Steve Vai Now We Run
• Steve Vai "Now We Run"
Steve Vai and the String Theories band perform the opening track "Now We Run" from the new DVD "Live In Minneapolis - Where The WIld Things Are".
The show was recorded and filmed at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, MN before a sold-out audience as part of Vais successful Sound Theories world tour.
Vai is widely known for both his unprecedented guitar playing techniques and the unique design of his signature series Ibanez Jem guitar. But his fans have become inextricably drawn to his melodic depth, and dynamic stage performance. The continued evolution of his craft is made apparent in the astonishing musicianship presented in "Live In Minneapolis - Where The Wild Things Are". The 2 hour and 40 minute set contains several new tracks and re-orchestrated pieces culled from his rich catalog. His guitar-wielding extravaganza in 'The Murder' is an artistic performance piece that must be seen to be believed.
The addition of virtuoso violinists Alex DePue and Ann Marie Calhoun add a dazzling dimension to Vai's compositions and stage show, delivering fans the unexpected edge they always expect. Other world-class musicians chosen for Vai's band are: Bryan Beller (bass), Jeremy Colson (drums), Dave Weiner (guitar and sitar) and Zack Wiesinger (lap steel).
"Live In Minneapolis - Where The Wild Things Are" is available on DVD, and audio CD on September 29th. Blu-ray on November 10.

"Who is this guy?". Well, he would be the best guitarist to ever walk on Earth. Facts. "Windows to the Soul" is my favorite Vai song. Give it a try (no live video worth anything unfortunately).

I remember an interview with one of the band members, where this female violinist Ann Marie Calhoun said that she had to work hard in order to learn to play the violin like a guitar. Obviously Steve teached her pretty well. :)

Steve Vai was taught to play by the one and only Joe Satriani, and since his early years as a guitarist he has shown the world that his talent is undeniable. Very nice Stuff Steve 👏🇦🇺👑

I saw this tour. The female violinist Ann Marie Calhoun , she was married to Brian Calhoun at the time who is a guitar builder in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. She is now married to Mike Eingzer the guitarist in Incubus. She is playing an acoustic violin & the other violinist is a French musician who's name i can't remember but he is playing an electric violin. Kinda like she is playing an acoustic guitar & he is playing an electric guitar. Steve taught them the parts he wanted them to play so they could seamlessly go from one player to another with a smooth flow. Steve can transcribe and write music notation for most instruments by ear which is how he got hired by Frank Zappa. He listened to and transcribed all of Zappas music for all instruments. An impressive feat cause Zappa liked to use odd time divisions that weren't used by many bands at the time. The cool part was that the 2 violins had very different tones so when you listen you can tell which violin player is playing.
