Why ONEPLUS OPEN is better. - $100 Cheaper, if you trade in any garbage phone its $300 cheaper. - 16GB RAM, 512GB Storage - IR Blaster - Dual LTPO screen 2K@120Hz, 2800 nits (Dolby Vision) - Triple Speaker(spatial audio) (Dolby Atmos) - Slimmer and lighter - Less noticeable crease - 67W charging The only thing the FOLD 5 got is the S-pen and water resistance. OPEN is a way better deal, or wait for FOLD 6.

Tl;dr I disagree with everything except for spen and dex. 1)" point of the foldable is to be opened"- according to whom? Not for me. If anything, I'd like to use the phone functions as much as possible during the day due to sheer inconvenience of opening a large piece of slab to its full size (with concrete below you begging for you to accidentally drop it in that state). I want to type a 3 sentence message without making 20 mistakes in the process. 20:9 aspect ratio solved that. The beauty of foldable is to use it when you know no regular smartphone would be able to do what a foldable easily can (split-screen,viewing and editing docs, serious web browsing). 2) infinity o is barely a distraction,I'd rather have a half decent cam than dumpster fire of camera for the sake of being invisible (but it really isn't 100% invisible) 3)crease. Oh yeah, Samsung's showing it alright, especially after a year of use when the crease splits in half and you get not one, but 2 separate screens. 4)water resistance was NOT sacrificed. It's just as water resistant as fold 5. They sacrificed paying for ipx8 certificate. A stupid decision given its eye-watering price, but hey... 5)software. Half agree. OnePlus has clearly superior multitasking and drag-and-drop method compared to fold 5, but optimization of apps is still required 6)dex- I agree 7)camera. Photo/video quality always thrumps features. Always! That's why people prefer iPhone. Simple point and shot, no Nikon-like modes that take ages to learn. If you really want the pro features, there's always an app for that. Quality cannot always be fixed, especially night mode photos, raw hardware is a neccesss prerequisite for any further solid photo editing 8)s pen-agreed. However, spen sucks on fold 5 just as well with no s-pen slot, no support for outer display and painful writing experience throughout the inner crease 9)wireless charging-what's so convenient about wireless charging over wired? You can't use your phone and charge while on charging pad. The simple find and plug in cable takes 2 seconds (or are we as a human race too lazy even for that). Sure it's better to have and not need it than need it and not have it, but then do the feature right. Don't give me that crappy 10-15 w wireless charging from 2019 like Samsung To top it all of, One Plus gives superior hardware (and partially software experience) for $300 less, with tradein included. If I weren't in a rush of buying another phone, I'd pick Open over fold 5 any day of the week.

imo, the s pen shouldn't be inside. The whole concept behind samsung's ZFolds and foldables in general means that they are constricted/limited by design. Forcing that pen introduces even more internal limitations and is quite simply not worth it. The only way it gets inside, is by making the foldables that much wider, which destroys the whole purpose in the first place. And we lose practicality since the pen becomes even smaller, which is fine on a small slab, but not so much on a much bigger display. It's a device I between the void of a tab and a slab, people should learn to not judge it like it's either of those. Only hope is side magnets at some point, but even that will be tough with the limited space unlike a tab, but we'll see.

it definitely doesn't need to be much wider. As wide as the Open is would leave the room necessary on one size while increasing battery size on the other. The Z Fold is a niche device, so each half also being 1 mm thicker would also be perfectly acceptable to increase battery size. I'm a grown man, I can handle a slightly thicker and heavier device for a 20%+ increase in battery.

