Saint Bartholomew was one of the Twelve #apostles of Jesus Christ who was martyred in the 1st century AD. The site opposite to Maiden Tower, is believed to be where he was martyred for his faith, probably he was skinned alive then beheaded. It has become a focal point for the Orthodox Christianity in the region, where prayers and ceremonies are occasionally conducted in memory of Saint Bartholomew.
