I weigh 500lbs and needed my own custom bed frame. I used all 2x4's, 12"OC with 9 legs that come down. I used OSB as the surface and wrapped it in black landscaping plastic to protect the bottom side of my mattress. I will always recommend someone build a bed frame/base if they have the capability. It's so nice knowing it's going to be strong for ever.
I know Ray isn't on the channel anymore but I'd love to see how his kitchen turned out, love the videos keep up the great work

@@bemckinn1985- Jamie, you need to inform Ray to take a video of his finished kitchen, then play it on your channel. Lots of people want to see his kitchen!
Jay, I love your channel! I have been watching you for years on Perkins Brother Builder’s and started watching you about 7-8 months ago. Your doing a great job explaining everything and showing how your doing all of the work that you are doing! You are killing it! Great job keep it up! Love you and Steph. ❤❤

We miss Ray but glad your here Buddy.
Love you Jay and fantastic you always trying to fix something in. You really don’t know how to do but you try your best when you’re gonna build yourself a shit clean out your working area to put your cars in don’t you get snow out there where you live you need a good working bond is what you need. Jamie’s got one. Why can’t you have one? Catch you later have a good holiday. Keep your family safe. See you on the next video.
Looks good, Jay I would be wearing a mask, when sanding
You should get the Perkins to let you do a shout out on their channel for your channel. I had no idea you had your own show.

been going back throuh your old catalogue. Not been disappointed so far. Keep it up mate!
Looks great! I'd maybe suggest some holes in the plywood to keep the bottom side of your mattress from developing mold, without a box frame your mattress can't air out as usual

Just for giggles, in Australia a slang term for a bed is "workbench" as it is where the all the good jobs get done....!!
You should’ve painted the top of that plywood
Thanks for keeping us entertained and inspired (pssst my wife says different 😆) Did Ray ever finish his kitchen?
I hope that good woman of yours really appreciate all the hard work you do for her around the house after slaving away all day with running the Perkins outfiit, Im shaw that mob would go broke without you there 😂😂😂 Love your vids man keep'em coming, i always look forward to them.😁👍👌🇦🇺

When I still was living at home, I did worry that my bed was squeaking... Jay is running to his 40/50 and he is still worried about a squeaking bed. He did show off that the old bed was not up to the task more than only sleeping :-). But he overbuilt this time.
Great strong work bench Jay and it has storage. love your videos.
Seeing Jay doing his math for outside or inside resonated so much with any of my projects... so ... is it inside or outside here ... how much do I remove ? let me do the math AGAIN just to be sure
Belt sander investment
If you wanted the baskets to be 18x18 internal then you should have made the spaces about 20x18. Accounting for the width of the basket frames etc. Also, are you going to use soft close rails or are the baskets just being out on the floor? What about all the wasted space in the middle ? Could have been used for something probably.
@Building_Jays_Way

Yeah I thought about that when I was editing it!! Lol.
Jay you could really do with some breather holes in the plyboard, to allow heat from the mattress to escape and to stop the mattress from going mouldy

I believe the channel has a got a lot better since Ray quit I like it when he includes his wife and family

Good content as always! Pro Tip: If you're putting the mattress directly on the plywood you should cut some holes/slots so it can "breath" its important for the mattress to breath and air out.

I love it if it was my bad, there would be broken toes constantly
I have built 2 bed frames myself, the one I'm sleeping on now, I can lift it from the front and store stuff under the mattres, mine is the size of a twin x-tra, my bottom is made with 2x12, the second section is 2x8,witch holds the mattres ,plenty of storage
Jason get yourself an Australian tape measure in millimetres it would be so much easier
Idk how it broke 😂

Looking at that base I would have been tempted to have access to the central area.. it would be good to store the winter / summer quilts for winter jackets
Great idea 👏🏻👏🏻great job 🥰
Looks good Jay 😊
Great build. 👍
U need ventilation for the underside of the mattress - just run the router across the plywood to make some vent lines.
Great video. Can't wait for part 2.

Looks awesome. I wood recomend that you paint the hole top of the wood. Just for long term maintenance. Unfinished wood is very porous and will soak up smell. Especially dog smell. Take it from someone who learned the hard way.

cut holes in the ply or long strips out so mattress can beathe. unless you want mold.
Jay, welcome to the men’s world…. Lol…. If you’re got some storage in your bedroom - boom wow, how did that happen 😁
Thats why God invented shims Jay.
re: Lexel @37:00 adhesion/waterproofing is *opposite* of what's important underneath a mattress. For healthy sustainable sleep, you'll need ventilation to prevent microbes/mold taking up residence in an "enclosed" space ---> use a hole saw drill bit to make large openings in your plywood at 1 ft intervals (same idea as holes on a cat carrier) to allow air to remove the respiration moisture from your bodies as you sleep!!!

@@Building_Jays_Way you'll not need to perforate the 8 niches on the left or right sides (for your basket-drawers) since that plywood can breath as its open to outside -- just the center area "boxed in" at sides by boards at top and bottom
Nice job Jay. I'm a weekend DIY carpenter and pocket screws are always my go to fastening system. This bed frame will last your lifetime!
Hey Jayson…do you believe that beds usually break on weekends?✌️love watching what you guys do

2x12 in the mountains! Lol
Damn Jay I didn't know you were a plumber now. Laying too much pipe ended up breaking the bed.
Good going Jay, beds aren't precision so your 3/8" will be lost. I'm liking the walnut stain you've used it looks really good. I made my son a captain's bed, many years ago, with a closet at the head. There was a hidden compartment at the bottom of the closet so he could hide under the bed as all the sides were covered. Please wear a mask when you sand, I was like you, but then my lungs got diseased with Pulmonary Fibrosis and now I'm terminally ill, there is no treatment, no cure. Please just consider it, at the the end of the day it is up to you. Great post, thanks for sharing, keep safe and well 🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨
That is a Tom Silva pro tip!

How well does the mattress stay on the plywood. Mine has a tendency to slide around so I put a 1/2 guard rail around the mattress.
