Stephanie: The Price a Mother Paid for Leaving Islam

Donate to Ex-Muslims of North America: exmuslims.org/donate/
A Canadian woman who converted to Islam in her late-teens, Stephanie married a Libyan Muslim man, and gave birth to two daughters.
After a few years of living as a faithful Muslim, Stephanie began to have doubts. Recognizing the immorality and irrationality of Islam, Stephanie grew detached from the faith and concerned about her children being raised in such a context.
In 2011, Stephanie left their residence in Libya for a short trip to see her father in Canada.
When safely out of Libya en route to an airport in a neighboring country, her husband unveiled his plan for her: he would never allow her to even visit her daughters again unless she gave up her Canadian custody of the kids. Knowing that retention of custody of her daughters gives them a small chance of gaining their freedom, she refused his offer.
Today, Stephanie lives in Canada, coping with the loss of her dearest loved ones and hopes to one day be reunited with her girls again.

This is not a surprise since the most revered Muslim woman, muhammad's child bride, said the same thing. Take a look: *~ Sahih al-Bukhari 5825* _Rifa`a divorced his wife where upon AbdurRahman married her._ *Aisha (muhammad's child bride he married at 6yo and had sex with at 9yo)* said that the lady (came), wearing a green veil and complained to her (Aisha) of her husband and showed her a green spot on her skin caused by beating. It was the habit of ladies to support each other, so when allah's messenger (muhammad) came, *Aisha said, "I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY WOMAN SUFFERING AS MUCH AS THE BELIEVING (MUSLIM) WOMEN".* Look! Her skin is greener than her clothes!"

@Rasputin 009 I'm going to offer you my perspective on this topic, I'm not sure if you'll find something useful or not in it: (I'm aware that I don't know you and I don't know what you've been through, so take my words as a pinch of salt) I agree with the message, but I think that calling them "swines" is a bit excessive and unjust in my opinion. First of all I think *It's unjust on yourself* for being the one who says these things, you deserve to live as the good person that you are. Don't let Islam ruin yourself in an indirect way. And i think it's also unjust to many Muslims that are such simply because they were born in a Muslim family, in a Muslim country, region etc. And most of them are unaware of the true nature of Islam and they actually believe that it's a peaceful religion and/or are brainwashed into believing in Islam, just like a cult does. Again, I totally agree with the general message, but remember to not let their intolerance and violence into your head and heart.

I am a student of religions, also Islam is not my forte but I'm learning. As I look at it's holy texts I find them to be incredibly different from most, if not all other religions in the degree to which they recommend violence and control thought. I am proud that you find freedom. Perhaps Islam is the last statement of monotheism in the wrong direction - complete possession by one's God. It's the first commandment taken to the extreme. Also, find old 1966 movie "khartoum" online and you might watch for free. There is warning at the end of it about Islam. The movie is of course about Gordon's conflict with the Mahdi and his death in Sudan, a place and people he apparently loved dearly.

@Food Connoisseur, did I say I’m an Ex-Muslim? No, I did not! I carefully chose the words I said. I said I was Muslim nominally (NOMINALLY - i.e. in name only) and also said I was born to a Muslim family of a 100% Muslim community. I’ve a set of very typical Muslim names (first, middle and last) and everyone assumes I’m a Muslim. Because I’m too smart for this fake religion I began suspecting it since I was 10/11 years old. So my friend, let me add one more thing: I regret that I was born to a Muslim family. My opinion is of such extent. I’m now very proud that I’m speaking against the fake religion. I don’t understand why you should go about and call people fake Ex-Muslim. Therefore, finally, m don’t worry about people calling themselves Ex-Muslims, after all the religion is fake in of itself and I haven’t called myself an Ex-Muslim and never will because to say otherwise would be lying on my part for one thing and also giving it a little credence.

What baffles me is how so many _young_ people have fallen for it (religion). I was a kid in the 1970s and I well remember regular news reports of how Sunday church congregations in Britain often struggled to make it into double figures and how religious figures (priests, vicars etc) were reduced to being nothing much more than objects of ridicule on comedy shows. More to the point at hand (concerning Islam), in my gang at school, two of our number were sons of Pakistani immigrants and neither ever went to mosque, thinking exactly like the rest of us 'Christian' kids that religion was well consigned to the dustbin of history. And now look at them... the _young_ people. Pro-segregation ('multiculturalism', 'safe spaces' for 'people of colour'), tribal, ghettoised and, most incredibly, many of them believing in utter nonsense. What happened??!

You can be sure that you are brain washed to think that the girls hate their mother. I feel so sorry for you to carry such a mentality, because you are literally condemning a mother's love for her children. Even if I said: you should be ashame of yourself for thinking that way, but I know you won't because you are so brain washed from the inside. You think you are right and everyone is wrong. That's your perception of the world. That is what you are told and somehow you believe it. How dare you insult a mother's love? Even when you put religion aside, like just looking the raw essence of mother's love, is such a shame that you would condemn her. Even an atheist won't condemn a mother's love.