*No it shouldn't ! !* . . . I have 4 Samsung S-pen devices. Here's the deal. Have *extra* S-pens. To pick up and use grab-n-go-style on the fly as need. That's what I do. And I'll tell you why: _It's the storage hole itself._ . . . . [ *EDIT* : There's a host of complexities related to modifying the design to begin with, which another post covers, so I won't here. And then there's this : ] *I hate that dang little holster hole !* Whether it's the one built into the phone or when in those rubbery protective cases we use it's like pulling teeth extracting S-pens out of that grippy material. Putting in & taking S-pens out began *annoying me* like a _tedious little extra chore_ over time. *So just get extra S-pens !* ...They're not exorbitantly priced, ...don't be a miser... Using cost as a reason to justify not getting extra S-pens, to me, is just a convenient little *copout excuse.* Fact is, nobody seems to have a problem spending about the same amount of dough at the food court in the mall when they have the munchies after the movie etc etc... Well, S-pens *_LAST_* , _unlike a cheeseburger._ Friend, Life is *so much easier* having S-pens just laying around in various locations... Right now I'm up to about 5, & every once in awhile on impulse I'll pick up another, 'til I'm up to about *10* and _I have no problem with that at all..._ S-pens are like fresh clean socks ..better to have a few too many than not enough, the piece of mind, not frustration, just makes each day _that little bit easier.._ *every little bit counts !*

As an aside, Samsung did not start wireless charging. The Palm Pre did back in 2009. Yes, I am that old. The Z Fold 5 is a much better working multitask device. I've used the Pixel and the Open as well now and the Z Fold 5 just remains the better device for work tasks. Throw in Dex support and it's not close. The Z Fold 6 needs to up it's game though. I'm not really concerned about camera hardware since there are other devices more suitable for that. It needs a better screen ratio/size similar to the Open for one. This would allow a larger battery on one side and a space to integrate the S Pen on the other. I don't mind if it's slightly thicker either to increase battery. This is a niche device still and most of us are adults that can handle a couple more ounces in weight. 45w charging at a minimum as well. In a world of 65w charging, 45w should be the minimum. As for wireless charging, it's really a non issue for me and most people. It's too slow and too hot. For earbuds and watches with tiny batteries, that's fine. For a phone, I just have zero desire to slow charge. It takes an extra 2 seconds to plug it in. People complaining about the Open not having it, it's just background noise to me.

This comment isn't to convince people to switch or to put down this gentleman in anyway. But for anyone that's had a similar experience in that you're not alone. I've personally been slighted by Samsung for years (note 5, s10, a7, watch 3& 4, sound bar, washer & dryer and my current phone s21 ultra 5G 256GB) current phone hasnt been able to consistently hold a connection to anything for about 18 months now (wifi, bluetooth and even carrier network). I will agree, out of the box their products are amazing, but I have the experience where that doesnt last more than 6 months on average. The last straw was when they bricked my watch with an update then wanted me to pay to replace or fix it. Then expected me to wait 2 months for this. This feels like paid sponser defense. He keeps bringing up how they don't sacrifice this for that but they have always sacrificed longevity for these features which kills it for me personally, especially when you slap a $2k price tag on something. I will say Samsung has done an amazing job, like Apple, with their brainwash marketing. So personally, even if the open isn't peak yet, that other companies are giving them a run on this new tech is good news. Because once one hits it, I'm personally done with this brand.

Samsung is GOD to him where he simply cant see any faults. My personal experience with having both Samsung folds z fold 3 and z fold 4 z was worse than hell. Both the z fold 3 and z fold 4 had screen protector peeling off on its own at the middle of the crease with big black crease like big black tar in the middle so i went to Samsung they said don't worry ur inner display wont damage as its only the screen protector so i believed them and after few months of ending of 1 year it had grown so big i took it again to Samsung and they removed the screen protector and said the inner display is damaged permanently due to the screen protector peeling off on its own and the black tar in the middle of the very big crease will stay permanently on the display no matter if the put another screen protector or not cause the BIG crease of Samsung had done it.Anyways i though this problem had been fixed in z fold 4 so i went and bough z fold 4 and same thing happened and at the end of 2nd year z fold 3 simply wouldn't fold close due to hinge failure and after end of 3rd year z fold 4 both having ugly TAR in the middle .The problem is Samsung has lots of moving parts 200+ the more moving parts make the hinge less durable so if they said 5 years its likely gonna go off like mine in 1 year or 2 years

I got so annoyed having to open it Every Single Time I wanted to use it I just switched back to the iPhone SE. The fact that neither display is a standard aspect ratio also sucks because it means apps aren’t optimized for either display. At least on the OnePlus, you have the front display if an app isn’t working properly and needs a standard aspect ratio.

