At the risk of sounding heartless, I really have never bought the whole mental health excuse from Simmons. I think he was so embarrased at how his Philly tenure ended that he just lost the passion for basketball. I dont question the legitimacy of the back injury but I think it is fair to ask is Ben doing everything he can to get back on the court or does he view basketball simply a means to earn a paycheck with as minimal work as possible

Who cares what you question. If you bothered to google you'd learn Simmons mental health struggles were little to do with hooping but very significant. Cant imagine how anyone would feel to receive the amount of hate he received because he had mental health challenges and a significant back injury. He hasn't lost the his passion for hooping. He spent Feb through to Oct working 6+ hours a day to recover. That's a huge commitment because he loves to hoop. If he wasn't working hard on rehab it would be a breach of his contract. I do think he lost his passion for bball and is only sticking around for the check. So I agree with you there. I also do think he has an anxiety problem though. As someone who has it, I can tell. Same goes for Zach Wilson and Markelle Fultz. Particularly in northeast market, some of these guys psychologically can't handle it. Difference with Ben is it doesn't seem to be just that.

Prior to the draft there were major concerns about his motor and lack of motivation. Simmons and his people downplayed it saying he took his foot of the gas in college to save himself for the league. Many scouts warned the league about him, and they were right. Who knew?

It’s degenerative disc disease, leading to chronic nerve impingement symptoms. He’s had surgery to relieve the narrowing, but he’s an NBA player and subjects his back to lots of compressive force throughout the season. This is going to happen again

He might end up being the most disappointing number 1 pick of all time. His ceiling is Lebron, with his floor being Giannis. That’s how much physical potential Ben Simmons has. He’s a 6’10, 230 pound PG that can pass, defend, is fast, athletic, and can guard all positions. It’s not even that he’s a bad shooter, his brain won’t let him shoot. If he could devote himself to the game and get out of his own head, he could be the best player in the league. That’s why it’s sad and frustrating seeing things play out this way. He should be dominating.

If you're legitimately clinically depressed, you lose interest in almost everything. You won't care about money or anything else or even want to get out of bed. A guy who claims that but still is trying to wring all his money out is not to be trusted.

At this point, I am convinced that Ben Simmons has somatoform disorder. This is when your mind becomes extremely stressed that you start having symptoms of physical illness. We saw it happen right in front of our eyes. Ben developed a phobia about shooting the basketball during NBA games. This phobia cost his team a real chance at an NBA Finals appearance. The World came down on him, and suddenly, he started having physical illnesses severe enough to prevent him from playing NBA basketball.

the crazy thing is that Ben literally has a back issue, MRI's has proven that fact, but for some reason the media won't except it, they throw out a lot of rec spec because he doesn't talk to them, and as someone who has and still deals with back issues you never know what's it's gonna be like day to day surgery or not, and they act like they've never seen this before, Steve Nash and Dwight Howard's career's drastically changed once their backs started acting up this is not new.

People would stop talking if they felt like there was a genuine effort by Ben to get back on the court. Im sure he does have a bad back, but sometimes you have to play through pain. Seems like the first sign of any pain or discomfort for him and he's out for months. Doesn't seem like he does everything possible to get back out there. If he can't play at all they should get rid of him

That may be but all offseason long he was showing us on social media how much work he was putting in and how this was going to be his comeback season but we have seen diddly squat so far
