Stop using the RACE Writing Formula with your middle school students. While it is effective for teaching them how to write initially, it doesn’t serve them when moving beyond that. We must be able to teach our middle school students more advanced writing instruction. This is where our EBW approach comes into play. It takes basic principles such as citing and explaining and then expands on it so students can apply it to text dependent essays.