The point of a foldable is that you have the larger screen available for use _when_ you need a larger screen. You shouldn't have to be forced to use the inner screen just to get access to basic functionality (like the ability to type easily)

Great video and points made. 👍 All my devices are Samsung but i think Oneplus have a killer product in the Oneplus Open. I have never understood why Samsung couldn't make a foldable with wide displays both for fold & flip. I compared the Oppo flip n3 to the Samsung flip and it was better in my opinion. It's the same when i look at the Oneplus open & Samsung Fold 5, i think Oneplus did a better job, they have polished their software and with time it would get better. I think Samsung got complacent, look at the weight of their fold, width of the outer screen, gap at the hinge etc. I just think it's taken then too long to improve things which is confront the Chinese are doing really fast and the way things are going they would catch up with Samsung.

OnePlsu didn't really polish "their" software, Oppo did. Next only certain software got refined/polished not the overall offerings. how many 1st party features/offerings compare to Samsung's and then consider GoodLock by Samsung?! Therein I think you made a mistake, but your choice is valid for YOU and that's all anyone can do really!! Samsung did NOT become complacent. Saying so would be blind. Year over Year Q3 Samsung out delivered what ALL industry analyst expected EVEN though the entire industry suffered lower shipments, Samsung's profit climbed not to mention lowered expenses. Samsung is NOT new to phones or smartphones, something TOO many forget. Samsung has had: Licensed S60/Symbian based phones, PocketPC Smartphone Edition Phones, Windows Mobile 7/8 phones as well. They KNOW what their doing! They know when to spend more on R&D and when doing so will pay off in product releases. Doing minimal R&D in 2022-2023 allows for more product deals and marketing and sales which panned out successfully for them. Now R&D spending can be done for innovative products and sales for 2024/2025 and leap frog the competition. whom has the largest GLOBAL shipments and warranty support? whom has the lions share of market? whom has the largest support of Android software working on both inner and outter displays on the PlayStore? Whom has THE best support of 3rd party launchers - that support all features for their foldables?! That's right ... say it one time for me boys & girls .... Samsung! ^ look at that name as a lexicon: Sam + Sun + of a G! Sam, who's Son of a G! Yup that be me! DeepIn2U. Peace.

Frankly I didn't think I would say that but I prefer this narrow screen over time, when I switch to a large modern smartphone or even the OP open, I like less the handling of the screen in the format20:9, the only advantage and even in real life I write the same on the 2 type of screen is the width of the keyboard.. but I make 0 mistakes here too so it's a false argument Now I find that the Oppo find n3 is good, the oneplus open is miserable... Why do I say that the oppo find n3 is honest, Oppo gives you real specs, oneplus lies like kids alo While it's the same tel!!! For me it's redflag.☠️ You can't say 1m opening if you have a factory quality hinge 2.5 times lower than z fold 5 (z fold 3 equivalent which resists 300k folds), you can't say 2800 nits when we measured at best 1405....... There's 1395 nits of marketing lie sorry but that doesn't give me a reason to Trust in oneplus...

