UCLA exposed Gonzaga’s inability to play defense. Baylor finished the job by holding down the paint, shooting spectacularly and locking down Gonzaga’s Perimeter shooters.

Teague had a guiet 19pts, played hella defense on suggs, rebounded and got mad handles. Butler had 22 and did his thing. Vital was a monster and he isn't a center but played like one. Mitchell got them going and his defensive skills and handles are second to none. Tatcthoua was in beast mode. Phagler hit some crucial 3's and Mayer held his job down. Thamba made Timme and Kispert non factors. Jalen Suggs was exposed as not really NBA ready and he couldn't go one on one with either of the four guards. Couldn't rebound and his ball handling skills need work. He needs to stay in school and get more work in. The pros will annihilate him and eat him for breakfast. No one on that Zags team is NBA ready. Not one!

Baylor has a blueprint that works. They should continue to recruit the same caliber of players going forward to keep the tradition going. Football players that can play basketball.
@jeremyevans5917
3 жыл бұрын
Their team was very unique and IMO one of a kind, so it would be very hard to have the personnel to replicate this kind of team imo. Yes, recruiting incredibly athletic, strong guys that can dominate the glass and play lock down defense is one thing, but these same guys also happen to be the best 3pt shooting team in the nation, which is almost unheard of. Their starting line up is literally 4 guards Mitchell (6'2), Butler (6'3), Teague (6'4), Vital (6'5) and then Thamba (6'10). On paper, this team should be getting bullied by most teams due to size, yet they always look like the bigger team.

Baylor is not getting enough credit for playing smart basketball. The players executed the game plan. Not to mention that the Baylor guards coached an outstanding game at the same time playing it

Gonzaga had 6"10, 6"7 6"6, 6"4 guys and still they looked small against Baylor. Why? They got weight roomed. Them boys put some work in and it showed. They were like thoroughbreds going against colts. They put the fear in Gonzaga in those first 4 minutes. After that it took the Zags til the 10 minute mark to figure out they were in a basketball game and not spectators. They had height but lost heart. Baylor bought the smoke and Gonzaga choked on it. Nuff said.
Shout out to coach Drew. Took a job most people wouldn't touch and turned it around. The phoenix has risen from the ashes
