Iconic guitarist Steve Morse took time to chat with me recently over a period of three days! Steve has had an incredible career, as a solo artists with his own band, Steve Morse Band, to leading Rock/Country/Fusion band The Dixie Dregs. He has written, recording and toured with Kansas, Living Loud, Flying Colours and Rock Legends Deep Purple. In this first part of the interview, Steve discusses the new Deep Purple Album, "Turning To Crime", and how the band adapted these classic cover tunes with the unmistakable sound of Deep Purple. He also discusses how this album was put together during lockdown. Steve also discusses his iconic Music Man series of guitars, as well as his Engl based rig. Stay tuned for part 2!!

Let me tell you all something about STEVE MORSE. We spent all afternoon and evening with him at Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp. At lunch he went around the tent and thanked every single person that was there for coming. He then sat down and we had a 1 hour Q&A where he told us about his life and answered questions. Not only is he one of the most talented guitarist who ever lived, but he is also the most humble, kind, and generous professional musicians you can meet. When we played together, he would let us do whatever solos we wanted and he would fill in the rest. At the end of our song , we went around again and all the guitarists got equal time to solo some more. He was smiling and having a great time with each band. He was truly enjoying himself. That evening we played out at the Hard Rock and he was the exact same- didn't matter if there was an audience or not. What and absolute gentleman!!

My memory of Steve is not the typical first experience. I was assisting with FOH at a venue where "The Trio" were featured (McLaughlin, Dimeola and de Lucia) and Steve opened the show with a beautiful classical guitar set. I personally was most impressed by Steve.

Cool! Steve volunteered to do "what he would be good at." Which would be anything and everything.
29:47! Yes I had a progression I could just barely play, the drummer (who had an actual musical education) said that’s cool now transpose to the 4th to add movement to the verses. It took me 2 weeks to learn to play it in a different position 🤣 Can’t wait for pt2 🤘🏽
Would be so cool to get Ty Tabor interview
