My Madge - my rescue greyhound - had me up at 4.30am this morning, so I heard the dawn chorus on our walk! The birds were singing with pure joy to be alive, and it lifted my spirits at such an early hour to be out in nature. I have always walked my own path, and never seem to have fitted in anywhere, but now I am 67 years young, I do my own thing, and have become quite reclusive, which I enjoy, along with my Madge, who gets me out for walks about 4 times a day, as we do not have a garden here, just a little front area where we can sit out, and I have trees and plants in pots. I enjoy my life, bobbing along every day, and doing what I want to do. I suppose what is boring to some folk, is heaven to another. I too try to take each moment as it comes, as my Madge seems to do, and just make the most of what is - forget about the future, and what may become, just live for the moment, because it will not come again. It very much links to a book called Top 5 Regrets of the Dying and the number 1 regret. Myself, therapy helped me a lot, Inner Child work. But also embracing my introversion (books like Quiet, Sensitive, etc.). So, I also love this "boring" life and I don't care what others think about me anymore ❤ I enjoy little things in life. They're in fact the "big things" ❤

This is a very healing video for me. I'm stuck in my home most of the time because of disabilities. I look a lot at my friends having chances in life I can only dream about. I feel left behind. But am I really? I'm also an artist, not an outstanding one, but I love creating. I love my home. I love my husband and pets. Sometimes living slow feels like missing out. But it's not at all. It's a life with purpose. I secretly might even choose this over all the stress they have. Thank you for making this video. I needed it in this time ♡

We do tend to come back in our minds and stories to moments which felt the most intense, a culmination of sorts, big events, absolute highs and lowest lows. But as in any song where a solo part (or some other moment) might be a culmination, it wouldn't hit as hard unless there was something leading up to that. Slow and boring is as important if not even more so than the culmination. We all need to learn and appreciate the slow moments of life. Beautiful video, and I love the grumpy look of the cat on the thumbnail 😂

I couldn't agree more. One could say that life really is this rollarcoaster we are on, fleeting moments where without these 'lowest lows' we experience, we wouldn't know the value in our highs. Just as you said, it wouldn't hit as hard without something leading up to that. Although, who is to say there is no beauty in these lows? Perhaps it's a state of mind, a way of seeing the world, where we judge the lows for ourself. I guess it's the art of slowing down and noticing what is right in front of you. Sometimes these moments of greatest pleasure are like a butterfly. You chase it, it will run from you. When you decide you don't need to, it will gently rest on your shoulder. And so it is this paradox of the great pursuit in life, where maybe we already have everything we need and we simply fail the character to see it. Boring is subjective. Any moment can be exciting and beautiful if we make it that way in our own minds first, where appreciating the slow moments of life is the first step to achieving it. Haha me too, getting pets to pose for photos is impossible 😂🙈

This is one of my favorite videos you have created! I often struggle to enjoy my life instead of feeling like I am a failure or being anxious about the future. Your painting is beautiful and I adore the atmosphere you create in your work.

It is truly wonderful to realize the simple joys of life. I am slowly relearning how to enjoy these simple joys - looking at things through the eyes of a child - without pretense - just as they are and appreciate them -appreciate the moment. It is a journey and I keep reminding myself -to enjoy this moment and try to find even the tiniest positive side of what's happening. In this world of comparison and competition, I try to stay 'myself' but am working at it. I am glad that I have this opportunity.

Essentially, Life. And yet, it is all too easy to feel a pang of guilt when we stumble upon the edited image of success from someone who "did it", to feel we've come short and failed those who believed in our bright future, and blame it all on ourselves. 'I should have been stronger/better/more ambitious', we say to ourselves. But eventually, Life teaches you the things that really matter, which are never related to success, and you realise that maybe there were different dreams that were waiting for you round a different turn of the road. (It helps that someone wiser helps you open your eyes to this truth! 😉) BTW, your cottage painting is so beautiful and charming!! 😍 I thank you as well for the discovery of the works of such wonderful artists! Thank you for your beautiful videos, I find them and you very inspiring. I too love the book the country diary of an edwardian lady and have also long wished to create a similar book of my own. You have rekindled my desire to paint and draw, something I haven't done in a very long time, I have bought some watercolour paper and have hunted out my paints. I have been dreaming since the end of 2020 to either live in a countryside or even purchase small piece of forest and wild camp there :P I used to hate being outdoors before 2020, but there was a point in my life that my life had changed completely. I am currently in moment I could buy a small house or a piece of land, but would prefer to invest in something I could receive small amounts of money to rent someone something. I really like to be by myself, walk, hike, camp solo not really looking to have same life as someone else. I am happy enough to live my own and enjoy the time as long I am alive.

I do think you are right about comparing ourselves to others. It is useless and drags a person down when we need to be confident in the gifts God put in each of us. Your painting is beautiful and you are a lovely artist 🧑‍🎨 Thank you for the recipe as well. This looks delicious 😋 and like a perfect summer treat for a picnic or perhaps a road trip.

Comparing ourselves to other people is something we learn to avoid as we mature. A more painful comparison, mentioned here and there by Fernando Pessoa, is the comparison between who we are and what we would like to have been.

I like this topic and many others you bring up. I also had a dream in my childhood. I wanted to become Indiana Jones 🤠I worked hard, got a PhD in material science applied to archaeology and cultural heritage but it didn’t make me happy. I quit 10 years ago to live my best little life in the wild. This is really the sprit of Indiana Jones I was looking for I guess. By offering us such quality videos you are Scorcese in your own way!

That’s a wonderful dream and you did what you could to get close to it! That’s so admirable! 😌 I also went to film school, worked in the area, but realised that this environment just wasn’t for me! Felt guilty at start, but I think there is more strength it understanding and acknowledging that something isn’t for you, than to continue suffering just to prove that you’re not “a quitter”. You didn’t quit, you discovered something better for yourself!

@@IamDaria Exactly! I was actually inspired by Steve Jobs’ speech to Stanford students in 2005, given after his cancer diagnosis. He said, “don’t waste it [your time] living someone else’s life.” I could feel his regrets and I didn’t want that for me. Your video gave me inspiration for a short 1 minute film I’ve just made. I enjoy these more personal vlogs quite a bit which is not to say that your other videos are not enjoyed as well.

Owning a lovely house and garden is nice but the driving force and pleasure for me is in creating something beautiful. It may be my art, my garden, an embroidery, knitting etc., I’m always up for a challenge. You don’t need a lot of money to do these things and the satisfaction is immense.

It’s tough, isn’t it! I live in a pretty big village located between multiple cities, and there are a lot of people who rent rooms in the village and take a bus. That’s not to say that it’s what everyone should do, but that’s certainly one way! 😊 But also, you don’t need to move to have a lovely life.. When I lived in my tiny city apartments, I loved decorating my room with plants and nature paintings, which added a bit of that country charm which was unattainable at that time. 🌿