If Samsung's approach to their Z Fold line is the inner screen is the main screen, and the outer is their secondary, then I think it is the wrong approach. I think a bookstyle foldable should be a 2-in-1, a phone and a tablet in one, so both screens should be pleasurable to use as a phone and a tablet. I feel like Samsung has taken the same approach as their Z Flip line, where the outer display is only meant for smaller, simple tasks such as checking notifications, and the inner display is the main screen. This makes sense on the Z Flip line since its main purpose is to be a regular phone that's meant to fold in half to become more compact/pocketable. On the other hand, the Z Fold has the capacity to also be a tablet in addition to being a regular sized phone. Something which the Z Flip can’t do. So for the people that are coming from regular sized slab phones, the Z Fold's outer screen feels too restricting, narrow, and uncomfortable use as a regular phone. It feels like it is forcing these users to use the inner screen, which isn't great as you want your device to be used as you like, not to be forced to use it in a particular way, inconvenient to you. As an owner of the Z Fold 4 who 85% uses the inner screen, I disagree with the argument that if you don't unfold it often, then you shouldn't buy foldable at all. If someone purchases a foldable and uses the outer screen a majority of the time, as long as they are satisfied with their purchase, as long as there are times when they do see the inner screen as useful, even 5%-10% of the time, it is worth it. You should have the choice to use whichever screen to your liking, and only the people who shouldn't, or should reconsider buying a foldable phone, are the ones that do not see any purpose in using the inner screen at all. Now that I think about it, I guess if your perspective of the inner screen of the foldable is the 'main screen', (rather than seeing it as a 2-in-1, phone and a tablet), and you barely use the 'main screen', it would make sense for you to assert that people who barely use the inner screen should just get a regular slab phone instead, since they are barely using the 'main screen'. As for the hole punch camera, I feel a bit conflicted by your point, that Oneplus's camera on the inner display shows they do not understand the whole point of giving the best screen experience to their users. If your point holds true, then a majority of the phones available today do not understand how to give the best display experience on their phones, since most have the hole punch camera. I believe OnePlus and the rest have just opted for the inner screen hole punch camera for better inner screen photo quality, and it doesn't necessarily correlate to not understanding how to give the best inner display experience. With the crease, it sounds bizarre if Samsung designed their current foldables to have a deep crease just to show that it is there and they're not hiding it. The different foldable creases from various companies are because of different designs and implementations of their inner screen and how it folds with the hinge. Yes, the crease might sag over time, but that accounts for all foldables, including the Z Fold. And with the OnePlus, it is too soon to say that it will sag to the depth of Z Fold's. We don't know yet, but honestly I will assume it still won't be as noticeable as Samsung's Z Fold as the OnePlus Open is the Oppo Find N3, which is their 3rd upgraded gen of the 'water drop' hinge. Samsung has just begun using the 'water drop' hinge, and I believe OnePlus/Oppo are ahead in hardware, especially since they are boasting a 1,000,000 fold lifespan with only 69 parts, compared to Z Fold's 200,000 fold lifespan with probably higher parts count.

I have both phones here and have been a Fold users since the Fold 2. Whilst I agree with the first point, where Samsung has made a different design decision which makes total sense and I do have to say the Open is clunckier to hold. However I completely disagree with you on the crease. This has been the biggest complaint I have had. It is HUGE, it is ANNOYING when you are reading text and it is always right in your face. The inner display on the Oneplus blows the Fold out of the water..period.It is gorgeous and there is no crease. And there will be no crease since the hinge design is completely different from Samsung. So what you are saying is bullocks. Software and haptics clearly go to the Fold, but Oneplus delivers a solid experience. Having a larger outer screen is also definitely a big benefit, you are a lot less prone to typos and you can just see more content. So this is a serious contender and I am dropping my Fold 5.

I almost got the Pixel, glad I didn't. I don't use wireless charging so no deal breaker for me. I can't wait to get my pre-ordered Open! It's the absolute best form factor in the US in my opinion. Just cause the outter screen is wider doesn't mean it will stop people from opening the phone up. 2. The crease, Jesus man come one. Yes phones creases do get a little worse over time. But the point is OnePlus Opens crease will still look 10x better than the Fold 5 after years of use. This video just seems like a sympathy video for himself, to make himself feel better about getting the Fold 5 over the OnePlus Open. 😂

Your point is well taken. But you've missed the mark here. Most people...in most cases...are going to use the outside screen. 75-80% of the time. It's when you're walking around, standing in a bus, or when doing something where the other hand is carrying something, you use the front to browse. When you sit down somewhere, then you open. The slim profile is terrible for pretty much everything. Majority of people dislike the thin screen. You like it? Fine. But you're a small minority. The crease? Please bruh. They aren't trying to hide it because they can't get rid of it. From Version 1 to version 5, they can't figure how to get rid of it. That's why for Version 6, they decided to reverse engineer a Huawei fold. Plus, how do you know all phones will eventually have the crease? Is that going to take place in a year? Two years? How would you know? IPX8? I don't care. I don't plan to swim with it. I've had cell phones since 1995. In almost 30 years, you know how many phones I've totally damaged due to water? One. Dropped my Nokia in the toilet and let it sit for a few seconds while I decided if I was going to go in after it. Software? Software can be updated. Hardware cannot. This fold is inferior to the Open in terms of hardware and it's not close. Every category, it loses. Pen? Everyone uses the pen at first like a novelty toy. But eventually they won't. Guaranteed. Don't need it. Wireless charging? Why would I want to sacrifice efficiency for convenience? If I use wireless charging, it sits there charging at 10-15W. WHy not plug it in and be done 4-5X faster? Makes not sense. Wireless charging makes the battery hot and can damage the battery. Nobody has perfected this yet.

