UFC Fight Night: MacDonald vs. Thompson (also known as UFC Fight Night 89) was a mixed martial arts event held on June 18, 2016, at TD Place Arena in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
The event was the first that the promotion hosted in Ottawa.
The card was headlined by a welterweight bout between former UFC Welterweight Championship challenger Rory MacDonald and five-time kickboxing world champion Stephen Thompson.
Thompson won the fight via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, and 48-47).

Who doesn't like Thompson, right? Rory is a beast himself, you'll never convince me that Roby Lawler wasn't on some shit like PCP when he fought Rory and won

Im a little biased because I was lucky enough to see it live but id have to say his fight against Luque on the BMF card was if not his best definitely one of them. His most recent fight against Holland was a masterclass as well.

@@jacobsaunders1092 that was an amazing fight but Wonderboy almost got knocked out in the first round, definitely wasn't his "best" performance of his career. Most entertaining fight, yea probably. I would say his "best" performance was either this fight against Rory, Hendricks, or the Luque bout

Even if macdonald never fought lawler Wboy i still think was gonna win this fight on the feet,his abilty to strike ,kick,create angles n distance and adapt his karate to a mixed martial arts sport like the UFC has been amazing to watch,anyone ever see his karate days record? 90 something and 2 with 70 some finishes i think
I have never seen somebody dominate Rory MacDonald yhat way (especially in striking). Props to both fighters. I guess when you have great takedown offense with a little Jiu Jitsu and basic wrestling knowledge on top of being a phenomenal lifetime Karate Competitor you get a killer.

He did actually show better striking defense in this fight compared to the Lawler fight where he basically said fuck it either I win or I die.
O Thompson era tão habilidoso, eu acho que faltou a ele para ser mais relevante e campeão, foi ele ser passado no fogo assim como foi o Karateca Lyoto, só acho .
