How To Train Your Great Dane Puppy to Stop Biting: Don't Make These Mistakes! | Great Dane Care

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Puppy biting is extremely common with Great Danes and other dog breeds. Unfortunately for us, puppies bite for a variety of reasons and it can be harder than expected to train them to not bite.
This is incredibly frustrating as an owner because it's not only painful but can take longer than expected to resolve.
In this video, we cover one approach to teaching your Great Dane puppy to not bite and offer the resources below for additional ways to train your puppy or dog to not bite.

    When Apollo was a puppy I would use the "cry and ignore" method. He loved to grab my hands with his mouth to attempt to get my attention. So, I started to pretend to cry when he did it, then turned my back to him and didn't give him attention. It took about a week (maybe 2) of my husband and me both doing it that finally got it through to Apollo not to bite us. Just be consistent! You got this!

    Wish I had seen this vid a year ago, when my Dobie pup was going through teething! At first, I felt that he didn't like me or was being aggressive, just like you said! I had a Great Dane many, many years ago, but acquired him as an older dog. I have been thinking of getting a Dane puppy now that I've survived the first 1.5 yrs of my Dobie!

    I love Gus and your videos! They're very helpfull with our great dane, so thank you! I do have a question. Our dane puppie (11weeks old) doesn't bite on our hands or arms, only on everything on the floor. When we are outside he tries to eat grass, rocks and well, like everything that's on the ground. and when we ware inside he constantly leaves his toys to play with shoes and other stuff we don't want him to play with. Do you have any tips to deal with this?

    What can we do When the “sharp-cry” method isn’t effective? We have 4 kids in the house and I think our puppy is so used to hearing loud screams and crying ..... he is unphased By the sharp cry method. We have been trying this method for almost a month and it isn’t working . We cry out , back away and sometimes even turn our backs . At this point, our pup jumps on us and barks , while continuing to bite, nip.

    I am following from UK, preparing for my new puppy (male) who I'm collecting on Friday afternoon, loving your videos. He's a brindle, great dane / rhodesian ridgeback. Should I consider anything else whilst training him the way you have recommended? Thank you! Tiffany.

    Mine like to nibble my chin. Right now my puppy likes to chew the food stand. So I sprayed it with vinegar which makes him sneeze when he goes near it. But I have to spray it daily. Very helpful video 🙂

    I always walk and play with my two months old dane, Maximus. If he gets tired he'll stop biting and sleep then I can work. I gave him a lot of toys to bite but he always prefer biting our stuff. Everytime he bite my hands I always react and tell him that's bad.

    Hey Zach, my name is Frank do you have a video on how you've discipline Gus or any great dane for that matter? Especially after doing something wrong. Is there a special place you send him to? What's your tone of voice?

  • @GreatDaneCare

    @GreatDaneCare

    3 жыл бұрын

    That’s a great question, unfortunately I’ve never made a video on it though! A firm tone is usually enough to convey your displeasure when they’ve done something wrong. No need to yell or go nuts as they a high emotional IQ. One thing you especially don’t want to do is send them to their crate or bed as that should always be a place of safety and comfort and not punishment.

    I have a 3 and 2 year old and we got a great Dane from someone off of craigslist. She is still kinda young so I know she is just playing but she gets very hyper around them and nips at them an everything and idk how to fix this. It makes it where they dont even want to be around her. I dont know what I need to do to get her to know when they get scared that they dont like it. They are still kinda young to be able to do these methods.

    Issues I am having with my 3 months old. She wants you to play with her. You play with her. She then plays with herself. Pawing me when she's too excited, especially in the face. Has too much energy especially at bedtime sometimes. Or runs at me while sitting on couch or in bed.

    For me it’s my arm and my damn fingers. It’s a pain in the butt and I think it’s also because he doesn’t get out much. It’s not my dog but my mother’s and yet I’m the one who’s always having to babysit him because she’s never home and when she does get home, she’s z too exhausted to play or spend time with him.
