UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones was a mixed martial arts pay-per-view event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on March 19, 2011, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Immediately after the bout with Bader, it was revealed that title contender and Jones's training partner Rashad Evans had sustained a knee injury in training, and would not be able to compete in his scheduled match with UFC light heavyweight champion Maurício "Shogun" Rua. Jones was told by Joe Rogan in the post-fight interview that he would replace Evans in the fight for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship
After an early flying knee that badly hurt the champion, Shogun was dominated throughout the three rounds. A body shot and knee to the head dropped the champion to his knees, causing the referee to step in and halt the match. Jones defeated Rua by TKO at 2:37 of Round 3, becoming the youngest-ever UFC champion.

In MMA there are certain sets of skills that you can learn, practice, and improve over time, but there are also certain qualities and attributes that you're just born with. Jon Jones is the perfect mix off all these attributes; high level striking, wrestling, take down defense, ect. But also an unbelievably gifted natural athlete, like professional (nfl, nba) level athlete with the perfect body type for fighting. Wing span of a pterodactyl. Dude is an apex predator.

Young Jon Jones is the GOAT of MMA, at least for me. The new Jones is much more cautious, smart and neutralizes his opponents. Of course, I don’t mind but he isn’t that hungry anymore. Young Jones was more sociopathic and wanted to beat his opponents rather than just win. But that’s just my opinions. PEDS or not, he’s still a talent.
I saw what Shogun did to Rampage in pride then watched this. My goodness Jones is a handful especially in his prime

3:20. Only Jon Jones could make his fighting debut at 3 months. He didnt like his mother trying to teach him to walk, he had to show her that spinning elbow
Shogun was TAPPING at the end without a submission LOL. Never seen something like that. Man really had enough of it.
Shogun was saved by the bell twice and had Jones' back twice and didn't know how to take advantage of the opportunity. I found them both very lethargic. It looked like a pretty tough fight.
Jones always looked good fighting smaller guys. Then when bigger LHWs came along he looked much more average.
Let's see this Jon Jones against Gane... Unleash the Beast one more time!!!
If there is a fight that you can describe as a masterclass onesided clinic thats it.Jones was inhuman on this one.

I hate this fight because Shogun was one of my favorite fighters. Jon Jones is a living legend man. Dude is so talented.
I like Khabib, and GSP, and Silva..but how can anyone measure up to the arsenal Jones has? The guy had the striking of Silva, wrestling of GSP, weight awareness of and ground game of Khabib. Except for the lack of KO power, Jones has everything every fighter dreams to have.

Not to mention being the first UFC fighter and LHW champion to finish Rampage Jackson Inside the octagon In his prime at 100%, and the 3rd fighter In history to finish Rampage In his professional MMA career along with MMA legends such as Kazushi Sakuraba and Wanderlei Silva. When breaking It down like that It's very understandable why a literal Four-time U.S. World Team member, Five-time U.S. Nationals champion, 2003 Pan American Games gold medalist, and a two division UFC champion like Daniel Cormier would've understood that Jon could've still beaten him even without steroids, at his core Jon truly has a gift of destiny from god as Khabibs father (RIP). Jon Jones Is undoubtedly the GOAT, as much he's had his demons, flaws, and numerous set backs, however that doesn't change what he's accomplished, not to mention so other sports legends or polarizing sports figures have sinned as much as Jon has such as Mike Tyson, Lance Armstrong, Michael Jordan, etc. they've all had to deal with humility, before becoming men. And so without Jons demons, It's clear to see that Jon wouldn't be as great as he Is now and he wouldn't have Inspired fans like me to become a huge fan of MMA as much as I have now. And for that I thank him. Because truth be told, no amount of steroids or any substance of drugs are going to help achieve this level greatness. PERIOD.
