The main advantage of a handheld mic is that YOU can decide when the interviewee has to stop talking.

This is my gripe. it started with people using their apple earpods mics as a handheld mic.

I feel like young people thinks it looks cool or something. LIke one person started it and as always people copied them. But damn people, take the time to properly learn how to use your equipment. Then entire point of a lav mic is to be hands free and generally have the mic hidden or unnoticed.

Agreed. It looks weird when people hold the wireless transmitter or lav mic in their hand while talking, instead of just clipping it on their shirt.

All designed on purpose to limit the lifespan, just buy old, microphones have been good for past 40 years, the only difference between a modern mic and an old one, is the receivers have gotten significantly smaller.

YES, @Loki! THIS! I hate seeing creators holding a lav mic like it’s a look. It’s definitely how you can tell a creator from a filmmaker. There’s no motivation for holding the lav. A lot of these are the same creators who shoot a lot of slow mo that doesn’t serve the story and call it b-roll.

Is it able to charge from a USB-C powerbank , while you are recording internally and using it in general (being connected to a Rode wireless ME -or whatever- receiver etc) ? I mean , is it really gonna be worthless after several years of usage because of the dead internal battery , or are you still going to be able to use it , by having it connected to a small power bank ? Thank you very much for your informative presentation and review.

I've wondered about that...often, when someone is holding a lav mic, I find it weird and distracting. [for a while, I thought you left your expensive camera on a tripod, while walking away, backwards, on that London street...yikes! But, it seems you did have someone operating the camera...whew!]

Yes! It's so annoying that it's become 'a thing' for KZreadrs to fumble what they're doing while holding a lav mic. IT HAS A CLIP! Almost as annoying as the masses that don't understand that a mobile phone is a two-way communicator with a speaker in the top and a mic in the bottom! IT'S NOT A WALKIE TALKIE! I sound like a grumpy old man, don't I?!

Finally, someone who just says it like it is, holding it with your hand looks amateurish. And if you are doing professional video work and you are holding the tiny lapelmic up to someone, they will stop taking you seriously.

There is a large section of the public who unfortunately don’t like/trust/appreciate professionalism, they have internalized it as untruthful. So it is apparently a conscious choice of some video makers to do things unprofessionally even going as far as to pretend to be unprofessional…

A decent foam windshield will run you around 10-15 buckerinos, so it's not that bad. It's probably a matter of time before a similar design appears on printables, thingiverse, etc. I think it's pretty cost effective, just a simple handle and foam cover, and you got a decent handheld mic !

you know why people and lazy KZreadrs hold the lav mic or wireless mic to their faces. So they don't have to do any audio editing to fix bass, mid, etc.
