You have to be careful with the 4 stroke as there is two top dead center, you want the one when you move the fly wheel a bit the valves do not move. Go check Steve’s small engine saloon.

I am a stihl certified tech you are 100% correct on how to do that allso be careful when you put the new gasket on the cylinder there are little guides the gasket goes around and if it has over 15% blow by to clean the carbon out on a br430 there is a little mark on the flywheel

I’ve got an older km110r and the last time I had the valve cover off it look extremely clean, I’ve always been very good about maintenance and it’s been a very dependable trimmer, it did seize a valve once but that was quick and easy to fix, I run 32:1 mix and I have no issues with carbon, I do run it wide open frequently.

The 100rx I use at work seems kinda low on power. Idle is constantly different some days slow some a bit faster can’t get it turned down low enough for the head to stop turning without it sounding like it wants to die. It is at least a 8yrs unit and did have a new carb out on in 2017 also tune up, and valves adjusted, but as I can recall it only ran really good and properly for maybe 2 or 3 months by the next year it was acting similar to how i mentioned in beginning.

By saying make sure to adjust top dead center on the compression stroke not the intake by that do you mean in other words if I wiggle the flywheel back and forth the valves shouldn’t move at all? Then it’s on compression stroke if they move up n down it on the intake? That’s how I adjust adjust but did have issue with it not running that much different afterwords so I think it was because of not changing out the 2 sealing gaskets. Either that or that didn’t need adjusting I don’t think they need to done that often and Stihl doesn’t make it clear what all contributes to valves being out of adjustment.

I agree with MM1 ............ Why did you change your head ???? Bad valves ???? What gap did you set at ??? I see you are in the lawn care biz and you got some wrench's under your belt I assume......... Comp releases or a common failure on Briggs cams on the single's .... I haven't seen one in my shop on a Kawi 6 HP though... Most Kawi's we have down here are on EX MARK and the higher end Zero Turn mowers........ Here in South Louisiana we have mostly Briggs on push style mowers...... Kohler Dis Courages LOL are getting frequent in the shop now with all kinds of issues with the bolts loosening up and cracked blocks.... What is your Model number on your engine ?? FC 150V ??
