Great video. I had the exact same problem and the part about taking the entire unit down first was especially helpful. Thanks.

I want to personally thank you for taking the time to make this video. It was an exact fix for my vent-a-hood problem. I also had no clue the outside vent latched open & closed like that, and it has been closed since 2015 when I purchased my trailer new! No wonder we set off our inside smoke alarm almost every time we've been camping! Thanks again...

Thank you SO MUCH for your video. It was exactly, step-for-step, what I needed to do for our fan which had suddenly stopped. We happen to be at a campground, so ordering fuses wasn't an option and after about 20 area phone calls located the only 2 Thermal cut-off fuses around. With your directions, it took less time to do the job than it did to drive to the supply store. I never bothered to check the fuse with a meter and just assumed replacing the fuse would do the trick. It did. I also never knew the flap was clamped down outside, and it is now on our to-do list for set up and break down. The clamps were so tight, I had to use a butter knife to wedge them off. The hood removal and fuse replacement was mostly easy-peasy. The hardest part was holding up the hood to put the screws back in as I was the only one at the camper today and didn't want to wait for my husband to return to do the job. We have a 2016 Fleetwood Flagstaff 27RLWS and bought it used last fall, 2019. Again, thank you! Excellent quality, professional video.

Thank you for this very informative video. It was exactly what I needed to fix my fan! The fan in my 2019 Sonic lite has never worked since I bought the unit. It was only a year old but out of warranty as I purchased it from the original owner. There was nothing in the owners manual about that outside flap, which was stuck shut, nor was there any troubleshooting steps for the fan. Your video took me thru step by step and it now works. I just ordered the fuses with your link without testing anything bcuz I don't have one of those tools and my unit looked exactly like yours. So fingers crossed I ordered up the fuses, the crimper tool and a set of those "butt plugs" and it did the trick.

Perfect video! Thanks for the solution to the what’s mostly wrong with ours! You’re right...hate to drop off trailer for warranty work on such a thing! My wife loves her hot tea kettle but she lets it whistle steam for much to long. I bet that’s what melted the thermal fuse!!

Thanks for the information. Great source to get me started on my Jayco fan motor (fuse shows short in ohms). No problem picking up a replacement- look carefully and you will see a part number. Best way to approach this job- for my purposes was to drop the hood assembly and just cut the two wires. Easy peasy- wire nut going back. Allows you to take the hood to the desk to work on. Another issue I have and you do not is the two wires (black and white) coming from the fan motor and going into the round hole (in the housing) are almost burnt through. I will add electrical tape for added insulation.Oh yeah- by the way- in attempting to get the hood clean of stove grease I cut the S@#T out of my finger- the sheet metal is like a knife. Be careful. Thanks.

Thanks. This gives me hope I might be able to fix mine. I’ve had a table fan pointed towards the window for exhaust- a real fix would be better! Thanks for the video.

Nice catch on the thermal fuse! Trailer company should have explained about the vent flap latch!

This fuse looks very similar to the fuse that goes bad inside many InstaPot cookers. I think the InstaPot ones are around 100c too.

Thanks for this video. We have the exact same rig you do and have had it since 2016 have over 25,000 miles on it and love it but last month the fan stopped working. Before a three week trip out to Glacier Natioanl Park in two weeks, I was going to replace the motor but never considered there was a fus in there. I will have to check that out. Thanks so much.

Do you by chance have the link for the motor. I figure if I'm going to have this disassembled, I don't want to find it was the motor and then having to put it together and then disassemble it. Your help is greatly appreciated. By the way, our rig is a Flagstaff with the old style front window but other than that both rigs seem the same.

It doesn't have anything to do with a fire. It is taped securely to the motor for a reason. If the motor gets too hot the fuse blows so the motor doesn't fail. The exhaust fan wouldn't "fan" a fire. In fact it would create a lower pressure area and direct flames into the hood as it's designed. As far as the motor goes you have the crappy one. Vent manufactures sell these too good to be true cheap vents and that's the motor they get. It's weak, expensive, and fails often. The d-shaft motor you are talking about is about 3 times as big and 1/3 the cost. If you can modify your current vent to accept this motor I suggest doing so and ordering a suitable d-shaft fan for it. You will also need bigger screws if the motor didn't come with them. I was able to find suitable screws in an electronic device headed for the garbage. Fine thread computer assembly screws might work. It will be cheaper, easier to find parts,, move more air, and last longer. Unfortunately this vent is probably a tell tail of many other cheap components in your RV. I know all about it. I have the same crappy motor in my kitchen and bathroom vents.
