Stop Bad Leash Behavior with the Sprint-Walk Method | Great Dane Care

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Pulling, tugging, and getting distracted are just a few of the common poor behaviors that can make walking your dog on the leash an unenjoyable experience. For larger dogs, like Great Danes, these poor behaviors are further magnified due to their large size and strength.
To help teach your dog to walk better on a leash, we like to use an easy game called the Sprint-Walk method.
For more tips like this, make sure to take a look at our website, and specifically, our book "The Great Dane Puppy Handbook".

Well, paraplegic here, our puppies were just born 2 weeks ago so we’re awaiting their homecoming. I’ve had dogs my entire life, para since age 17. Mom of 3 and dog owner and lover. Have definitely been able to maintain a dog, but I’m super excited about training my Great Dane early and enjoy the journey. I’m new to Danes and to your channel, but looking forward to trying out all the ideas, just from my wheelchair.

Thank you! My family and I adopted what we *thought* was a Catahoula hound dog mix puppy during social distancing (we live in Colorado too, shout out!). The family who adopted her sister did a DNA test, and it turns out she's a Great Dane!! We've only had German Shepard and Rottweiler mixes before, so a Great Dane is a whole new world... your channel has been so helpful these past few weeks! I can't wait to try this game with little Daphne Doo tomorrow. :)

That’s right - no Divas on set 😅 Gus is handsome and such a lovely dog! Our Great Dane Puppy moves in next week.. 23rd of May! We are soooooo excited! He will be blue as well and our breeder gave us the opportunity to take part on every step of their way becoming a 9 week puppy. And because of you sharing your experience I really want our „Krümel“ become as happy and balanced as Gus is! Please give her a special hug for being an ambassador for her breed 😅🥰!! Have a nice week to come and stay healthy!!

Your videos are the best! This is what people need with great danes, very everyday issues;) I have a 2 1/2 year old female spayed dane/mastiff, my question is "did gus ever go crazy on walks everytime there is another dog?" She has been thru training, she is very obedient in every other way, but this🙃 if you have any ideas I trust your opinion, Thank You😊

@@GreatDaneCare That would be great when you can😊 it is one thing they should teach in dog classes, instead thru all her classes except first puppy class, you were instructed to keep dogg away from them and never meet on leash. Now I don't feel comfortable taking her for walk for fear of seeing another dog. So when you can I will be patiently waiting to watch it. You and your family stay healthy!😊

Great Dane Care and I’ve gotta ask what you think we should do while he’s still small collar wise? Regular around the neck or get him used to something like a small joyride harness? I’ve read the section in your book but not sure for puppies.

My last female was never over 100 lbs. Even later in life she maintained this weight. She came from a very large litter, so maybe all of them were lighter than average. Her parents were pretty big though. She went to 6 weeks shy of 10 years old. The veteran was convinced her weight really helped her throughout her entire life.

Another method is to turn in the opposite direction every time they pull. Like Zach said, keep them guessing.