One of my wifes friends married a muslim.. a very similar story except she was more lucky. During the time I dated my wife to be, we used to go out together with them, and he acted quite western. He even partied and drank alcohol. Anyway, after they married he became more "devout" tried to make her convert to Islam and wear a hijab. She refused, and they also soon after had a son. So he then wanted her and the baby to go on a "vacation" with him to Morocco. She was smart enough not to go, and then the muslim man tried to snatch the kid and go alone. His plan was to keep them in Morocco and have the kid raised as a muslim by his relatives. Anyway, she reported him to the police and they stopped him, it ended up in custody court and divorce, where she got full custody and he left the country. This was before this immigration wave and Islam apologist wave in Europe, so who knows how that would have ended today.. and under Sharia she would have been killed.. Stephanie, It is extremely unlikely that you will get your daughters out. It is not just him. It is the entire tribe, and the entire society. You have a life, and must accept responsibility for your current predicament. Consider getting out there socially, and giving yourself a really positive relationship. Start all over again, before it is too late. And this time, make sure it is somebody who respects you, more than you respect yourself. That is the definition of love. Somebody who believes in you, not somebody who believes in a thug from centuries ago. Somebody who is still connected to nonsense can NOT be in love. I think you deserve better. Your priority is your own emotional growth and renewal. You can love again, and have a family again. There is a world of opportunity for you.

vuk96zj You are wrong in thinking like this. There are millions of Christians who married Muslims and are extremely happy. Many of my ancestors and own family members are married to ex-non-Musims and the have no regrets whatsoever. There are non-Muslims marriages too which are terribly unhappy. These videos are of isolated cases.

Soubeika Bahri she won't be reunited with her daughters any time soon. Only themselves they could one day find her once they are over 18 yo if willing able and ready to make it out of there. It won't be easy but it is not impossible as time goes by, unless they get married soon to an oppressive husband letting them with no money having kids. I am sorry for this woman and I understand her, as back then when she converted she was just looking for new guidance and faiths, and maybe the evils of this "religion" were less known around us. But it's late for her, she has to get on with it and make another family or another life for herself. All this is worth is as lesson for everybody else watching this: always beware of Muslim partners and take all your measures if you have one. You never can tell. Islam is too much in their life and inner self to trust them on anything else it might turn up in contrast. No matter how trustworthy or good they are, they have no word and no sense of loyalty once that requires going against their "faith" or involves something clashing with it. All promises can be broken for that superior cause. I can tell this from close since the mum of my son is a Muslim lady and she got pregnant before we got married and I gave in to a "pretence convertion". We then soon argued and I never did either things, which I am now so glad I didn't. She thought she could pull me in Islam, whereas I almost pulled her out of it while studying its contents and then growing this much antiIslamic... . Now we are fighting over the custody of our son but still in a cuvilised fashion, but I am in a much better position and in MY land. Never ever travel to Islamic land with your kids and your Muslim partner. For no reason. Luckly she can't even if she wanted because her gov forbids our son getting through the border since he's illegitimate

People often mix culture with religion. Her husband was following his cultural traditions, while Stephanie misunderstood what she was reading in the Quran. For example: 1) “O mankind! Fear your Lord Who (initiated) your creation from a single soul, then from it created its mate, and from these two spread (the creation of) countless men and women.” (al-Qur’an, 4:1) This Verse clearly expounds that man or woman are created from a single entity and are basically equal genders. As a gender, one is not superior to the other. 2) Alleging that the Prophet Muhammad sanctioned - or even permitted - the beating or raping of women is patently false. If anything Chapter 24, verse 24 says “those who accuse chaste, unwary, believing women are cursed in this world and the Hereafter.” Women must be protected from such evil and despicable acts. It is recorded that the Prophet Muhammad ordered a man to be punished for rape based on the sole testimony of the rape victim.

@pablo ezkibar Unfortunately, you try to provide an argument by giving out false information: Quran (4:24) and (33:50) ACTUALLY says: And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess. [This is] the decree of Allah upon you. And lawful to you are [all others] beyond these, [provided] that you seek them [in marriage] with [GIFTS from] your property, desiring chastity, NOT unlawful sexual intercourse. So for whatever you enjoy [of marriage] from them, give them their due compensation as an obligation. And there is no blame upon you for what you mutually agree to beyond the obligation. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise. Quran (5:6): O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful. Quran (2:228) Divorced women remain in waiting for three periods, and it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs if they believe in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands have more right to take them back in this [period] if they want reconciliation. And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable. But the men have a degree over them [in responsibility and authority]. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. Quran (4:11) Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females. But if there are [only] daughters, two or more, for them is two thirds of one's estate. And if there is only one, for her is half. And for one's parents, to each one of them is a sixth of his estate if he left children. But if he had no children and the parents [alone] inherit from him, then for his mother is one third. And if he had brothers [or sisters], for his mother is a sixth, after any bequest he [may have] made or debt. Your parents or your children - you know not which of them are nearest to you in benefit. [These shares are] an obligation [imposed] by Allah . Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.

