There has yet to be an equal to the King of Late Night TV. Johnny Carson was the best.

He knew the famous from a kid in the midwest. Was xharming and once he was in 6 7 years he knew his guests. His best was being able to make common folj be at ease. They were nervous and he would just use his country small town upbrining use a example to let these people feel at ease. His interview with the 93yr old Illionois farmer is just down to earth.

That "cow pasture shuffle" had me chuckling. LOL

this is when Steve was at his best! loved his special from same time period.. juggling oranges and drops them... Far away!!!!

The best time of my life! I miss this all so much. ❤

Once...the Tonight Show was great!!!

If you haven't seen the movie The Jerk I recommend it. Steve Martin is a wild and crazy guy in it.

This was essentially a glimpse of Dave Letterman’s Late Show before it existed.

His 77th birthday was yesterday, August 14, 2022.

only 27 here and you can see his hair starting to go grey already..

So cool to watch this early appearance by Steve Martin!

One of my favorite bits!

My husband,was from Brooklyn..I am from Georgia ..Plus my husband Jewish..Of course being southern.We add three or four extra vowels.And our world are long.Our friends,loved to be with us.I love him so much,he passed away in 2004..We had the most fun..Love this show!

If that Steve Martin dude keeps practicing he might be somebody famous in the future.

Does anyone remember when Steve Martin did a slow-motion card trick for Johnny Carson that included him ripping the cards then using scotch tape to put them back together in slow-motion? It was hilarious, but we can´t find it anywhere.

Think sometimes it is hard for us to think of this situation as their own current moment in the timeline. In 50 years people will probably be looking at videos from 2020´s and wondering how different we look compared to their own currrent moment in time.

Steve Martin with dark hair? This has to be like the very early 70s

Because it wasn’t funny. For the most part Steve Martin has never been funny. He’s a damn decent actor and musician, but his comedic talent leaves a lot to be desired.

I understand that now Steve only does card tricks in the building he is in at the moment. A cockadoodle got that joke. He didn't laugh but he got it. Then he walked away and puked.

@SpinDasher91 Do tapes of his earliest shows exist? I remember Johnny lamenting one night that someone had destroyed or taped over some of the early ones. He was not happy!

This is hilarious, if you can appreciate the absurdist style. It isn’t standup joke comedy.

I really like Steve Martin but this was awful! I guess it’s just old but then again The Three Stooges still get me laughing hard!

Steve Martin is absurdity. He is the anti-joke. He's The Goonies & Monty Python rolled into Turtle Boy. Hell if he failed on the Tonight Show he'd have made a fine rag picker behind the supermarket. If you don't get it, that's the way he wants it! Seriously, can you imagine going on Carson's Tonight Show with nothing but 4 loaner dogs and a deck of cards? That's the grift!
