    I love these classic Speakers. Sounds great. I have Xcite X old series for about 5 years . Still make very dynamic sounds . But I am thinking of a slight upgrade !! Love the heritage 40 series!!

    I think your review is spot on! These are a nice well defined sound. As far as low end, small stero subs would solve even the most critical listener. Thanks for doing a book shelf, it shows that a price point tower is not always the best answer.

    Thomas ... love your reviews. Am in the midst of upgrading my system. I’ve got a small-medium sized room and have narrowed down my choices to Harbeth P3ESR 40th and this Focus 160. I like clarity with a tight warm low end. Am into music that focus more on vocals/instruments such as your first 2 tracks. Which speaker would you recommend? Harbeth or the Dynaudio? Thanks.

    Depends if you are using a sub or not. With out a sub, the Dyn will be better. I actually only heard the Harbeth P3ESR and not the 40th. Harbeth mid range has it's charm but for bass, I wish to have a bit more. Also, take a look at my S300 review.

    Have you compared them with their presumably active version - the 200xd? I'm trying to simplify my system and 200xd would be a lot easier to use. Thank you Thomas and I really enjoy watching your videos!

    Thanks for the feedback. The 200xd is super expensive and I never hear it before. I would like to but only if I come across it cheap.

    Really nice sounding speakers. I used my Audio Technica headphone to really appreciate the sound stage. What is your take about the difference between the dome and ribbon type tweeter?

  • @ThomasAndStereo

    @ThomasAndStereo

    6 жыл бұрын

    I only have one experience with Ribbon and it's my GX300, very bright but very fast. My experience with the Raidho D3 however was very smooth. I would say stay with Soft dome, easier to deal with.

    I appreciate your shared observation. I've long have noticed that from ribbon type tweeter being to bright same as the metal dome like in LS50. Will surely try the soft dome next time. Thanks.

    Hi Thomas! Do you think I should choose Focus 200XD over the new Xeo 20 in terms of pure sound quality? I also considering Acoustic Energy AE1 Active which are much cheaper

    I think a lot of manufacturer buy from other manufacturer and rebrand it as their own. I think Dynaudio makes their own drivers so it is possible swan buys from them?

    I just cannot tell with the recording, it seems rushed somehow. Usually that means bad power or very low grade cables maybe ? I have the Dynaudio Excite X12's running off el34's and i'm pretty sure they might be better. Probably just the recording.

  • @ThomasAndStereo

    @ThomasAndStereo

    I think it's most likely the recording, the system is driven wit over $12k of equipment, just the cables are over $2k new.

    What phenomenon of physics allows low-grade cables to speed up a recording? That would imply that wire has a function of gain, and other absurd super powers. The studio that recorded the music likely used simple AWG 12 that looks like romex house wiring. And how does lowering the power speed anything up? Maybe on bizarro world.

    When I first made bigger improvements to my system years ago I realized that the better it sounded the slower the music became to me. This is a phenomenon that a lot of audiophiles will relate to. Also is a locked in place in the chair sensation such that you feel you cannot move.

  • @ThomasAndStereo

    I understand where you are coming from but if you want to talk in audiophile language, then you have to be here listening to it than over the internet. The world you are talking about, my more sophisticated audiophile friend can relate to but it means you are REALLY listening. No youtube clip can capture the magic of what a perfect sygnergesitc system can convey. The best you can do with a youtube clip is to have a relative idea of the tonality.

    전혀 놀라운 소리가 아닌데... 이정도는 흔히 들을수 있는 사운드 수준인데... 녹음이 잘 못 됐나? 치칠음도 엄청 심하고..이 영상 음질로는 탁월한 사운드가 아님.

    With the orchestra, it seems like these speakers lose entirely the soundstage quality and performance. Mids and highs are horrible in the 3rd clip. It looks as if these speakers can't handle classical music which is more demanding than just a guitar and a vocal.
