#stfrancisxavier (1506-1552) #education is very important for every child because it socializes children into society by teaching values. Every parent wants to give best education for their children. You might have noticed that many #missionschool are around you, these schools are known for their discipline, dedication & commitment. I hope some of us might have come from these schools/colleges/#universities such as Loyola, St Xavier, St Francis etc. Let me share you a story behind the Society of jesus (Jesuits).
Jesuit movement was founded by St Ignatius of Loyola in AD 1540 along with his 6 companions. In church history it was Reformation time, if you can recollect Martine Luther nailed 95 Thesis on the church door in Wittenberg on 31st Oct 1517. Jesuits has played a critical role in the events of modern history from the Counter-Reformation to the secular involvement like establishing educational institutes.
St Francis Xavier one of the founders of the Jesuit order and a friend of Ignatius of Loyola, was born in kingdom of Navarre, present-day Spain. When King John III of Portugal asked Jesuits missionaries to work in his empire. St Francis Xavier left Rome and arrived in Goa, India, on May 6, 1542.
During his time in India, Xavier faced several challenges. For 7 years Francis preached in the streets and public squares, laboring tirelessly across India and the Asian Pacific islands, After transforming tens of thousands of lives in christ and planting many churchs in India. He travelled to Japan on his next mission. The Xavier first landed in Kagoshima in 1549 before moving to Hirado, spending a total of two years and three months in Japan preaching Christianity. Francis Xavier played a key role in the early spread of Christianity in the country. His missionary work included preaching in Hirado, where Christianity took deep root. Today Hirado is home to numerous historic churches, testifying to the enduring influence of Spanish and Portuguese missionaries.
Xavier's next missionary work was China. He traveled to Sancian Island, near Canton, Before he could find a way inside the country, illness incapacitated Xavier. He died in the island in AD 1552, at the age of 46, later his body was taken from island to Goa. Though he passed away at a relatively young age, In 10 years of his mission journey Xavier had accomplished much in his life. These are few thoughts, but you can find more about him.
What a courageous life!!!|
