🔹//Description//
This is a project that Steph has been wanting for YEARS. I can't thank LOWES enough for partnering with Me on this awesome project and hooking me up with some awesome Cali floors. So I would have loved nothing more than to just start laying these floors down but unfortunately there is a lot of prep work that goes into getting the existing floors ready for the new product! That's where this video comes in!! Thankfully I had some help from Nana and Pop Pop to help me get ready. As always I SERIOUSLY can't thank all my subscribers and viewers that aren't subscribed (not sure why not LOL ) for all the support and continued views on the channel!! I hope you love this as much as Steph is going to love these floors!!!

@dawnc1419 You just finished calling him A MAN and then start carrying on about calling him a whimp for getting his feelings hurt by trolls. You're the one that needs to stop being a helicopter parent of this grown man, damn it !!! There weren't any trolls mummy, there some grown adults that called Jag out for not making the fire HE SAID he was a going tk make. He simply manned up , admitted he'd failed to keep his word, and promptly went outdoors to rectify the situation. ( Fuil marks Jay 👌👍👏👏takes a man to respond to being called out for failing to keep your word)!!!!! And JAY , I'm going to apologise for this dimwitted female who's treating you like a "PRECIOUS." So sick of these helicopter parents who want to wrap-up kids and adult men to protect them from someone having an opinion. And in this case she's insulted you big time!!! We're not all pathetic dim wits like her, there's plenty of us out here that appreciate a man. Manning up when he gets it wrong, admits it and rectifies it. There were no trolls and even if there were, I can't see why you can't deal with them. Trolls are not people with differing opinions to yours. It's unhealthy to live in "ECHO CHAMBERS" Dawn. These YT channels are exclusive to mamby pamby females who never had a critical thought in their lives. OK, Jay , I've chewed her out. Hopefully she'll stay shtum from now on. They're simply pitiful and an embarrassment to us all. P.S. that FIRE made it worth them calling you out mate !!!!!! It was a BLOODY BEWDY ..... in Aussie slang. 🇦🇺🤗💞🙏👍👌✌️👊🇺🇸

Pro tip... put a thin but wide piece of wood or laminate between the wall and the tool that you use to remove the base boards. It'll further protect the drywall

I use my 4-6” drywall knife as a backer for the glazers bar or wonderbar for this. Also for removing misfired brads from good trim to prevent dents. Works!

If you get your floors straight and you do the minimum gap between the wall or cabinet you can caulk the gap with big stretch! My wife was adamant she didn’t want trim in the bathroom, it took forever to get my starting line measured out and it took some precision measurements and cuts but I got it laid down and then set tape lines and caulked and it looks amazing! Her only gripe is that the caulk line attracts dust ! I told her it would lol😂!

Prep work is always the key to a good finished product. Many want a speculator end result but are unwilling to do the prep and finishing to get there. No complaints and always great to burn up some materials and relax at the end of the day as you plan the next.

Good luck, looking forward to seeing how the floors turn out. Idea for your bathtub project; have you considered something like Wedi, GoBoard, Kerdi board? If you could attach some framing to the floor you could probably cover that whole space with one sheet and throw up some tile or stone. If anyone actually does start using the tub it might hold up better than wood, given splashes and drips, and would look nice too.

Congrats on the new flooring. Hope the project goes well as I know how much tedious work it is. I'm doing some cheap laminate right now on a rental and for removing caulked baseboards I actually found a 3" and 4" richard scraper worked really well for prying loose away from drywall and you can actually crank on the stiff ones without bending or causing drywall damage. Also for things like the door jambs its common to chisel the locking groove off of your piece and slide them into tight and awkward spaces with a puller or block and use wood glue on the joint to make things fit cleanly underneath the jambs. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to get them under spots like that without starting in that spot which never happens.

Not giving you a hard time about covering your existing floors, I completely understand your wife's point of view and certainly the financial costs of refinishing the hardwood, but I do feel it's a bit of a shame to cover the hardwood and tile. I hope to build my own home someday and will have all hardwood and tile floors, no carpet anywhere, and truthfully any hardwood will be used as accent flooring, what I really want is waxed terra cotta tiles pretty much everywhere, softened by area rugs. Mostly for maintenance ease, I'm no spring chicken, hahaha.

But, I still think it might be a good idea to add a thin underlayment all over just to help even out and minor imperfections. The extra cushioning I found also made a huge difference in my house. My LVP floors I can stand on all day. In my tile kitchen, my heels really start to hurt if I'm cooking and cleaning for a few hours

Jay, great choice on a floor that your better half wants. That's the right choice! Question: did you consider removing enough baseboard for the flooring throughout the entire house (like on the doors) rather than remove all trim?

  • @brycehinton7860

    @brycehinton7860

    3 ай бұрын

You can't go under something on both ends of the flooring run. For example, you could leave the back wall and left wall baseboard but would have to remove the rest since the planks have to tip to click together. Then you would have to rip all the boards you removed to the height of the ones you cut off and left. It is easier to just take out the baseboards. The other option is to leave all baseboards and put Quarter round or shoe mold up. This is pretty commonly done by flooring installers because it's fast and they don't risk damaging the walls.

Does the LVP need to acclimate?

I don’t think so. I’m just so used to Laying normal floors that I was just kind of a habit. Thanks for watching

@@Building_Jays_Way Thanks for the reply! I am probably going to put about 1500 sq. ft. of LVP down in the next year or so! Love your videos, and I'm glad I saw this pop up on your channel

Why didn't you pull up the old flooring?

Didn’t feel like I needed to. Just a lot of extra work when all of the floor is mostly flat insecure so going over it will be super easy with the vinyl flooring. And I think it will look great. Thanks for watching

@@Building_Jays_Way That what I was figuring. I wouldn't want to do all that extra crap. Can't wait to see it. I really like that type of wood grain.

At least you're not ripping the wooden floor out or painting it 😲 just covering it over....
