You hit the nail on the head here. I’m in my third decade in this business as a helicopter and fixed wing camera op. My people go to enormous expense to put an aerial on the show and usually only a few seconds at a time. I always try to offer up some sexy stuff, but it’s usually the meat and potatoes shots that you see at home or on screen. Coming back from break or scene change with my shot calibrates the viewers head as to where we are and then 1-2-3 cut to another camera on play action or talent. It’s an entire production not just about how cool the aerial guy is. Seriously, this is my profession, I’m at the top of it and you’d think I’d champion it more and more. But even I’m sick of too much aerial, or should I say the over use of the aerial asset. An aerial shot can have huge impact if used correctly and sparingly. But if the shot goes on too long, it’s like a joke that takes too long to tell. By the time you get to the punchline there’s not as much payoff. Nice work Mr. D!

Well said! Thank you for sharing
Nice Jeven! I totally agree...I'm a strong believer in incorporating a few drone shots along side ground shots to give perspective. Aerial only videos tend to get boring real quick.
Telling a story is what it’s all about. Great video. Thank for making this Jeven!
Been following your channel since I got my first drone a while back. By far one of the best! I enjoy your no nonsense approach, all content, no fluff. Am also enjoying the FCPX class on Skillshare. Keep the content coming. Thanks man.
Hey Jeven, another great video, thank you. What do you do when you are solo and want to get an in-action shot of you in it (on your bike for example) - I am a new drone flyer and have been taught to keep it in visual line of sight at all times. I am in a real conflict of what I would like to capture vs what I have been taught. Thank you 🙏🏼
Nice bro..your are my favorite youtuber🙂
Thanks for all these tips! Your videos are always so useful!
I bought a Mini 2 on Black Friday as a result of seeing you use one on your channel. I love flying it and am trying to fly it a lot just anywhere to gain confidence with it, but I totally agree a drone shot with no subject is boring. Great video.
Great video! Thank you for sharing your experience, it is very helpful for me.
We love ya Ryan. Keep the variables coming!
The traveling for new and different shots is a great tip!
Really good tips! I appreciate the reminder to think about the story being told, and how the drone footage fits in with the story. Makes sense!
Thanks for the tips, Jeven! Very helpful👍
I recently discover your channel. I am sure you had helped many people to improve their skills. My respect for you. Best wishes from Argentina
Great advice! Thanks for sharing. Your drone footage is amazing!
Love the content. Cheers!
Yet another great vid Jeven! Thank you for all you do and thank you for your leadership! You have taught me so much brother! Forever grateful
I personally want to thank you. I definitely needed this because im working hard to niche down into drones and rc car content this year...
Excellent video. Thanks
Awesome work Jeven
Thanks for this tips
This is a great video. Thank you for all these tips. I have shot events and landscapes but now I see having a plan and shooting for the edit like I do with my camera is what I am going to incorporate it. Thank you Jeven
Thanks for sharing this, I hope to put into practise some of these tips for my videos.😊
Thank you. Good info.
Great tips Jeven! thanks for sharing
Your drone tips on your channel totally helped me in making drone shots especially like me new to drone photography. Thanks
Nice tips bro... Surely motivating
Thank you! Just subbed 👌🏽

BIG Thank You Jeven for these info... A very good tips for newbie like me... 🤝🏼👍🏼
Thanks mate!
Another great video full of information.
Javen thanks for your great content.
"shoot with a purpose" great advice , i need to take that to heart
Very good tips. Already applied some of it my footage. Slowly improving.
Hey Jeven.. just wanted to say thanks for all the info your putting up on your channel. I have seen a lot of your you tube video and I find them so educational to learn from. I have always been into drone from a far but never going into them until now as i used to do a lot of road cycling etc. My wife got me a DJI mini 2 . I’m want to start up my own you tube channel and work my way up . Which I seen your video on . 👍 my question is it better to edit on the Mac mini as I’m saving up for one . As the funds are low for the mo ? Thanks again. Hope all is well
All really good points. Thanks. Can you do a video on computer graphics and software needed to edit?
Jeven I'm a lifelong landscape photographer; I like to think i'm pretty good; I have had my first drone for 2 months and man its not EASY... Great videos keep em coming and best wishes from Wales here in the UK.

Yeah, for me some movements are to hard to do, but then I realized that simple movements can make the final video really good. It just depends on the creativy we have to make the perfect shot.
Great video!
Love your content bro
Good as always Jeven!
I'm so glad that I've discovered Your channel :) so much great advice here ! Thank You Jeven . I only wish I've discovered it earlier.
Good info like always. Thanks. From Cape Town, South Africa.
Why do I watch you, this video and your channel? One is because I enjoy you because you are like-able and have good content but in addition to that, your videos are helpful to me as a content creator. I get the enjoyment and learn. For that, thank you!
I used to just film everything and it made the edit so long, now for my hiking films I've been incredibly strategic with what I'm shooting which has drastically sped up my productions.
Jeven , great tips. That is one thing I think about, make it interesting. Appreciate the advice.
Appreciate you Jeven!
Thank you Jeven another great video and very useful & knowledgeable tips. Cheers from Down Under 🇦🇺👍💥
Thank you 🤟🏼😎
Good advice. Without a purpose, drone shots are simply great for establishing shots.
Great Tips jeven . Too many do landscape aerial shots of landscape through out the whole video. I agree🤙🏻

