    I run a 391 with a 25 and just invested in a 661 running a 36. Hopefully the 661 works like I hope. Edit: The 661 is a beast. I've stopped using the 25 on the 391, and I use it on the 661 now. I've only bogged it down twice, pushing it pretty hard both times (definitely harder than I should've been). It also pulls the 36 no problem. I cut a ~32 inch wide hackberry with it, and it never had any trouble. Now I'm looking to get a 462 and 881!

    One word of advice when bucking up old wood on the ground a semi chisel chain will keep its edge longer- or grab yourself a stihl 2in1 file holder... sharpen your yellow chain very fast and keep your guides in check.

    I've had my FB for years and years. I love it and it has never let me down. I also have the 20" bar, but honestly, i think it would pull an 18" much better. It's a tad under powered for the 20", although it still pulls it pretty good. But for anyone who is really wondering from honest normal dudes, this is a great all around saw, and this review is legit.

    @@kellyronaghan5587 Read my comment again. It would pull an 18" bar better and does fine with the 20". But, when you put the full bar into hard wood (eg red oak) it struggles. That's my experience and it's a gracious plenty.

    I have the same saw, it is a good saw and works well... no question a much better choice for big wood and long hours over the ms250. The only thing I changed on my ms291 was to add the HD2 air filter and put on a rim sprocket. I put lots of hard hours on mine, never a problem, and for bucking I use the RS chain round ground full chisel, but semi chisel is a better choice if you work in dirty wood etc... also have the Stihl 2in 1 file h older for fast sharpening..

    What's the advantage of a rim sprocket?

  • @CowboyAxe

    @CowboyAxe

    5 жыл бұрын

    I threw chains before and a rim sprocket protects the chain drivers... on a spur it will damage them, on a rim it just lines up with the slots... and I am not sure but I find it smoother... if you want one order the one for the ms261. Oh yes cheaper too because you wear out a rim buy a new rim rather than a spur sprocket one piece.

  • @CowboyAxe

    @CowboyAxe

    5 жыл бұрын

    One other thing, you can adjust rim sprocket size for speed etc.. seven is fine most times, but if you want to play around you can throw on an eight, on a less important note.

    The first version ms291 had a different cylinder setup that was similar to the ms261 pro model, these newer ones have cylinders with plates glued in the sides of them. I have seen saws on ebay that after running only min hours have had a plate fall off. This plate falling off effectively junks the saw. Anyone reading this just spend 60 bucks more and get a ms261 saw instead, much more solid cylinder design that wont fall apart.

    18 inch stock bar and chain. I like running a 16'' bar though, the more I use them. I have a 16 inch bar on my 170 30cc, nice liming and great for bucking smaller rounds. I have an older Husqvarna 340 41cc with a 16 inch bar and its beastly.

    It's a good saw, but NON-adjustable oiler sucks big time!!!.....it's SO easy to burn up chains and Bars in Pine or Sap.....The MS290 is honestly better....adjustable Oiler, Parts are dirt cheap, and you can Literally bolt on a MS390 top End!! I will say though....the MS291 is way easier to start, and lighter. I got one, that had been sitting outside for 4 years...and it started Right up!!
