For sure, more "stock friendly" would be great. Some of us newbies are still building confidence in our vehicles and learning what they're capable of. Thanks!

I like these type videos that say exactly where you are, what roads are taken and explain the terrain. Some folks only get to do one or two big trips a year and I'd hate to find myself knee deep in mud or crossing a boulder field when I wasn't prepared for it. It would be helpful in the comments if you could list the roads as spellings can be different that what you'd think. Callies vs Kellys for instance.

Thanks! Hello Finn.
Appreciate your high quality podcast! I’m 78 and suffering from bad health, can’t travel any more. Want to give you some advice. A Kentucky Department of Resources told me and my wife to pack a 50 caliber handgun. That was after I shot and killed a wolf that was over 8 ft. Walked on its hind legs. Had a haunting aurora about it even when dead. The officer said I should not say anything no photos. He said Cherokee have been at war with these things 2000 yrs. He said these are Devil made according to Elders. Wife descendent. In Michigan we are required to but silencer to be on shooting range. I also have laser I can drop a moose at 300 yds. Some states illegal, he said hide it save your life. I took him out at 50 yds eye shot blew off top of his head. Officer told me if he could of gotten to us he would of ripped us limb for limb. 😮.

Your timing is great! Got a stock AWD SUV with decent ground clearance, and will be coming down to that area the first weekend in June for the Overland Vehicle Summit. Will probably mark up a map (or OnX online) while rewatching this video. Thanks!

Good content. Unfortunately, like the jeep badge rating system, the trails can change drastically seasonally. Is old walker creek washed out completely yet? Love that trail but last year it was pretty sketchy with the narrow washout!
@CoddiwompleOverland
14 күн бұрын
You are correct about trails changing. Old Walker is very sketchy. The last time we saw it, I would not take my rig across it.
There's an un-met need from the off-road van community which you may be be able to provide; can you find, and drive, trails that 4x4 or AWD Transits (148 non-extended) and Sprinters (144) can drive? There are varying roof-heights for these vans so expecting that to be a limiting factor too. I am one owner who is interested spending time in these areas but just don't know where to go. The West receives plenty of love but think KY, TN are just as deserving. Any help is always welcome.
@CoddiwompleOverland

The first thing I would caution is 4 wheel drive is different than AWD. I wish I could help, but we have no experience in a van. Any advice that I would give would be purely speculation.
This is a very helpful and just the video I was looking for … Is there any way to share your exact route.

How do you think a stock F-150 would do along those routes? I don't doubt my old stockish JKU could've done it, but the F-150 is a little lower and doesn't have the undercarriage protection.

Take your time, and you should be fine. The hardest parts are shown on the video. Check the creeks for high water before going through.