And fly "too high" not giving some sense of space and distances.
THANKS BRO
Nice tips bro 👍
Nice. Question please. How did you mount the controller to your handlebars please? Thanks
Been watching some of your videos and they are so informative. Thank you. Question please, is it possible that drone footage can be played on a large scale screen with sharp images? Approx 10x20 Or will it be pretty blurry? Looking to start a business and need a few details worked out and possibly an experienced drone flyer. Getting my ducks in a row for this project. Thanks again
Very nice succinct stage one video. Something we all need to be reminded of so we don’t get into bad habits. Good one .. 😊
Great , thanks for explaining ... 💡 Im thinking to buy "some dron" , this information helps a lot.
Great advice. I'm always trying to think of a new ways to give a perspective to my videos. Problem is they usually include fast moving subjects
Love how this was uploaded right before i was about to go aimlessly fly
What mount was that on the bike for the controller ?
What is that mount your using on the bike’s handlebars for the drone remote?
Excellent! I literally just started playing with a Mavic Air2. I’ve only had it in the air 3 times. Lol. This helped tremendously for once I get the hang of it.
Good advice, thank you! Can’t tell you how many times I pictured a scenario only to come home and realize my drone was pointed directly at the sun or the terrain looking dry and not as beautiful as I pictured it in my head. Select videos… delete 11 videos… confirm
What stand are you using on your g9?
Great vid
Wow! I am sure learning lots, even from comments. Thanks. Roger
Very good and useful tips. And certainly also applicable to ordinary filming with a camera on the ground. Many people film anything and everything without a plan or location exploration. It often helps to do a preliminary research on, for example, Google maps. But sometimes it is also important to know the position of the sun for the incidence of light at the location. And for those who don't have the budget to travel, you realize that there is sometimes a lot to see in your own region that you could still discover. Be creative with a plan. Thanks for sharing your experiences and skills. 🆒🎦🎬👌👍👋🍀
Your videos are really helpful. Thanks for sharing the ideas. Love from India 🇮🇳
Before the vid, a add came up and talked about Artlist, copyright free music, I know there is a ton out there, but what website do you use for music? Im new to editing and stuff, just using iMovie, but im running out of the stock iMove jingles.
FPV also helps. The footage is so dynamic.
Finaly!!! Finaly someone mentioned the same feeling that I had, and I thought that something wrong with me: that it is boring to lift the drone and filming different views with no specific reason and planning. Drone footage became so popular and available for everyone that to see something just from above is not so fascinating anymore. And sometime I feel lasy to lift the drone, If I don't see any chance to film something unique.
excellent!
beautiful country
I found the points about don't reveal everything in one shot and to create tension valuable.
I like the part telling not always using the big shots, you need to exclude some things from your shots and combine them into a storyline!
Great tips - I'm finding it difficult to even find places where I can fly the thing - So many restrictions now (in UK), Can't fly over/near people, places where people might be, buildings, public places so my flying consists of images of me staring at the controller in a random overgrown field haha. What I really need is some mountains and a fleet of off roaders...
Cool😍
What if you don’t have a Mac for video editing, what would you recommend for a PC ?
What if your whole show is based on capturing the moment, can be hard to plan your shots. I sometimes go back to the location the next day and get the footage I need.
I think your considerations about not making drone videos boring are very valid and sincere. However, I would like to add two counterpoints, perhaps not because of the aspect of cinema, but of photography. 1 - going to a planned location and dissecting it regardless of whether everything is very well planned can be very interesting. In post production, incredible things are discovered, which were not seen at the time of capture. The creative process, then, is built in an unusual way, or is led to it later; 2 - in 360º photographs, for example, you have the chance to capture everything (something fascinating), and there will always be something very interesting to focus on. By that I mean, that sometimes without anything planned and doing a "machine gun burst" amazing things can be captured. Thanks for the video!
Appreciate
I don’t have a drone yet but this video is really helpful in my pre-buy research. I live in a special government-administrative city in South Korea, so the drone laws are quite strict. After I make sure I’m sticking to the rules, I’ll use this to make sure my footage is engaging!! Thank you ~☀️

Good luck with starting droning. I suggest try to fly in an open space, where you will have less or no people. Try out some movements and you will see with each flight you get more confident. It's totally normal to be nervous in the beginning, even afterwards. I am now droning since 4 years and despite much confidence I got meanwhile, I still have slight feeling of scare. It's always good to have some scare subconscious feeling, thus, you will always be careful when droning.
Jeven: Your drone shots are wow!
naise. thanks m8!
God bless you
hi jevan my name is haasty kawa love your vids keep going anyways I would like to start a channel can you tell me what's the best free video editing for a go pro 10 hero
I'm writing these steps down on the inside of my drone case...let's see if it helps!
Learn so many tricks and ways of flying thanks to your channel. Question: Do you know a software to practice flying? I tried DJI flight simulator but is doesn’t work with my mini 2 remote controller.
@JevenDovey
2 жыл бұрын
Don't know a good software to use. Best way to learn is to find a big open space and fly the drone around. Best thing with these drones is you let go of the controls and the drone will just hover in place
I agree. As a drone pilot and travel video maker myself, I see many people randomly fly drones without any clear mission. Even worse, they fly and annoy many people, which makes it harder for us drone pilots to operate.
Enjoyed this, muchly. I couldn't help thinking about a recent colonoscopy, and why camera novelty doesn't necessarily make for riveting pieces. No plot, no script, no storyboard, no character development. I guess that's why hospitals can't sell video tickets. And neither can drone flights that only show scenery. Oh, wait. Somebody is sure to do one on TicToc.
I got a mini at Christmas and I don't know where to start
Jeven, I need a little help on the rendering side. (adobe premiere pro) I like shooting in 4k 60fps ss 120-200, I film a lot of running animals, etc. I picked up a mavic 2 pro and unfortunately at 60fps it only allows you to do it at 2.7k. Is there a way to render it in 2.7, or do I have to choose 4k or 1080?
@daveco1st
2 жыл бұрын
get a air2s does 4k at 60fps
Drone will auto split the video every 4GB. I see there are lots of small video clips when to output the shooting footage, what should I do If I want a full-length video?
