Stomp the Plank Review: ELEPHUN-TIMES AHOY!
Ойындар
ELEPHUN-TIMES AHOY! This week’s video is about Stomp The Plank, a dexterity game that’s arguably for children but has stolen our hearts regardless. Mixing horrible push-your-luck mechanics with a truly adorable selection of plastic elephant pirate-things, this magnetic wonder is a delight for all ages and an easy recommendation. ENJ(AH)OY!

It feels like Matt's game recommendations at this point are either the heaviest most complicated games or literal kids games. It's pretty endearing.

You need to make a playthrough of this where you roleplay as nautical elephant criminals.

Clearly elephants are the whales of the earth and whales are the whales of the sea. Is it not enough that we dress our whales of the earth in pirate garb and flaunt them on wooden stages above his domain?! You wish to further irritate Poseidon by claiming some of his mightiest subjects for our own? Surely Poseidon with his powerful trident will smote us all for this unabashed hubris!

@@XCM666 Well played, friend. Well played.
Almost thought Tom was joking when he said Matt was reviewing the elephant game for 5 year olds, but here we are!
I'd love more games like this... not less. Your Super Rhino recommend was phenomenal stuff for 3 adults trying to entertain a 10yr old😂
The team: Matt, there's no way you can make a 10-minute video review about this game. Matt: Hold my beer
Oh Matt, you sweet summer man-child... You *can't* be more "west country" than "pirate", because "pirate" literally *is* "west country". The first man to play Long John Silver in a colour movie was Robert Newton, and it was such a popular movie that his heavy west country accent became the de facto pirate accent.
Following my boardgame obsession I rarely stumble upon good kids games and thats a shame ! It's nice to be able to inspire kids for this hobby and I rarely know how. Thanks for covering my blind spot :)
Excellent review, this replaced Brass Birmingham for me.
My 5 and 3yr old can't play frosthaven yet (and my wife will NEVER play it) but who can resist sea elephants go splosh?! Thanks for this review, please keep them coming! For those looking for similar experiences, Loki, the family offshoot of Iello, is doing a pretty good job with family friendly games that aren't tedious to play!
as someone with a slightly greater than half-baked concept of the nature of physics: stacking them up at an angle like that doesn't do anything. all of the weight is being transferred through the bottom disc so only the position of the bottom disc matters.

Centre of gravity will shift though.
Love that you are reviewing family games. When I play games with my family, I have a whale of a time. Memories that I will never forget.
@shutupandsitdown thanks for the review, my 6 year old son is very happy that Santa delivered this 😊
Just what i needed exactly when i needed it. Thanks for sweetening my evening with this review
"Water is not real" is the conspiracy theory that I was not prepared for today. Down the youtube rabbit hole I go...
Great review, this looks like it could have an excellent place in my collection alongside 'fire in the hole' which fits that niche of silly fun suitable for almost any age, which gets it to the table more often than I'd expect!
We are dangerously close to fulfilling Tom's prophecy of the future
Matt, obviously the acceptable technical term for the figures is "pachydirate". Also note that "piratderm" is narrowly acceptable.
Great to see SU&SD review a child inclusive game. Having a young daughter has changed my board game buying habits so would love to see more of this content.
Matts last elephant pun at the end had me burst out laughing.
So odd that 3 of the elephant-pirates are exposed to the elements, but one is in a bag with a dessicant sachet. And, FTW, Pirate Accent is technically an offshoot of West Country, so it's fine!
I like elephants almost as much as I like gambling. This is the perfect game!
We have Ice Team, and from the start I thought “This has a familiar aesthetic…” Thanks for the recommendation, this absolutely goes on the BUY! list. :-)
I love a good Push Your Trunk mechanic.
This is one of my all time favorite SUSD reviews.
Strangely saddened to be reminded, once again, that Matt is indeed still not my mother.
2:30 *Trunkaneers*
Those are really cute elephants. And they're dressed for swimming! :)
"Geneva? I hardly knew her!" Love it. Another variant I like is "I don't know who this Geneva is everyone keeps talking about, but I have no interest in going to her lame convention."
I love it when you find these kids games that can be enjoyed by all but those with no sense of fun. Another great vid!
Just imported this thing from France solely based on Matt's excitement for the earth whales and my golly we (middle aged 'grown ups') had a blast!
Justice for the pirate elephants!! They were discriminated by the non-elephant crew.
Great review! Looking forward to picking this up.
Oh boy, this was bought by my boarding game café already a long time ago. Nice to see it reviewed in the Anglosphere!
arguably, water is real also, i dont even play boardgames, but this looks like fun, for the whole family
And, whaddabout grownups? 4:57 - exactly right, sir. That isn't helped one jot by Kermit DeVito hectoring us silently-yet-intently from the background... Again!
Funny, our favourite drinks game was Walk the Plank. You have me intrigued on this one
I can't think of a truer challenge in game design than getting a group of children to sit around a table in the year 2023.
@andyjacobs7010

