Guys..just so you all know...our front winch was broken 🤕 We have had a lot of comments suggesting we use some sort of land anchor to winch off of. This was impossible for us at the time because, as we said, our winch was busted!! Thanks for all the comments though guys! We're loving hearing from you all!!

amazing persistance, but,its desperation, it has to be done.no fun, at all.. winching the van, id of tried skidding the tow bar around, pivot it, tie a track to the tow bar,. im not a fan of towing trailers , anywhere, not even for work.. theres lots of self contained 4x4 trucks to choose from. or second hand. mate bought an old army acco, when they were changing to unimogs..idea to fit caravan on back, job done.. ended up with an international scout. we left s.a. to karumba. me in a 78 f100 4x4. back in 82.. karumba to burketown is interesting. hot springs, old steem engine, to pump the water. excellent fishing, concrete warf at burketown. nothing there, 2nd ww history. theres salt pans, you might....like.....again, amazing effort. 👍🦘🌏

You can use a tow rope too bro , if winch isn’t working you can bury the spare and double wrap the rope aroundt tyre so it pinches on itself and then as the wheel turns it pulls you toward the spare wheel, you do have to get the wheel of the ground to wrap the rope around tho so it can be a bit of a drag ,

Based on where you go and what you are driving, I would suggest some pneumatic lift bags. We had them when I was a firefighter for rescue work. They are very thin, have a large surface area, can conform to the shape of the object being lifted, are highly puncture resistant, and can lift a tremendous amount of weight with just compressed air. Your situation is obviously too soft for a conventional jack. The surface area of the lift bags overcomes this, and because they are thin, you only need a cm or two to get it under the vehicle. Once lifted, you can place your mats under the tire instead of trying to drive on to them

I’ve just discovered you guys and having watched this video I have to say that you are both awesome people. The relationship you have with each-other is incredible. There are very few people that have the ability to stay that calm, retain their sense of humour, support each-other and to talk so nicely to each-other in the face of adversity. Good luck with the repairs, looking forward to following you on your adventures.

What a team effort. First time viewer of your channel and I got to say that I love how you own your mistakes but then just figure it all out calm as F$%k and just get the job done all on your own together. That was a massive effort, no front winch, no 4Wd, just a shit load of digging and some max tracks. I don't think a lot of people know what a feat that was given the size of your rig. Total respect to you both.

Initially I watched this video because I’m currently building up a truck to travel around Australia and hopefully the word at some point. The initial draw to the video was, the truck, the travel and the situation of getting bogged as ive definitely been in this situation before.
The longer the video went on I completely started to ignore all these elements and became hype focused on the relationship you guys all share, initially I was stunned at how incredible Kyla kept so level headed and in control of absolutely everything with very little stress and a hugely immense amount of support and absolutely no intention blame games unless in a joke or banter manner. I was Incredibly impressed with Kyla, what an incredible human with an amazing outlook on every situation in life, but then i realised... it was nothing to do with either of you individually and just an insanely compatible relationship where you both compliment each other in every possible aspect. The care, support, strengths, share of responsibility, love and commitment to each other and the shared dream is honestly one of the most eye opening and beautiful things ive seen in a long time. Im 26, want to travel the world in a truck and sure as anything want to find a love and a bond like the one your family shares, I’m sure theres hard times, nothings ever perfect. I just wanted to comment and let you know that seeing this type of love gave me an extraordinary motivation to go out into the world and take every opportunity to meet and connect with people until I discover a connection like the one you guys share. Literally speechless watching all of you interact together in the most beautifully kind, stunning and supportive and understanding manner. Amazing.

Use the rear winch, bury the spare tire behind the caravan as an anchor point, use a snatch block to move the caravan back away from the Isuzu. Now you've got room to use the rear winch and anchor to ease the Isuzu back out of the bog. :)

There isn't a part of the outback where you can allow yourself to forget what you're doing and lose concentration, especially when you have a wife and three kids in tow, so for that you did deserve your self ass kicking. But having said that I was impressed by your work ethic and calmness at getting yourselves back out again, well done. I managed to break my rear hub studs towing a small camper trailer across the Simpson a while back and was looking at 3 to 4 weeks before a friend drove across from Melbourne to help me get out. I ended up paying Mt Dare $2500 (RACQ paid me back as part of my roadside recovery plan though :) ) to come out and recover me after a few days instead even though I still had 3 or 4 weeks worth of water and food with me.

@@thecartwrights snapped right on full lock. That is a bit of a poor design and would be on your mind every time it gets sticky. Hopefully isuzu see your vid and fix the underlying issue because when you think of it it, it wasn't really hard going for it in that there was plenty of slip going on (lowering the actual stress you could put on it). The one in fraiser happened in nice soft slippery sand but at full lock. Its not like it was rock crawling with deflated tyres where there would be a lot more stress introduced. My thought is someone (isuzu mgmt) just decided to cut the turning circle by 2ft and never thought about the odd angled stress in the UNI joint.

Mistakes happen, but good work getting out!. Good to see you two in high spirits about that mess and keeping a calm head. Definitely some valuable lessons learned here. I've busted u joints and knuckles before putting power to a steer axle at full lock because I had no other choice. Then it's a worse situation with three, or even worse, two wheel drive. One tip for getting out of slick spots is to power brake. Don't mess with a handbrake. Foot on the brake, foot on the throttle, and let off the foot brake. Maybe you guys tried it, but a lot of people don't know about that little trick. It's gotten me out of more than a few slick situations in passenger vehicles and loaded semis at 105,000 pounds (about 48,000 kg).

Great work team to keep it all together in that situation! What an epic life lesson and to keep filming was impressive. I think filming for KZread would have been a very low priority if we were in that situation! I think I would have tried burying the spare wheel with a strap attached and then hooking the winch up. Did the truck break a CV as you thought? Looking forward to your next epic life lesson :).

Hey mate. Thank you Burying a spare wheel would have been my first option, if my front winch wasn’t broken at the time. It really was a series of rookie and unfortunate events that led to my undoing 🤕🤕 Yeah front right CV exploded

So proud of you both. How you kept mentioning prayer is an answer to prayer. Dad you the man taking responsibility for your decisions and how mum showed her love for you and your children. Your family relationship is so solid. Do what you can and trust God to look after you. Your are always in our prayers. - Future Isuzu NPS 75/155 + Caravan grey nomads.
