    Guthrie at 5:17, casually removing the capo and debating where to put it while ripping through that solo, got me questioning my entire life right now not gonna lie

    for about 10 years i went on to shoot lfr pistol- championships and all. One day i was practicing and the stand was crowded. we were all prepin for finals- then one dude came on and screamed at the top of his lungs- why the heck the stand would be so full! That completely threw me off and got me right mad. Later on i went backstage wanting to go havoc on him for "disturbin my peace". My then tudor took me aside before i could jump into action- he said, no matter what happens during the shooting, you must always focus on what you are doing- right now. Be in the now- that effected me so tremendously over the years that litterally anything can happen whilst im doing something- I never loose focus again like i did then. Sometime when i practise bass or oud, i want to get through the phase of course. then i hit a bum note but instead of replaying i stick with it because my objective was to get through the phrase. i focus on good notes separateley. Does that make any sense at all? :D

    Thanks for your comment Goldfish, I'm still not convinced he's worthy of SW though. Personally out of the "technicians" I'm very much into the likes of Paul Waggoner or Steve Vai and Tosin Abasi, a lot more creative. I agree Guthrie is a good guitarist, but so are many.

  • @dennoow

    @dennoow

    Rene Steenvoorden They are good, but Guthrie's phrasing is out of this world. His timing, note choice and amazing ears make him into a far more interesting guitarist than Abasi, who is waaay more of a "technician". Govan's ability to improvise over anything he hears far surpasses that of Vai or Abasi. they are better composers though. There's something to be said for both. Bach was a brilliant composer; Charlie Parker an amazing improviser :)

    Guthrie playing for a serious band , with serious songs and serious lyrics is SOMETHING SERIOUS I mean. I like Erotic cakes, but a solo like this, in an epic song context, makes it 100000X more interesting and emotional to listen him. This is the perfect type of band for such monsters, where he has 2 minutes to shine, and, oh dude,I swear he does I can't compare this to The Aristocrats show I was at few years back, it was OK but it felt a bit like emotionless show-off gig of three talented guys with some cool moments, but no emotion , my opinion of course.This piece , in contrast, sends shivers through my spine. Guthrie needs some composer like Wilson, that just put the emotion, the feels, that totally shines without thinking what to play over a Gm7b5 chord. The magic pops up as you can see in this video.

  • @yvancluet8146

    +iorch82 Some of Erotic Cakes song are plenty of emotion i think. Eric, or Uncle Skunk, were the bomb. Plus some songs from the latest Aristocrats album (Tres Caballeros) are really full of emotions as well. Smuggler's corridor, 4/4 the whole time, only basic chords (Minor and Major, almost no 7th), really beautiful

Erase are Steven's best works and this lineup is a huge reason why.

    The watchmaker works all day, and long into the night He pieces things together despite his failing sight Though all the cogs connect with such poetic grace Time has left its curse upon this place Each hour becomes another empty space to fill Wasted with the care and virtues of his skill..... the Watchmaker metaphore which is deeply passionate of fine mechanics is so powerful and make us think deeply about the relationship between the artist and its creation which undergo the inevitable curse of time .... I can make a guess here which is " Entropy is a source of creation" ..........

    spiderbabybill No, that is not true. In fact, Chuck Norris doesn't a have right bicep, but two left biceps. He gave his right bicep to Guthrie (he was born without arms) before he get killed by an Air-Sharknado (obviously, he respawned a few days later). The left bicep of Guthrie it's from Leif Erikson's leg (ye, Leif Erikson's leg had a left bicep too). Abrazo.

One small suggestion is to go back and listen to Vivaldi, Bach and Beethoven and than listen to Schuman, List, Tchaikovsky, etc. Its OK to listen to others and use this as an inspiration +. As long as you are trying to make something individual..Again, Wilson is great and him/PT should come to NYC. Cheers

Schon was ganz Besonderes.

    Richard Aaron it's a mixed bag for me. Grace was good, Insurgentes was a bit better. This album is extraordinary, definitely better than the Incident, likely on par with Fear of a Blank Planet in terms of scope, although this work is more complex.

    Just as great Steven is at giving you a Audio experience, he is just as amazing at giving a visual experience. Behind him is a lot of lamps wich is pointing in different directions, so his shadow will be on the curtain. The curting is on the first half of the concert and then he the whole thing falls down, so you clearly can see Steven and his bandmates. :) Its a AMAZING experience. Been to 8 Steven concerts and every single one has been a unique experience. :) And as Cristian said. Go To Show!

    No way, both are equally good in their own context! Each one responds to a different feel and function in the music, in pt is really more direct so it can sound intense, in here nick does more atmospheric singing by doing it with the highs and on the background of the mix.
