Sanding using sandpaper or wet & dry which has previously been folded if you sand over the fold line will not sand flat

My squeaking problems are caused by my fingers not covering holes properly. I will check my instrument as well though as it is quite old, and so there may be some keys that don't close properly, so I will try the suck test as you demonstrated. I do use a neck strap and pull it up quite high. I have very small hands, and covering the holes with my fingers is something that I have struggled with for a very long time. Trying to find a solution, but is there one!!!!! I try to curve my fingers over the keys, so very frustrating when I still get squeaks, and it's worse when I cross the break. Not so bad in the lower register. I've just bought a new mouth piece and ligature so hopefully they will help too. I'm using a new reed, so it's definitely not that, as the reed is fine with no cracks or splits. I always wet the reed before I start playing. Trying to do everything right!! Anyway thank you for your extremely helpful video, and I will try what you have suggested.

After sanding lower reed's part, It pops noticeably later in suck test. Does It play/feel better after that? If a reed pops earlier in suck test, will play less good than a reed which pops later? Or that test applies to only less likely to squeak? It seemed like you also sand the back of the upper reed's part, right?

It responds far better when it gets a good seal. I don’t sand the tip, that would change the resistance of the reed quite a bit.

I hear you on that. I don’t have a specific remedy for that except to take a break. I hope that when tired, the air/embouchure/jaw portion can provide insight as to what is going awry when you get tired. :)

Greetings Jay! I just received a Forbes Debut Bb mouthpiece but when I play a simple scale I get a shrill continuous chirping sound through the scale! Any idea on what’s going on? Thanks again!🙏

That’s not good! I would first change my reed. Second, make sure the mouthpiece seals by doing the “suck test”. I would also think experimenting with a different strength reed may help get info. What strength reed are you playing, what mouthpiece were you using before?

Thanks Jay I play a M13 Lyre and a Yamaha 4C with a Bonade ligature using 2,3 and 4 strength reeds that I’m breaking in and balancing! All of the reeds work well with my setup and no shrill chirpy sound! I received the debut today so maybe it needs to settle in. It is used but appears to be in excellent condition. Thanks again! Oh I will try the suck test and let you know.