Samsung needs to do this for the US phone market. 1) Dual physical sim phones! 2) Faster wireless charging AND/OR wired charging! Samsung's wired and wireless charging are not superior but should be for a "leading" company with supposedly top notch R&D. Those two features alone have been options with other manufactures for years but NOT Samsung in the US market?! Some might call it trivial...but overall...so could the Snapdragon/Exynos debate regarding actual real world performance. Rumor has it that DEX is going to have competition in the future as the android OS makes it standard versus "proprietary" on future phones. The Oneplus cameras (tele and UW) are better and can be made even better with 3rd party camera apps. The software/desktop layout is subjective. People use different launchers as well, bypassing the default GUI. Security is going to be important. Samsung's secure folder is nice...and this is one area that I don't believe Oneplus matches up. Overall, I'll be keeping an eye on all phones being released in the next 6-12 months as I'm looking to upgrade from a Note.

Yet no one complains about Apple being slow with things. The new open looks great. The fold 5 is my first fold. I have been waiting for it to be polished. I don't want my cover display to be too wide. Sure, a little wider would be nice. I don't have small hands. But when you only use one phone every day it is easier to get used to. And it is easier to make calls when it is not too wide to hold. I agree that you are supposed to use the inner display. make the front too wide, and you will hardly use the big screen. Even now, I use the cover display more than I thought I would have. And I don't use the inner camera, so I am so glad the fold has it under the screen. But it's there if I need it. And the camera on the back of the open is huge, which is ok, but it's going to get in the way. I even like the thin s pen on the new case of the fold 5.

The form factor and camera has been lazy and I wish they would make the display cover wider. Phone !!!!. You need to operate by one hand so when its folded. Zfold is to narrow. I make too much mistakes when typing and after that need to unfold it. This is wrong !!!!. Regarding cameras I wont argue but Im not very happy about Zfold 4 cameres, hate the camera software in samsumg. Dont know what Open will offer. One small pinch in corner is no problem, of couse samsung is better. Crease in Zfold is terrible, and you dont know whow if crease in open will grow in time. Never used stylus and never felt I need it for my fold4 and open will probaby have stylus soon, configurstion menu is prepared for stylu. Wireles chargin looses lot of energy, heats up phone and its slow. I dont need to charge fold4 at day at home, connect it at night when go sleep, slow and safe for battery. I bough magsafe powerbank for holiday trips, but stopped using it after 5 minuts becouse its so slow, on vacation much more importaint is fast charging, after half day of making photos, connect, 40minuts and done. Bixby, installed, unnistaleed forgot. Additionaly what I hate in samsung is all their apps. Half of them even cannot be unistaled or turned off. That why im going to fold my Samsung and will open Oneplus ;-)

Hot Take: Just because Samsung "pioneered" the category (they didn't start it.) doesn't mean they own it and control the direction it takes. The idea of foldables started as a normal phone that then gets bigger for media consumption and productivity. Essentially replacing a tablet. It didn't start as a tablet that then is shrunken down to a compromised form factor. Just watch as Samsung updates the Fold 6 with a new form factor to match normal phones when closed...because that's what people actually want. Samsung has been stagnant because of the lack of competition. But now they actually have to try with google and, to a greater degree, OnePlus bringing heat. If Samsung adopted the form factor the open has, instead of only just now eliminating the gap, we wouldn't be having this convo and the open would be DOA. Edit: Wireless charging is very much overrated. Don't get me wrong, it's still a knock on OnePlus to ignore it on a $1,700 device. Their excuses are not valid nor will it ever be. But the VAST majority of consumers do not have a "wireless charging ecosystem."". In its current state it's a convenience, not a necessity. Most peoples experience is one, MAYBE two, charger at home they occasionally use and maybe one in their car. It charges SIGNIFICANTLY slower, requires you to abandon your device and requires a separate purchase that you only have available in certain spots of the house.

