@Long Johnson yeah, 60 o 70 meters, they can see you in the radar, even if you live in the country side! My little one, doesn't have any registration...they can not doing nothing! Unless you flying in the route of small aeroplanes, helicopters, etc.
Regarding flying backwards. I was advised instead to fly forwards for the equivalent distance/perspective and then reverse the footage afterwards. Thank you for sharing this advice and fair play to you for being willing to share your 'rookie' mistake. Take care.
@JG-oc9gc

agreed. I am always skeptical of flying backwards unless its in clear open space or sky.
@reyzuna
2 жыл бұрын
flying backwards doesn't affect me much as long i can see what's in front and the drone moving away from me if there's something to hit or crash, I don't think this is an issue because if you fly your drone you fly as a pilot so you're a total idiot if you know there's an obstacle in front of you where the drone will hit but you still fly backwards? lols
@JG-oc9gc
2 жыл бұрын
@@reyzuna lol. I still think obstacle avoidance is important especially if you want to do any tracking

If you watch the waves of the flying backwards shot they are backwards, the footage was reversed like you suggested 😉

I have just learned it yesterday, but the quickest way to stop your mini 2 is the return to home button pressed once, really quick. That will stop the drone and hover it in place.
This video is really helpful, as a new pilot I was flying my DJI Mavic Mini Pro 3, and I lost site of it, and it wasn't a good feeling, as I panicked and hit RTH, then I finally could see it. Even with the map, I was just freaked out about not seeing it. So great advice and I need to really follow that one. LOL! Thanks for this.
You definitely don’t want to overshit your target. It gets messy. Check it out at 16:38. Great vid though and thanks!
This is a very important vlog for beginners. Thank you for sharing. Salute to you sir!
Great video thanks! An auto update RTH would be a nice feature. I'll be getting the Mini2 this summer so watching a lot of videos.
Hi, thanks again for some great tips - about to go on holiday with my mini 2, invaluable help.
RTH update fun. I was chatting to a guy who did the round the world yacht race. The boats are doing 30/40 knots a cross the Atlantic. The official race videographer had the drone up taking some awesome footage when his controller pings up a return to home warning. The drone disappears over the horizon back to where it was launched 25 minutes (and about 13 miles) away, to land itself somewhere in the ocean.

@@DannyTillotson when battery is low it defaults to this. You can override by clicking X, but then soon after it will simply start descending to the ground wherever it is. I nearly lost my drone in a field today this way, but quickly zoomed the drone back my direction by looking at the map, my location, my drone, and the way it was pointing. Just barely made it back to me!
Thanx for your advise, Matt👍🏼

Thanks Matt. Great video. Very instructive
This was an amazing video full of insight, thank you. Buying a drone for the first time this week. Although I knew about going into a wide open space and spending a good hour learning the drone, other factors like wind speed up high and rth updates was invaluable to me. Thank you for that. It will be a 249 gram drone so will need obvious registration, but need to learn the laws of flying the drone as well. Again thank you.
Excellent summary. Thank you!
Thankyou, getting my first drone tomorrow. I always listen to experience, the point being experience as what you are telling me is what you have experienced and what cost a lot of money and pride is being passed on. Hopefully one day ill pass on my experience. Thanks.
Appreciate this video. I just had my first flight and I quickly realized flying backwards was bad. Guess I have some binge watching to do. Thanks.

Great advice. I would like to add that if you need to change your props on the Mini2 then to ensure the screws do not loosen, is to add a tiny drop of loctite/threadlock to each thread.

IIRC The prop kits that DJI includes also includes new screws with pre-applied threadlock. So as long as you always use the new screws included, you don’t need to add additional threadlock.

