Stossel: Jordan Peterson vs. “Social Justice Warriors”

Many leftists hate Jordan Peterson, a Canadian psychologist and professor at the University of Toronto.

---------
Leftists began to hate Peterson after he said he'd disobey a proposed Canadian law that would force Canadians to call anyone who doesn't want to be called "he or she" something else, like "ze" or "xe."
When Peterson said he'd refuse to obey, angry students shouted Peterson down, blowing air horns and screaming to make sure others couldn't hear.
Peterson defends his position to John Stossel: "I don't care what people want to be called. That's fine, but that doesn't mean I should be compelled by law to call them that."
It's not just students who slam Peterson. In one TV interview, Peterson stayed calm while the host tried to put words in his mouth.
"You are saying that women aren't intelligent enough to run these top companies....You don't believe in equal pay," Cathy Newman, the reporter at Britain's Channel 4 News, insisted.
"No, I'm not saying that at all," Peterson responded. He hadn't said that. What he had said, is that natural differences explain most of the gender wage gap.
As an example, Peterson cites studies that find, in wealthy countries that focus most on equality, like Sweden, even fewer women major in science and math. Instead they pick fields that deal with people, like teaching, and men tend more toward technical fields.
Peterson says this shows that when men and women have the most freedom to decide what they do, they pick fields that line up with their natural biological interests.
That idea infuriates leftists. "It should infuriate them," Peterson tells Stossel. "Because I'm going right at the heart of the radical leftist doctrine."
That doctrine is social justice, the idea that all groups should have equal outcomes; that there should be just as many female CEOs, scientists, and computer programmers, because men and women are essentially the same. If outcomes differ, it must be sexism.
Peterson says that the focus on group equality is a spinoff of Marxism. That after Marxism failed spectacularly in the economic realm, Marxists applied their way of thinking to issues like the difference between men and women.
"We've got a hundred million corpses stacked up to demonstrate" the failure of Marxism, says Peterson. And the new Marxism-derived focus on group equality won't end any better.
Peterson calls for the opposite of Marxism-a focus on the individual.
He says people should stick with "the principles that govern the West; capitalist principles. The free market principles." With those principles "we do better than any place has ever done."
The views expressed in this video are solely those of John Stossel, his independent production company, Stossel Productions, and the people he interviews. The claims and opinions set forth in the video and accompanying text are not necessarily those of Reason.

These are descendants of the very people who were demanding free speech on college campuses back in the late 1960s. Now that they are running academia, they and their acolytes think nothing of depriving others of free speech. And it's even worse. They have crafted a modern day Inquisition, where they demand unwavering acceptance of their dogma and orthodoxy on pain of cancellation (they would just as soon burn heretics at the stake with the same enthusiasm as their 15th and 16th century counterparts, but so far the law won't let them.)

Survival of the Ideas. Because if your idea can't survive in the wilderness on its own, its not worth spreading it. It will most likely kill itself, like socialism did many times in history. Edit: I'm tired, you know how the saying goes...

  • @SilverLining1

    @SilverLining1

@@googleuser9383 I strongly believe that ideas behave exactly according to evolutionary laws. However, one consequence of this assertion is that some ideas can act as diseases: quickly contracted, hard to fight, and spread quickly and far. Social justice, from its name and presumed motive alone, achieves all three, since it's easy to push via goodwill and hard to fight because you'll get called a nazi. Of course, its also a parasite on well-established societies and kills its host. Point being, survival of the fittest doesn't always create the strongest creatures, or in this case ideas. If you focus on the societies that get hijacked by socialism, you could say that, because they were weak, their destruction was fair or inevitable. But like with actual evolution, it will take a lot of time and casualties before you find the breed that's resistant. I certainly don't want Western civilization to fall for such a trivial reason as assuming the socialists would fail on their own.

Zarkow Ok, I'll do your homework for you, but just this once. I will never use words I hate, like the trendy and artificially constructed words "zhe" and "zher." These words are at the vanguard of a post-modern, radical leftist ideology that I detest, and which is, in my professional opinion, frighteningly similar to the Marxist doctrines that killed at least 100 million people in the 20th century. I have been studying authoritarianism on the right and the left for 35 years. I wrote a book, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief, on the topic, which explores how ideologies hijack language and belief. As a result of my studies, I have come to believe that Marxism is a murderous ideology. I believe its practitioners in modern universities should be ashamed of themselves for continuing to promote such vicious, untenable and anti-human ideas, and for indoctrinating their students with these beliefs. I am therefore not going to mouth Marxist words. That would make me a puppet of the radical left, and that is not going to happen. Period. --Jordan Peterson National Post Nov. 21, 2016 You're welcome, Zarkow.

He has multiple times said that in a one-on-one with someone that talks (not shouts) to him, he would use the term the person liked to hear, same as he would use their name/nick-name. But he would do it then because he would do it out of respect for them being decent people, and would never do it automatically because a law tries to dictate it. Great line by Peterson "[Stalin was a bad individual], so was Mao, so was Pol Pot, the thing is it was tried everywhere, and the end consequence was always the same. I've heard this all, many many times, 'that wasn't real communism.' You know what that means? That means that if I would've been the benevolent dictator in the place of Stalin, then I would've brought in the utopia. There isn't a more narcissistic and toxic and inexcusable statement that you can possibly make."

I recently read an interview with Professor Jordon Peterson in the London Times magazine supplement and I had no idea of the mental anguish he suffers and the problems he has had and still does with medication and how his family saved him, this added to his brave stance on the blind ignorance of how people judge his work without actually understanding what he is saying or writing has made me respect Jordon even more, he really is a remarkable person, I wish him all the best, we live in times when truth is not welcome, very similar to the Nazi and Communist doctrine of preventing free speech and free thinking

@Minimalism Did Jordan Peterson share his medical information with you, personally? The man absolutely WRECKS the "woke" mob and doesn't back down. He's very well spoken and seems to carefully measure every word he utters so each one has maximum impact. The Alt-Left social supremacists can't stand him one bit. If the man happens to be prescribed benzodiazepines, for whatever reasons, that's his business.

He's not simply intellectually intelligent; he's emotionally intelligent. That makes him a formidable bastion for interviewers and protesters alike. Read this quote, and keep in mind that males are given to physical violence, where females are given to social violence. "When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system’s game. The establishment will irritate you - pull your beard, flick your face - to make you fight. Because once they’ve got you violent, then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don’t know how to handle is non-violence and humor." -John Lennon
