6wg They, Jeff, George and Bob where driving around Mulholland and Tom Petty drove past...Bob had a studio set up, he and Tom were close and then George's in with Roy pulled it together. Three days and the were at it 24/7. Egos checked at the door. It is amazing to listen to Tweeter and The Monkey Man, knowing the song and all the others came together that quickly.

DAMM! I haven’t heard this for 50 yrs- THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PIECE! ( strange magic) so romantic n a very different use of words. No wonder Jeff Lynne is the ultimate performer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The second song is one of their so many great hits. I admit on a real memory train atm. Can’t help but love ELO for their ability to provide such a wide variety of sounds all in harmony ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I went and seen them I think it was in,76,or 77, it.was My first concert in Greensboro NC, where did it go,at least I can go back and it puts a smile on me

Jeff Lynne is known to be somewhat of a perfectionist who aims to deliver stage performances that are as good as the original studio recordings. Without a doubt, Jeff is a master producer, song writer and arranger.

@USMC 73-77 , Yes, I was in Kuwait 90-92 for Desert Storm as a US Navy Corpsman with the USMC FMF, 1st Division, 1st Battalion out of Camp Pendleton, California. My original USN Duty Stations were the US Naval Hospital-Balboa, San Diego, CA and SUBTRAFAC at Point Loma, CA.

This is such a great music video plus I have fallen in love with the back up singer lady. The way she moves is pretty special.

That's not so good news. Excellent live concerts are better than studio outputs, think Supertramp, Genesis etc. So maybe that's a bit the problem with this concert: although its sounding very nice, it doesn't take any risks, adds no new solo's, the spaceship never encounters a clear air turbulence and everyone on stage looks so ridiculously handsome. In the end, it all starts to look and sound a bit too much sanitized, like a too well kept lawn, and misses some spontaneity. Perfection has a boring edge in the end.

​@@Retroscoop I saw them when this album came out in Oakland Coliseum Arena and on a scale of 1 -10 the volume was set at 591. We wadded up napkins and plugged our ears and then we could recognize what song they were performing. It was really loud, even though I like loud music, it was beyond that of jet fighter at take off. We loved the show once we adjusted the volume.

I swear they sound better than the studio versions....!!!!!! This is 2023 and I've been listening to ELO live for two months straight now. . I turned 68 this year so I didn't miss much growing up. I even saw them live in Mobile Ala when Telephone Line was climbing the charts. All I truly remember is the stage lights and knowing I just experienced the best group in my lifetime. Too bad I was so stoned it robbed me of precious memories . Ugh'' live and learn they say. They're so right.

Wow man, after all these years Mr. Lynne's voice is still as Smooth as Silk..

anofi berry your welcome. I'd do it again. My whole family was US Army, from World War Two, The Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, the War on Terrorism. I have cousins who were in the Army and younger cousins, nephews all in the Army. Im the only Marine on both sides of my family. When we have family reunions they give me down the road. I tell them Im a Marine at 62 yrs old and I can take it. So proud to have served our country. Semper Fi.

Man, these songs take me back. What a great time to grow up with bands like ELO.

What can I say to add to all of these Comments from other people. I am simply flabbergasted at the talents of ELO and especially of the musical genius Jeff Lynne. Fantastic songwriter, incredible producer, words seem inadequate to try to describe what he has accomplished with his music and his unbelievable Band The Electric Light Orchestra. They are amazing! I’m glad that we were lucky enough to experience their music in our lives!

Amazing. Rosie is far sexier than JLO, Beyonce or any of today's "stars." Gorgeous!

Because it's "effortless," she doesn't have to act like a 'ho to be sexy, it just comes naturally.

Absolutely should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

And besides being super super talent and a Birmingham City FC fan (Mr Blue Sky) hes the most modest modest of lots of people and performers

ELO was definitive yet totally unlike anything else going on at the time ...or since. Super compositions and performance.

He wrote , produced and even played the instruments in so many of his songs. He really is an amazing artist.
