Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme and Ethel Merman
Ойын-сауық
Steve and Eydie did this great television special with Ethel Merman about Cole Porter - Steve & Eydie: From This Moment On... Cole Porter (1977). It's seen here with some other various Steve and Eydie performances we found on old VHS tapes

Having corresponded with Steve he like us truly recognised the magic & greatness of his wife’s voice. When Eydie opened up your troubles took a back seat transporting you to a world of sheer pure entertainment.
Leslie Townes British -born ...better known as Bob Hope, comedian, actor, entertainer a career that spanned 80 years...
From a bygone era. Such great composers for music and the singers that do justice to the songs. Never again to hear such beautiful music.
Absolutely fantastic. Awesome Ethel Merman ❤️
Thank heavens we still have access to great music talent and sophistication Steve and edye are the best
This is one of the best musical TV specials of its era. The concepts of the big production numbers are absolutely right for Porter's music. The lush orchestrations bring Cole Porter's music to new romantic heights and the singing throughout is superb. (I mean, you got Eydie, Steve, Bob, and the great Ethel Merman - of course the singing is superb.) How great it is to have Ethel Merman singing MAKE IT ANOTHER OLD FASHIONED as if it's a brand new song. The highlight, for me, of the entire special is Steve, Bob and Ethel singing IT'S DELOVELY. What a sweet sequence. I get a chill down my spine when Ethel comes walking down the aisle and throws her coat into the seats, ready to take the number to new heights.
Outstanding.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great show.. thoroughly enjoyed it.
huge regret.....never seeing "STEVE & EYDIE"....in my heaven, on Sunday evenings, after dinner....Steve and Eydie perform....
Delovely wonderful memories to reflect upon every once in awhile❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Greatly enjoyed "From This moment On." Ethel Merman's voice was as strong as ever. Eydie Gorme looked lovely and hearing her is always a pleasure. But it was her early clips following the show that entranced me. I couldn't turn away; Gorme was monarch and I sat immobilized --- an unwilling but enraptured subject. Marvelous artist.
Wow! I can’t believe I didn’t know about this special! You made my evening. Love Ethel, and like the others. Thanks for posting!

Our Pleasure!
Steve and Eydie what a magical combination! Just wanted to get that out of the way. This production is first rate and timeless and authentic. The concept was handled with adult perfection and could compete with anything produced today. The history provided via Merman/Hope is priceless. The elegant sets, costumes and the simple seamless choreography is Perfect. Tv specials around this period followed a tried and true formula: Star, usually 2 guests. One guest to attract younger audience and one more established guest. Writen contemporary forced jokes (dated) . One production number. The star singing a medley of their hits. This formula worked. However this special was well thought out and executed. Well above the usual fare. Barbra 's specials and the Judy, Frank,Dean special are two that come to mind. However there is nothing to compare with the respectful love that radiates from watching these two talented professionals.
Ooh, this is cool !❤

@@walterhellmuth7364 I met Steve Lawrence with my partner that interviewed him for radio in the 70s. He was on the Tonight Show and Steve Allen was hosting filling in for Johnny. That was back in hey day. A great experience. One of the best! Sorry that era is pretty much gone. I am glad we have so much of it on video these days though.

I wrote a book a few years back and Cole Porter is in the Book, Painters, 1920’s fun stuff. I love singing Cole Porter songs as well. The background singers sung for an adult movie called The Education of Misty Beethoven 😅
My goodness! I’ve had the CD of this performance since it was first released, but I don’t remember seeing the video. How special this Saturday afternoon has become.

Excellent 🎉🎉🎉
in the late 60's Steve & Eydie did a show called "What It Was Was Love" songs by Gordon Jenkins. It was broadcast on The Kraft Music Hall. I have the vinyl record. Has anyone come across a copy of this show ? It was really terrific.

This TV special called “From This Moment On: The Music of Cole Porter" was aired on March 10,1977. Do you know if they were singing live?

Looking at it we would say that they are singing live. It totally reads as live with no switch over to a canned vocal perceivable to our ears.
I wonder if this is the only footage of Ethel Merman and Bob Hope recreating It’s Delovely?

I cannot find even a recording of Bob Hope singing anything from this musical other than what you see here. There was no studio record made back then and he has not revisited these songs anywhere else. Its a crime we don't see more of Ethel and Bob performing this together like they did in the show. @@patnstephen2

@@noahslantly6455Thanks. You know, I don't even remember writing the comment or viewing the video, but looking at it again, I agree with myself! I'll try to seek out "Madam." I've heard parts of it before. You don't have these kind of Broadway stars anymore. Loads of talented people around, absolutely, but not with this kind of long career that people across the U.S. knew about, not just in New York.
