You clearly never saw Steve Bruce play then because he was solid

That’s what happens when you have a back line that is all right footed. A left back that can’t get forward on the overlap to provide width because they don’t have a left foot. A left winger who doesn’t have the pace to get to the end line around a right back and isn’t a right footed inverted player. A right back who is very pacy but lacks attacking nuance. A 6 in Rice who doesn’t dictate play. A 9 in Kane who has lost his legs. A 10 in Bellingham who should be playing as a box to box 8. The fact that most fans can clearly see problems like this while the manager can’t isn’t even alarming anymore. I just expect it at this point

Have you forgotten how England couldn’t get out of their own half against Serbia and Denmark. Theyre not magically going to play better against stronger opposition. The midfield has been a shambles and Southgate needs to sort it out. Mainoo was a huge improvement.

Do the players trust the manager to get the team selection and tactics right ? If not, then England are doomed to fail in this tournament

All last 16 teams play better than England.

The 09-12 Barcelona and the 17-20 ManCity were slow build up teams. England is still too direct. They choose to shoot in situations that they should have instead pass or dribble more until a bigger opportunity occurs.

That Barcelona team had Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets, some if not the best ball-playing possession based players. Foden is the only English player close to that level.

I just don't understand why Southgate didn't call up some 18-stone troglodyte from the non-leagues, fit him with a lead-lined, tungsten-capped hobnail boot (just like the old 'horseshoe in the boxing glove' trick) Stick him in a number 8 shirt then get the wingers to cut it back to him whereupon he smacks the ball in the general direction of the opposition's goal. Even if the keeper saves it, he'll be stretchered off with multiple compound fractures, thus weakening the opposition and eventually depleting their subs bench