Good tips ! Awesome video. Just received my mini 2 se. I have been reading everything I can about the safe flying of it strictly going by FAA regulations. Thanks and cheers !!!
Thank you so much for this information it really helped me alot
Super explanation! Thanks man
Many thanks for your superb video! I have been flying "toy" drones for a couple of years, upgraded to an MX911, and awaiting delivery of an FPV system. I did take the U.S.A. recreational testing and received my Pilot certification. I have the certificates in all of my drone bags, travel boxes, and also in my car glovebox. (Be aware: if you post/share videos on KZread, Facebook, etc. you are now a PROFESSIONAL pilot and you need to take the FAA 107(?) exam and be certified, licensed, and your drones need to be marked with your FAA license number). What folks need to know, at least in the U.S.A., is that F.A.A. regulated airspace is 12" off the ground! I never knew that! Also, pilots need to have an app on their cell to check for "safe flying/not restricted" air space. DO NOT fly over people. Do not fly over beaches. ALWAYS have a spotter. Be careful in campgrounds...Do not fly a drone without prop guards amongst people (will save your props anyway!). Always trim/spin/check controls...calibrate your drone. Don't fly in windy weather unless your machine is robust! Know the Front and Rear lights on your drone... Practice, Practice, Practice... learn how to hover (waist level), spin in a corner, move to the right, spin in the corner, and continue behind you. DON'T SHOW OFF! You will most likely WRECK 2 or 3 drones before "you get it"....start with inexpensive ones first. Have a Landing pad. Know how to clean and lubricate your UAV. Have glues, epoxies, etc. in your repair kit. Extra batteries, External power block for "charging in the field"...SAFE chargers! So much more! I am excited to be a part of this very rewarding hobby, BUT YOU GOTTA LEARN THE RULES... Thank you Mattheww Brennan!

Great advice, thank you so much.....😉
Thank you kindly! Points I wouldn't have given much thought
Great tutorial ,very informative Matthew
I recently flew too far away and lost signal. Thankfully my drone went straight into RTH mode, and after 10-15 seconds I started getting the imagery back on my phone whilst it was returning, then once I knew where I was I turned RTH off and landed it back where I was manually. I was a bit scared there for a moment! Modern drones are amazing but, still be cautious, particularly if you're beginning!
First time drone owner, I really appreciate the tips!
Great advice, cheers.
Very good advice. I am a new flyer so this helped me a lot. I have a DJI Mini SE 2
Yet another OUTSTANDING tutorial.
Thx! I had actually thought of the last point you made. I just got my drone and am very paranoid about everything.
Great video Matthew. I will be watching your gimbal settings vid next. Did a trial vid the other day and the turns and yaws were super fast - gotta slow it down.

The gimbal settings in that video should help you get more cinematic footage, let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching.
I agree with you. I bought the air 2s and couldn't use it anywhere nearby due to all the restrictions. I'm going to buy a mini 3 pro next so I can freely without all these restrictions.
Wop! Saying “loosing a propeller would be catastrophic” depends. My mavic 2 lost a propeller mid flight. And it adjusted itself to only having 3 propellers, as well as notifying me that either it lost a propeller or one of the motors were damaged. It landed safely with 3 propellers.

Matt, regarding updating your RTH position and your experience on the one lane road, could you have not just made a stick input which would cancel the RTH, and then updated RTH to your present position? Thanks, Bo

Similar happened to me, from wanting one to getting one, law had changed for the Air 2s weight, but in the end A1/A3 suited me fine so just went with that one. Might think about A2 in future.

Really good advice. Keep up the top tips, they’re really helpful, unfortunately I’m watching this after losing my new mini 3 pro this morning. I fell prey to losing site of the drone, then got a wind warning and low battery warning! I went into meltdown mode (first time flying outside my garden) and now I’ve lost the drone. I think it’s crash landed on someone’s roof. Got the location so will go back later and try and retrieve, but I have a feeling it’s on an inaccessible roof! 😢 That’s an expensive mistake. What adds to the pain is I got some really nice shots earlier using your top 10 shot tips. I’m trying to be grown up about it all but I feel quite sick at the moment. Lesson (hopefully) learnt (the hard way!)

Brilliant information.
Great looking set!
Good info.👍
When it comes to battery stress testing, make sure you're in a safe location. I was in the smokey mountains with this beautiful lake and sent my drone out 2 miles. Got beautiful footage, then I flew back at the recommended timing the drone gave me, only I noticed the battery percentage was going down fast. Very fast. Sure enough I was still another quarter mile away from RTH, and there were only woods. Thankfully I spotted a road in the thick woods and as it was doing a forced landing, I could still direct it forward, so I just barely made it to the road, and had it hover there until we got in the car and went to recover it on GPS. Thank god no cars came up that way, because it would have been crushed easily.
Cheers, some good info there !
New to flying. Why does it seem like every drone people talk about is made by DJI? Hard to believe there isn't any serious competition
@AndrewStrydomBRP

Annoyingly there isn't really any great competition from any other big company, only really small Chinese companies that are both difficult to buy from and difficult to get support for.
