Herb is a treasure. Perfectly stated on describing going from time listening to horns to box speakers. “Went back and listened to my harbeths and it sounds like they have blankets over them.” Sadly true - my old man has cornwalls. After listening there and I come home to box speakers... it takes at least two days for me not to be underwhelmed. Herbs way of taking a sensory experience and putting it to words is the best in the business. Another herbism that resonates is comparing the sound of class D amp to the hyper-edge of cocaine and pure class A to the high detail, present, high contrast but total calm of mushrooms. It’s a perfect description. Herb I hope these comments find you. Ken these videos are great. Love having other audiophiles share their taste in music, gear, and everything else. I look forward to your channel more than ever before.

For someone I’ve never met, but feel as if I kind of know anyway, it seems safe to say that Herb is just a legendary character. His artwork, views towards music and HiFi, story telling, and the way he sees and looks at life are up there with all of the true great artists of our time and beyond. It’s almost as if he’s a multi dimensional being on a different wave length. He seems to be a top notch person, and we are all fortunate to know of the great Herb Reichert. Thank you very much, Ken.

I think Ken needs to organize the most fantastic music and adult beverage party ever with an invite list chock full of guys like Herb. I just want to be a fly on the wall and soak in the vibe, history, and amazing perspectives.

Talk about a cliffhanger! Looking forward to part 2. You're right, Ken--along with yourself that is quite a rogues' gallery of audio writers. I've said it before, Herb is my favorite kind of intellectual. I love his writing, even though much of it is way over my head. Videos he has done and folks have done of him are just a gas.

His articles on audiostream (iirc), especially on Loudspeakers is a great read.. He bridges the current mainstream high end and the sensibility of the more niche burgeoning diy audio scene that started some decades back..

When everyone was sound asleep, your friends’ dads-to the man-put away the smoking jacket and silk slippers, took Chet Baker and the Modern Jazz Quartet albums and replaced them on the shelf and reached behind the couch where he kept hidden his Art Ensemble of Chicago, Albert Ayler, and Sun Ra albums!

Great stuff, Ken! I’d love to hear you and Herb once a month! P.S. Is that Steve Guttenberg sitting with Herb at 1:06? Boy howdy! None of us are getting any younger, are we? Ciao for now! ❤️ P.P.S. It turns out Herb and I are the same age, “seventeen in 1968,” except it took me another 30 years to get to San Francisco! Darn!

Funny how our tastes change over time. I mentioned that to a famous clarinetist and he said "Well, you've graduated. Your taste has improved." Ah.

Nice to see some of the people you work with Ken. You make them sound like really good people. Relax Herb all you need to remember is Album titles. No one remembers everything about Jazz music. You can read the back of an album. I say thank goodness for Wikipedia. In the Jazz world that site has helped me out a lot. Herb has just admitted to stealing records! (Someone dial 911 please). Talk of Chess Records remind me of this film.-kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWiHuamDmrOfqqw.html Talk of the Stones reminds me of this film.- kzread.info/dash/bejne/nYmgqKeSiraXg7A.html Herb is an interesting man. This seems to be the start of a very good interview. so glad you cut this down into 3 videos. Now it is past midnight for me but I did not want to be very far behind with your videos Ken. Thank you for making all these wonderful videos. My (Jazz) cat is asleep so I should climb the wooden hill to bed. Good night.

Here is something weird. You look just like a younger version of my grandfather. My late mother’s father who passed many years ago and guess what his name was! Herbert Reichert. I am not making this up.
