Lyrics "In The Wind":
Slippin into leather and my boots are too cool
Hair hanging into the night
A broken-in denim and a new tattoo
This is all I need in my life
My bike has got a scream like a killin’ machine
She’s like an animal ready to roar
My old lady got a body like a dirty dream and she’s a ready to hit the road.
And I got the world tonight in the palm of my hand
And I’m ready to live this life the only way I can
Take it to the limit…
In the Wind Ridin’ high
I’m in the wind tonight, all right
Free as a bird we’re on top of the world
I’m in the wind tonight
Yeah the boys are getting restless it’s a hot summer night
Somebodies lighting the fuse
You better be nice lest you’re lookin’ for a fight
And they got nothin’ to lose.
And we got the world tonight in the palm of our hand (I’m gonna’ ride)
And we’re gonna’ do it right, we’re gonna’ make a stand (1, 2, 3, 4)
In the Wind Ridin’ high
We’re in the wind tonight, all right
Free as a bird we’re on top of the world
We’re in the wind tonight.
In the Wind Ridin’ high
We’re in the wind tonight, all right
Take it to the limit gonna give it give it give it
We’re in the wind tonight
It feels so good, It feels so right
Come on baby, get in the wind with me tonight.
Hold on Baby, I’m gonna pop a wheelie!

Sounds a lot like a KISS song and the singer even reminds me of Paul Stanley. Great song!
You were right, Steve. He did have a great rock voice. I'm so sorry that you lost a good friend. This must be bittersweet for you. Thank you for sharing this with us all!

What's the story with Gash?

@@DaveDurango Johnny "Gash" Sombrotto. An avid biker who had a serious bike accident in '77 when he fell 30 feet-- on fire --into barb wire. He almost lost a leg and an arm, in addition to excruciating skin grafts on 60% of his body. But he came through intact. He and Vai collaborated on this record in 1993. Gash later died in a bike accident on 9/7/98, so Vai shelved the project until now. Dude had a great voice. RIP

This is 30 years old, it was recorded when he was making an album with his friend gash who died during the process and they decided to release it this year. No wonder it sounds old.

Indeed!
"Vai/Gash is a collaboration album of Steve Vai and Johnny "Gash" Sombretto, recorded in the 90s. The recordings sat on the shelf for 30 years, and they are finally seeing the light of day! Around 1990 Steve immersed himself into riding motorcycles and biker culture, which led him with a desire to record a straight ahead rock album. Through a friend he met Johnny "Gash" Sombretto. Gash was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, who was severely scarred after an accident at the age of 21. Steve and Gash hit it off immediately. Steve got Gash to sing over these biker type songs he wrote, and nothing prepared him for the voice that came out of Gash's mouth. This was the voice he wanted to hear wailing over these slamming rock tracks. Despite Steve's other musical projects at the time, like Sex & Religion, there were always plans to release this record. But if wasn't to be. In September 1998, Steve's phone rang, and John's girlfriend told him that John was in a bike accident and killed. Disheartened, Steve put the entire project on a shelf, and moved on to other projects. After three decades, the album will be out, as a tribute to what would definitely have been one of the greatest lead rock singers." mailchi.mp/mascotlabelgroup/steve-vai-announces-archive-release-vai-gash-10184734?e=79fe4405ce

Fantastic ! Incredible voice and song ! Good old rock'n'roll from the 80/90's. I miss this period. Thanks Steve.
Steve, Thanks for dusting this off and making it sound like it was done yesterday. John was a great friend of mine dating back to the 1970's. In fact I invited him out to California in the 80's and he never looked back. Brother Joe followed shortly after. He was funny as the day is long and not one to mince words when he was in a teasing mood.....and tease he could. I am proud to see and hear what you have done here and I know he is too. Thanks again, JP Lawless

Rarely do I hear Vai play a straight ahead blues based rock solo. But when he does, it's amazing!

I've been riding in the wind for 40 years and look forward to this song. Thanks Steve!...🎸
Great song. Sorry your friend was lost Steve. His voice is great. This world needs some good feeling rocking music more than ever! Thank you for sharing.
what an amazing singer! It reminds me Graham Bonnet on his prime years
When I was 18 I went to Hollywood... all I wanted to do was meet Vai. On my last day I stopped by Tower Records and I heard a rumble and yes there he was on a Harley and parked right next to me. Same time frame as this song. It was the greatest gift. He got off and took a picture with me and was a saint. In that same parking lot I would have some of the biggest posters above Sunset Blvd, from my movies. Fast and Furious etc... Thank you Steve for walking this earth. I love you buddy. I forgot... Steve bought Ry Cooder and Michael Hedges albums that day.

His memory will survive thanks to you Steve Vai. He's got an electric hard rocky voice which goes well for the metal rock and this piece of music ! What a tragic story and destiny of this rock singer... Life hangs by a thread...
I think it’s TOTALLY AWESOME that both Steve and Joe Satriani have been honoring departed friends through their works ( Joe released The Squares disc last year celebrating the late Andy Milton ). Great song here!
Thanks for the 80',s vibe. Love from Belgrade ❤❤❤❤
Sounds kind of like Graham Bonnett...(in a great way....I loved your Alcatrazz stuff and still have the vinyl). Crazily, that fantastic guitar solo doesn't sound like your typical style. Really cool incognito Vai guitar stuff....fantastic classic rock gem!
Oh dear this video makes me wanna go back in time and ride my shovelhead with no particular place to go, just easy rider. Good times, Steve! 🙏
I've been a fan of yours since Alcatrazz.....You always deliver! No matter what endeavor!!! VAIIAV FOREEROF EVER
Steve, I don't know if you'll ever read this but I pray to the rock gods every day that you come to Toronto Canada! Thousands of us miss you here! Please please please 🥺🙏

@@StevenSiroVai1 I am glued to my screen! I seen all those european dates wondering where the Canada dates were. Thank you so much for being one of my greatest musical inspirations. I have a bright pink Jem JR hanging on my wall that I dare not use because it means so much more to me than my dirty fingerprints. I even bought one of your stage used picks on eBay and I use that with my RG450! One day Ill get your autograph. Thanks Steve!!
Kiss sound with AC/DC solo vibe in my ears. Love it! 👍
I would NEVER have considered it possible for Steve Vai to strip back his music to this extent!?!!? even the solo wasn't flamboyant. I think thats the thing that impresses me most about this,.. along with that dudes voice. Pretty impressed right now.
I had never heard of John, but I'm sorry you lost a friend. This was a cool change for you and it's got a throwback sound that rocks. Thanks for the release, Steve.
R.i.P. Gash. Thank you Steve for this tribute!

Your are right again. Thanks for releasing. Reminds me of Graham Bonnet, I love it.
Oh yeah Live The Rock
When I saw the time of this video I immediately figured out that this is gonna be some melodic more traditional piece with 80´s hard rock/hair metal tendencies. It really is.
Yes! Loving this.
This goes instantly into the pantheon of great motorcycle songs! What a voice! And that fiddle player ain't bad either!
What a great production of a Superb ROCK SOUND....
