Stopped by Park Ranger! No More Metal Detecting!!

Ойын-сауық

Hey guys, in today's video I head out to do some beach detecting. I was only hunting for about 30 minutes before I got snagged by the park ranger. She told me I wasn't allowed to metal detect anymore! Enjoy!

    Wow, super windy - i suffered from the same problem these past couple of weeks - a windscreen for the GoPro mic is worth it's weight in gold. FYI, This one hurt my ears. ;) AND, yes, there are always problems detecting at state parks down here as well. Gotta be careful. Picking up the glass and nails helped prevent folks from heading to the emergency room. Here's a tip for the fish hooks (which I find quite often)... keep a couple of wine bottle corks in your finds bag, and when you get hooks, just poke them into the cork. Helps a ton and not very large. Sorry, I'm not gonna make the hunt 10 this year, but it is an AWESOME cause!!! Smiles, and keep up the hunts!

    What I love is they don’t want us to dig but kids can literally dig a hole you could bury someone in and leave it, no problem!. Sadly, people leaving holes everywhere and leaving them in the woods relic hunting, landowners get upset and don’t blame the. QUESTION; why would you ever use a pulse detector in Florida, no minerals and multi-frequency goes super deep with none of the digging iron issues?

    It has been a long time since I have seen you post a video, good to see you again. Find it interesting that you can't dig out in the water since in the state of Florida, and navigable water does not belong to anyone. Also like someone else said, you can't dig a hole, yet they are going to be disturbing a large area to built a complex and maybe cover many burial places of First Nations Peoples. I wonder if they will allow a study site to be gridded off before doing that or if the dollars gained will negate all of that? I also live in Florida, but in the North Central part and unfortunatly they would rather pave over history than let it be studied or enjoyed, but that is a university town for you. Sorry for the rant, it is good to see you back.

    Well, that kind of stinks getting booted from that one park. I have the utmost respect for hallowed burial grounds however, since detecting was previously okay and a possible resort coming in, this sounds more political than anything. To be honest, I'm surprised it's okay to detect at that park in Tarpon Springs as well. All of the parks (state, local and federal) are prohibited here. Unfortunately, a few "Bad detectorist" ruin it for everybody by leaving holes everywhere and not removing trash. So disrespectful and totally unnecessary. Great video! Always a pleasure! Blessings!

    Yea, what they told you is utter BS. It's a public beach and their reason is BS. You aren't doing anything, it's just someone with the park service does like metal detecting, so in order to satisfy their attitude towards it they take it out on the public. I would email the park service supervisor and demand they change the rule. They build a resort and destroy everything but want allowing detecting.

    Always seems odd to me that they prevent detectorists from digging in the beach sand. I have seen way bigger holes and messes left by beach goers. I guess it's just easier for them to blanket ban from the entire park than to say sand ok, grass not ok.

    More like the Governor overrules detectorist, DeSantis passed several laws targeting MD'ing to preserve his cronies treasure hunting schemes. And the state is so afraid someone is going to find something valuable and the state won't get it's cut.

  • @effenfish661
    @effenfish6613 ай бұрын

    my state prohibits detecting in state parks to preserve relics. each county has its own rules, same with cities and towns. detecting cuts is a good strategy, especially if heavier objects like rocks and shells are there.

    There are some Indian land and possible burial grounds near Montgomery Alabama. Some detectorists were hunting outside the area that they thought may have been tribal land. One detector stumbled upon a nice bracelet. As they went to get the bracelet up, it was attached to an arm. I am sure no one wants to disturb a burial ground. Glad there are many places to find those valuable beer tops etc. Glad the ranger was nice (I suspect she was based on your telling of the story). You did right, sometimes things are just not worth the argument that you eventually lose anyways

    Its sad you can't detect there but let's keep in mind that the Ranger didn't make the rule. A lot of parks in my area are the same unfortunately. We get permission during the off season to do the beaches looking for just what you said, metal etc that can affect the beach goers. The real issue is a lot of metal detectors are crappy at covering their holes etc.
