It's a shame but probably the right decision, especially if you can get the fifty bucks ! I've only fairly recently got rid of my massive 36" flatscreen Toshiba CRT - fantastic picture, but took up half the lounge - it was about 2ft deep and weighed 90kg (excluding stand) it also had a custom stand with a heavy rear counter-balance so it couldn't fall forward and flatten a child !

Wow, that TV sounds like a monster Andy!! It would totally flatten an adult as well! 😲😱

The reason CRTs are good for retro gaming is as simple as it's what retro games were designed for. In a bit more detail, the fuzziness of CRTs makes pixelated old games look better. It lets the colors blend a little like they were supposed to. It's like how statues that were designed to go on top of tall buildings often look ugly and exaggerated up close. New TVs show details that weren't meant to be seen clearly.

My initial thought when you said it was made in England, along with the changed plug made me think someone brought it with them when they moved from the UK. Seeing those spare components was a bit of a red flag. I did find someone on a forum asking what those 13 red flashes mean, beyond V protection, which he had already found out. But no one ever answered his question as to what V protection meant - and he asked that in 2013. Selling it as is, is probably the way to go.

Those were my thoughts too. Another indicator to me was that the only sockets on the back were SCART which was far more popular in the UK than here.

Doesnt look like a model sold in Australia. British TVs only receive UHF Channels and have a different sound IF frequency. I think its 6mhz instead of 5.5. That is what the parts under the sticky tape are. I converted a couple for people by changing the sound filter and tweaking things a bit, but you could only get VHF TV channels via a VCR.

Only guessing, but V protection could be over-voltage on the HV side (which I think can lead to x-ray emissions), or maybe related to the vertical deflection out of spec.

My philosophy is once a tube is scrapped. It's gone forever because they ain't making any more. So I try and pass it on to someone else who can use it. Even if I'm giving it away. As a CRT enthusiast I would always say that taking an intact tube to the recycling centre is not an option.

I've never even seen a Trinitron that size with RGB in Australia. I feel like someone's brought it from the UK with them when they moved. Not sure why the guy that fixed or modified it left the components under the tape but maybe it was a modification and they were left there incase it was to be reversed. It might go after a hose washing and cleaning all the board connectors. Also those empty clips for the high voltage line is just a generic part used in all the sets so you can route the cable where you want depending on the set. Nothing is missing.

Thanks mate! Yeah, the general consensus is that it has come from the UK hence the plug replacement 👍

A lot of crt's had fuses, if there isnt, pass. I'm still watching a 29 inch samsung--the back of it is huge. And you cant beat their colour. The samsung makes that sony look like a portable,ha.

With a CRT in britain at the moment unless it had digital source it would be no use at all , UK analogue channels are gone switched off

No one uses them for TV. Just computer monitors and for arcade games. Especially these RGB ones. You can't use modern TVs for those things.. Well.. not unless you want your eyes to bleed from the terrible
