Use an old small paint brush to clean around your caps (pole saw, chainsaw, ect) before you take them off. If you want to do this job more comprehensively remove the top half of the gear case with gearhead chucked in vice by the limb hook. Tap the pump out the housing with a small flat punch. Install cleaned pump from the bottom and watch alignment of pump discharge port side. Clean, re-grease and re-seal gear box housing. Pretty easy job.

Great video as usual Jeremy. Got a similar little puller set up for pulling those pumps. I usually find they’re clogged with saw dust.

I use simple green at a 1-1 ratio and spray the head and redivide with it and rinse it off, takes less then a minute and won’t damage the rubber gasket and will clean it right up! I was surprised when someone told me about it! Better then brake clean and cleaner

If they made the oilers do what they’re supposed to do...they wouldn’t sell as many chains. Why would they want to possibly supply the best designed fully adjustable oiling system with sufficient flow in any condition? Husqvarna Rancher is notorious for oiling system issues.

The STIHL pump gear goes in and out as it spins. Maybe that’s how it pumps. Very clever. Good video

Great video and you are spot on with everything except (everything is filthy) you don't say how to check the action of the pump itself! As the gear (and plunger) is rotated on the end of the pump unit, it must go in and out slightly at the same time (8:36). This is what makes it pump the oil (sucks on one side, rotates 180 degrees and squirts out on opposite side orifice). I took my Stihl chainsaw apart today because it won't pump oil and found the plunger just spins, instead of oscillate in and out as well. This indicates the side pin that engages the cam groove on the plunger, has sheered off. So, I'll be ordering another on ebay in a minute. The part is too cheap to bother repairing.

How about 5 mm x 1.25. A regular Stihl muffler bolt. It is the same removal method you use for a Stihl ms 1180, 250, etc. this is why I hit the oil and gas caps on my saws with compressed air or a paint brush before I remove them. Can’t keep everything out but I can get rid of most of it. You have to make sure the output hole on the pump is properly aligned with the hole leading to the discharge port. It is the small hole in the side of the pump. The imput side is the slot in the end of the pump. I clean out the oil and gas tanks with break cleaner on my saws at least once a year with break cleaner and compressed air.