You mean sit around a table - without being on electronic devices.
It works out since our idea of piratese comes from an actor in the 50s using the West Country accent for his Long John Silver, and ever since that’s how we’ve thought pirates speak/spoke. So if it’s a bit more West Country than pirate, then it’s pretty much pirate. :)
I will never not find a Brit saying “oh it fell ovah…” absolutely hilarious…. :)
This looks like the perfect Christmas present for my 6 year old niece.
OK. Is that Alan Greenspan or Reg Holdsworth looking over Matt's shoulder at about 6 minutes in? More to the point: which and why?

Danny DeVito. But as for why? No idea on that one at all...
Fun game concept and fun review delivery! Thanks! :D
elephants never forgive XD
Does the game come with the silica packet 😭
This looks like it could be a board game I played as a kid and was reminded of when I was like 35 when I saw a copy in a second hand store and picked up a copy only to discover it was pretty fun but then we stopped playing it and never picked it up again.
Best review in years!!!
we should make theoretical physicists play this game
Seems like such a sweet and charming game :) thank you for the review!
Awesome !!!🐘 I’m still waiting for your review of “Catapult Feud”, when is that coming ?
Sigh. So naturally I had to buy this game immediately. Hope you are happy.
Just as Tom foretold!
I think the term is "piratical pachyderms"
Have an elephant-astic day.
are there any dexterity games you would recommend ?
Good video 👍🏾. Game for everyone!
Damn, man. It was just an idle thought.
Was thinking this review would come out awhile from now based on what Future Tom said last episode. Oh well! We'll miss you Matt
2:30: I think the term you are searching for is Pirachyderm
Elephants the whales of the earth- the kind of hot board game takes i come to Shut Up and Sit Down for!
Matt Lees, king of the dexterity games (except Crokinole).
my name is bryan... i literally felt called out for a second there
If someone wins before anyone falls off, everyone but the winner drinks. First person to fall off drinks (then reset because elimination games are bad party games). Draw two of the same card on your first two draws of a turn -- ALSO DRINK!
A Matt review is a Good review
As from min 8 I got distracted by the reflection on Matt's nose. But great review!
I'm worried about what that forbiddiphant will do. Better crack that game out soon, that's a lot of alone time to ponder and plot.
It's great for collecting dust after playing once
I guess that the elephants symbolise Malazan ship captains who were supposed to pick up Chain of Dogs
so Tom was in one scene, and then he was gone and Danny DeVito is there Tom is Danny DeVto!

This reminds me a bit of Echidna Shuffle both in its cute, kid-friendly exterior and its prickly, gently-mean underbelly.
Brass with the pirate elephant expansion.
This is a great pub game
The treatment of the Forbiddephant is harsh : (
Well adults get to enjoy the temporary euphoria of paying for the game. Kids get to play haha

Shouldn't you stagger the disks towards the water to increase the chances of the plank falling over?

Stop recommending Diamant!!! lol, it is unavailable and you twist the knife everytime.
Weird insert choice. They could have had all four elephants going vertical, and then just have the cards and wood tokens in the other two areas.

Can we have more recipes with boardgames pls
I don't think the line @ 4:23 is referring to the slave trade but it kiiiiinda sounds like its referring to the slave trade.
How can a pirate accent be too West Country?

I find it funny how you guys started to say that having not all rules in the rulebook is a good thing :D
@flavflav7792
Жыл бұрын
Game designers had in the rulebook only one end condition with one loser (first to fall) but after 6 months of demoing in the UK, we realized most of the people were continuing until there's one surviving pirate ... We asked and they accepted us to offer both end game in the rulebook ;)
Ever tried FLYIN' GOBLIN? 👾 A really nice Lebrat/Rivière catapult fun game (iello) - with kids older than 36 even more compatible & squeaky!
Internet is real, coming for Matt, thinks he’s taking the mick
Clearly a game for adults. Children would break the planks.
It looks great but is it available?