You can get the Oppo pen. You can add (slow)wireless charging on any phone. You cannot ADD warp charging. What good is a pen when writing on the inner display is like driving into a pothole with that huge crease. This is technically the third Gen for Oppo/OnePlus. The crease is not getting any worse over time. No one has shown a worn crease at all for OnePlus You clearly haven't used Open Canvas. You can have 4 apps with at once without sacrifice of size along with drag and drop. You haven't really seen the OnePlus camera software, have you? It gets better every update but those Hasselblad cameras are truly game changing. The moon pictures are better than even the S23 Ultra. The only thing OnePlus hasn't released is a proper desktop mode. That's software. It can be added. So that means you only really have 2 semi valid points. It's tested for 5x the folds over Samsung. Samsung design is too thin when closed. Why not have both options instead of being pigeonholed into only one or the other forcing you to use the tiny outer screen & keyboard? OnePlus Open takes better pictures... It officially has the best cameras in the foldable market. Thanks for the clickbait. OnePlus still wins. This video hasn't aged well.

From your video, you haven't got your hands on a Oneplus Open yet? I have a Fold 5 now, and from all the reviews I've watched, I want one. I've always been a Oneplus fan, but the carriers always screwed up with dual sim. Now that carriers are left out, I Oneplus is out full force.

I have not got my hands on one. I watched other people's content who had got their hands on it and formed the opinion that my fold5 is still better overall and made a video. You've done the same thing, watched other people's content, but determined you would like it and wrote a comment on my video and then decided to buy it

I just received my Oneplus Open after not wanting to deal with Samsung customer service after my Fold 4 broke. i think your points are very valid and I'm actually considering going back to the Galaxy fold in a few years as my next phone if it gets thinner/lighter. i actually miss the thin front screen (easier one handed use), and the camera software is such a big difference (pics come out so much better on the Galaxy Fold). For wireless charging, i wonder if they left it out on purpose to have something to add to the next generation

I have the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 love it so much it easily replaced my Galaxy Z Fold 4, which I traded for the OnePlus Open. Having had all three of them, the Chinese foldable phones are light years beyond Samsung. They are wider, have better battery life, charge faster 80watt charger included with the Open and the Mix Fold 3 came with a 67watt charger in the box and it also charges 50 watt wirelessly. If you can't use your device without having to open it, it's no good. Oh and the crease on the OnePlus, which is a rebranded Oppo, is virtually non existent and the Xiaomi is only slightly more visible from certain angles, as opposed to Samsung's version of the Grand Canyon. I am sorry, but Samsung is not the king!

Personally I'm disappointed in both the OnePlus open / the Samsung fold 5. I've had the OnePlus 6t phone when it first came out and I was ready to do an upgrade and I was so looking forward for the Samsung phone but I was very excited when onePlus open came out but I was disappointed in no wireless charging. And I'm also disappointed in Samsung's phone as well. I love the Samsung design I just wish they had more care in screen. I don't like the camera on the one plus open. I'm currently having problems with my OnePlus 6t phone not charging correctly it's always a fight to charge it.. that's why I was hoping for charging wirelessly I'm going to miss my silent switch.

67w warp charging (80w car charger available) means no need for slow wireless charging. You can buy a wireless charger adapter if you want that slow ass charge speed. Charge the OnePlus once where it warp charges to 0-100% in 43 minutes and lasts all day... Maybe 2 days depending on usage.

I dont really think so bc I cant hold the phone while charging. A 5 min. charge on a 80W charger and I can keep going as normal again@@techwithbenefits

the only reason fold series can still hold sells just because their chinese competitors are kicked out by making protection just like EVs
