One of the BEST lines I’ve heard out of Luke was his take on todays music. He said something along the lines of, “if you took away the pro tools, the backing tracks, and the dancers most of them would sound like they were in their first night in prison.” Hahaha.

It is hard to imagine that there is a musician out there who has more experience in that "job" than Steve Lukather. besides of all his stories, I admire Steve as a guitar player and musician. I guess, most of all guys who play guitar simply love his guitar playing. isn't it so? you can learn from Luke simply by listening to his stuff. because he is so accurate and clean and on spot and so amazing. also his different sounds. I mean even Eddie said he is the greatest player, playing in the best band.

So a couple of interesting stories to add onto these. I grew up in the Minneapolis area and while “Purple Rain” was filming my sister was working at a local Holiday Inn where some of the cast and crew from the movie were staying. Prince would come by occasionally and roar up and down the hallways of the hotel on the purple motorcycle that Luke mentioned in his story. Suffice to say Holiday Inn management was not impressed……😂 The second involves the Prince bodyguard that Luke mentioned. This guy would occasionally come into the Sears store where I worked as a college kid and every time he did it was quite the scene! As Luke described, the guy was HUGE and had this mane of very distinctive white hair. Whenever he came into the store, everybody would literally stop what they were doing and stare, for one because of his huge size and also because he carried himself in such a way that it was almost as if the circus was coming to town! From what I remember, he was always accompanied by an entourage that I assumed was his family - a wife and two teenaged daughters. Now all three of these girls were attractive and equally distinctive in appearance as their father, and I was always very careful not to get caught checking out his daughters lest he take it the wrong way…….😂 The one thing always struck me about this guy was that although he was incredibly flamboyant and very intimidating in appearance, when you would check him out at the till he actually was very quiet and soft spoken - a very strange dichotomy between personality and appearance!

He was just studying Lukather, Prince was totally focused on improving as a musician and a star. If he had just focused on guitar, he would’ve been a better guitarist at that point but he was trying to do everything (write, produce, play all the instruments, dance, sing, be a front man). It takes a lot of energy and focus. And yeah musicians have ego and it’s competitive.

RESPECTFUL I went through this in my teenage years and even 20's later to learn about the things female would say like weird and stuck up...only later in my life. When I grew into my self becoming comfortable enough to not care about what people thought about me or my style of life. Manly I know that it was JEALOUSY because my parents give me everything enough to my my younger year an even my 20's college years comfortable successful.
