Nice video. I was hoping you'd show how to measure the size of the thumb and then drill out the slug too. It would also be cool to see how to drill an oval thumb slug. I've never used an interchangeable thumb system and I just bought a JoPo setup for my whole arsenal. I'm excited to try it.

My local pro shop just started to get in jopo’s. I have been using vise ever since i started going to them but i will be switching to jopo once they get everything in.

Great video, even though I will never be doing this, as I would probably completely screw that up. I have a new ball shipping to me now, and I am hoping my local pro shop can install these on every one of my balls.

If both the ball hole pitch and the insert pitch are the same, would we not be basically doubling the pitches? Or am I missing something? (I’m not a driller so apologies if I got this wrong but from the math pov it kind of looks like double) great video and thanks.

No worries! So, you drill the outer the same pitch and then when you put the inner in, you need to drill that at the same pitch and then use the plug cutter to make the inner flush. You are not doubling the pitch by doing this. Now, if we were to drill an outer 1/4 reverse, 0 lateral, and then drill an inner at 1/8 forward, 0 lateral, you would probably cut into the outer. You have some leeway messing with different pitches based on your outer pitch. But, I recommend doing the same pitch for both.

I have a ball already drilled with basic thumb slug (not interchangeable; old school). Is it possible to exchange out for a JoPo Grips system? I would love to see a video retrofitting JoPro in a ball already with holes that are already properly spaced.

You sure can! I can create a video like this soon. There’s a few steps involved but not too difficult. Your local pro shop should be able to help you as well if they carry JoPo products.

When you use the JoPo drill bit you said go all the way down, does the stopper touch the ball, but do you press or no? Will the stopper dig or leave scratches on the ball cover ?

When drilling a jopo outer, you want to go all the way and pay very close attention when you’re getting close to the surface. I typically gently shim the surface just to help 100% know I’m where I need to be and there’s barely any noticeable mark. If you press down more and hit the surface, you typically leave a black burn mark but you can easily buff it out. If you go a less less that getting to the top there, you’ll notice inconsistencies in depth. Hope this helps!

Hey there! I would say shop prices vary by the shop you go to. But I will say my buddy went from IT’s to JoPo and said cost is around the same but will never go back to the IT’s. He had many IT’s break never had one JoPo break in his life. :)

would you be able to tell me what the specs of that drill press are? I'm looking to start drilling my own equipment.

Hey hey! I recently got rid of my press (remodeling my basement shop). I don’t have the exact specs, but if you wanna start drilling your own try checking Facebook marketplace for tabletop presses. Be sure tho that your base is VERY stable. Don’t want the press to wobble and cause inconsistencies!

If I have vise could I switch it to jopo or would that be to hard for the pro shop to do

Easy to do! All they would do is plug up those holes and re drill into it with a JoPo outer. I’ve had a few friends do this and they had zero issues. Obviously, have to make sure it’s not quick plug and it’s hardened nice. Your pso should know what to do ;)

JoPo makes a tool that helps get the thumb slug out of the ball! You’ll find this on their website. Link is in the description 🙂