That translation wasn't from my interpretation, it was from a nation of peaceful, practising muslims: AGAIN: Quran (4:11) Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females. Quran (2:282) O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, write it down. And let a scribe write [it] between you in justice. Let no scribe refuse to write as Allah has taught him. So let him write and let the one who has the obligation dictate. And let him fear Allah, his Lord, and not leave anything out of it. But if the one who has the obligation is of limited understanding or weak or unable to dictate himself, then let his guardian dictate in justice. And bring to witness two witnesses from among your men. And if there are not two men [available], then a man and two women from those whom you accept as witnesses - so that if one of the women errs, then the other can remind her. And let not the witnesses refuse when they are called upon. And do not be [too] weary to write it, whether it is small or large, for its [specified] term. That is more just in the sight of Allah and stronger as evidence and more likely to prevent doubt between you, except when it is an immediate transaction which you conduct among yourselves. For [then] there is no blame upon you if you do not write it. And take witnesses when you conclude a contract. Let no scribe be harmed or any witness. For if you do so, indeed, it is [grave] disobedience in you. And fear Allah . And Allah teaches you. And Allah is Knowing of all things. Quran (2:223) Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish and put forth [righteousness] for yourselves. And fear Allah and know that you will meet Him. And give good tidings to the believers. Quran (53:27) Why did you change your interpretation of the gender of the angles from female to male? Stupid. "Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names," I've explained everything in my previous text. Learn how to READ instead of trying to MISLEAD.

I had a Muslim boyfriend (long time ago) and we planned to get married and move to his country in the Middle East. I figured everything would work out somehow (I was quite deluded, of course). But then one day he casually mentioned "you'll have to convert to Islam when we marry." We had never talked about this before. My immediate answer was, "OK, but I'll always really be a Christian." That night, I thought about what I had said so quickly .... and it gave me pause. When the wedding plans fell through soon after that, I was so relieved ... felt I had avoided a cosmic blunder. Thank God for putting those words and that thought into my head!

No that’s not fair , good and evil exist in any religion/country/race/ it can also be a mental problem people go through you just can’t blame religion for it! Islam’s teachings came to Earth to correct the Bible and Torah which have been changed over the years , so the Quran is like an updated version of the Bible and Torah which not even one letter has been changed since it was sent down to this Earth and ever since Muslims have followed but not all Muslims follow some are just Muslim by name! Stephanie, I watched the video last year. And it was a painful story. You are correct to speak about this. Because there are women born into Islam, who think it is "normal" to have men who are more in love with bad ideas than their own wives. And that NEEDS to be challenged. Stephanie, you have time to start a new life. And you deserve another chance. There are men out there who WILL respect you, and who will give you a relationship centred on you, not centred on a stupid, disrespectful concept that is called "honour". Press the reset button, and leave that clown behind you. Defeat Islam, with a new life for yourself. Like Yasmine Mohammed did.

Ahkam, tajweed, fiqh, learned some Arabic for Quran, and had memorized and learned tafsir for parts of the Quran plus maybe half the last juz. It’s a mistake to think I (or other ex Muslims) didn’t THINK and REASON our way out of Islam as we studied it. People change and ideologies change, I knew my husband well enough, 8 yrs in Canada before we ended up in libya. Beyond all this, Islam is what it is: sexist, homophobic, absurd and violent, as taught by the Quran and “prophet”. And if you knew anything about Islam you’d have to support what my husband did. Never stay in a religion just because your parents brainswashed you into it. Also, the god of Abraham hates you. If you’re comfortable with that, more power to you!

My sister, yours is a sad story. I cannot help, but I tell a little about myself. I am a 62 years old Muslim man. I know 2 Muslim men who are apostate (or close), as was I. Even so, I never stopped believing in God. My disbelieve is Islam was never about God. It was about my understanding of philosophy and justice not in accordance with Islam that made me stop being Muslim. It was only when I realised how brainwashed I had been (at 42 years old), that I could address each of my brainwash. And at 62 years old, I finally address the concerns which led me to stop being Muslim. These concerns, I had to address on a basic level, which are the Koran and the hadiths. Nobody could help me, because nobody helped me to address those concerns. I guess, even if you stop believing in God, there is a chance He will help you, anyway. But there is a better chance of help coming if you do believe and ask. Islam, the religion, is not the same as Muslims, not the culture.
