As some of the others already mentioned, Jackie didn't use wires for his jumps or Parkour stuff in his movies from the 1970s to like 1996 when he went to America. There weren't many or no safety measures in the old Hong Kong days ("if you've got the guts, you do it" or "rolling, action, jump, cut, hospital"). That's one reason no one wanted to insure him. The whole stunt team used wires in fight scenes though when they wanted to amplify the impact of a punch or kick. It wasn't Wire-Fu like in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or like Jet Li did sometimes, it was just to spice up an otherwise grounded fight.

depended where they were shooting and the stunt. Where he was defying death and filming in the U.S. - wires were generally used, although in the 90's they'd already mastered removing the wires from the shot with film. If they didn't use "safety" equipment, they didn't get underwriting for their insurance. I imagine the same may have been true in many European Countries where he shot and Australia. But Jackie defied death frequently in many of his films. But he's not totally deranged.

@@johnnytdufc That's why he says in Jackie's older films. In Hong Kong, they did not have the same health insurance as American Hollywood. If I recall correctly, Jackie had to make his own insurance company in the USA to fund his stunts. edit: from an article: "No insurance company will underwrite Chan's productions, in which he performs all his own stunts. After a number of stuntmen were injured during the making of Police Story, the star formed the Jackie Chan Stuntmen Association, training the stuntmen personally and paying for their medical bills out of his own pocket."

"traceur" doesn't translate to bullet. In the context of doing parkour I assume they were using the verb "tracer" in a familiar sense, then it can be translated as going fast / getting a move on, and "traceur" would then be the people doing that action.

Thanks Storror for the rare sit down video, it was great. I love your videos, although I have not watched the last few. Hoping to get back into watching them!! I am kind of wondering how many people watch Corridor Crew and watched their episode reacting to Jacki Chan’s movies, scenes, stunts etc.

Tracers is actually pretty good and accurate. Storror just took a few scenes out of context or rather snippets of scenes. There are some very good chase and parkour scenes in it. Taylor Lautner's character learns parkour in this film as well so the awkward scenes are him training like for the first time. It's at least 7 out of 10. The crime and bloodshed was unnecessary in that movie. The parkour was legit.

District B13 was my facilitator into parkour. All of the shirtless scene with David were real a BTS e plains that he insisted on being shirtless to prove that there were no wires or rig. The only cgi was the ground on the rope dive. They had massive mattresses for the stunt men who were just jumping through.

Here's a video idea: Parkour relay (without batons of course). You could go into 2 teams in a few spots (one could even be water challenges). There'll be an element of strategy where the teams will have to work out which member is better suited at a challenge to complete the relay the fastest. PS: I think Drew arrived last

Not purely related and not a film but to this day, one "documentary" that still blow my mind every time I watch it, is this old interview from a French tv channel of David Belle and Sebastien Foucan, The confidence and the power they had was crazy at that time. At 2:40 Foucan jump so easily what's look like a 2+m barrier. and Belle take massive drops like it's nothing the whole video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hIJ4y6utfNbYpdo.html

Jackie is the OG. Most of what he did was real, especially back in the day. It's going a bit far to call it parkour, but his skill is not to be questioned. The wire work came later, and Jackie's wire work was him adapting to the times, rather than needing to "fake" it.
