This has got to be an exception, when such an early declaration of war from an advanced start neighbor not only works in your favor but literally the only reason you got out of that box. Good thing you invested res in tributes, that sure paid for itself. Funniest thing, the NHarr pretty much handed the Twax over to be assimilated :D

Generally that early on It's the wraith being killed, which isn't nearly as difficult as other leviathans - I seen It a few times now so It isn't as much a shock! :P

Javier Zurera - Ah, then it was almost certainly the wraith as the wraith can happily run right into marauder or fallen empire territory and is pretty much doomed at this point! Unless a fallen empire was already punishing a nearby empire already, either hitting the wraith or another leviathan though the latter is far less likely!

when robot empires fight together in total war scenarios, who gets the system is based off of adjacency. I was playing a normal robot empire and was federated with an determined killer and when they started wars or were declared on i could take over space that was adjacent to mine, and if no-one was adjacent then it went to who did the final blow.

Javier Zurera - It's because those systems were not directly attached to my systems when they attacked them, and as they landed the final blow they claimed it. It was FAR closer to my empire, but It's all about attachment first THEN whoever landed the final hit, which was them!

It'd be cool to see you take an updated run at this empire type again outside of this challenge, maybe when origins drops? I'd suggest a Colossus challenge, where you try to rush for their special Nanobot Diffuser Colossus, and only 'invade' occupied worlds using that.

Good thing I decided to not sleep, otherwise I would have missed one of my favorite series!

With such settings, driven assimilator is most likely the best move. Decent armies, machine eco, planet sniping and diplo even. The galaxy is doomed, not even including cybrex

You inspired me to try out an - not "imposssible", but "very hard" challenge for myself: Carnivores! So: I only eat slaves! So I chose the Syncretic evolution, Named them Escargots, and set them to livestock :-D - I set all things to max, but also randomised, so I have no idea if there will be 15 or 30 empires - and I was a bit less harsh on midgame start, 2250 /2300 IIRC, with victory points to be calculated2350 or so, in prep for next run, if I make it there :-) The self imposed "only eat my own chattel" really is negative for pop production. boxed in by 3 empires that are overwhelming, and all hate me, but only in double digits so far :-D

Y'know, when I saw that there weren't any changes to tech/tradition cost I was a little confused, given that surely those can be made more difficult. Then I checked the original MaTN run and he didn't change it either, so carry on I guess.

amazingly lucky start, though i suspect not moving to claim more systems before the war ended may hurt you just from the influence and alloy cost of rebuilding those stations, not to mention other direct threats having the opportunity to move into that space too will make it harder to secure the choke points. also looks like your ally got even with you by grabbing a chunk to the north, going to be bordergore thats just not worth dealing with unfortunately and more than likely will deprive you of whatever that archeology site was

I was honestly planning on grabbing some of that space myself, but the allied ground forces grabbed the planet as I started to move out to grab the systems. Should have moved a bit quicker, but I also was worried about the other empires forces attacking so I wanted it over quickly to ensure I got the world.

Talk about one side hating the other, in my run there is two fanatic materialists, myself included and we are surrounded by three spirititoulests. Two of which we are rivals.

The reason you were getting the territory is because you were the “main combatant” which meant that any gains would go to you, and only you or your attacker can offer peace deals

Did you know; if you bombard a planet in the process of being colonized, the colonization bar will decrease until zero, at which point the entire colonization will be cancelled. Found that out on accident.

Haha yeah I've done that before in various runs! But since I could invade the world and not spend the colonisation cost along with having a few populations to assimilate I thought It was better to wait. :)

Maybe for Attempt 3 you try a friendly megacorp? It might help out with the advanced start neighbors and very small amount of space.

It's common to all empires when your ally grabs a system that's near your border you get it except if they've claimed it

If you go down the route of the genetic ascension hives mind can actually take over and assimilate populations they take from planets during invasions! It's just more mid-late game than the robotic equivalent! :)

You should do a 1 system game where you can only get other systems by claiming and declaring war

The ai will generally refuse all trades for systems. Its only there for multiplayer.

Isn't a rock bot essentially a golem?

You were getting those systems because they were 1 jump away from your systems.

Also, if you noticed that ally (the Tronzaru Replicators) took some systems nearby, that hapepened he captured a system which was not one jump away from any of the systems you currently owned or fully controled. In that case the system is rewarded to the attacker, who in this case was your ally. Now, if there is a system which is one jump away from both allies, (I THINK) it's rewarded to the attacker.

Lath Suggestion Choke points

I almost always go for choke points, check out my other recent playthroughs for some pretty extreme cases of that! I was already going for the choke point to the right when I found the other empire, likely because the advanced start had already gave it that territory with it being so close to their homeworld, I was slow to grab it due to not knowing about If the other systems above that connected outwards or not and was focused on getting the first world and getting the choke point to stop the machine empire from expanding. :) I expected to have a bit more time to grab the systems so really I should have just been more aggressive with that, IF they didn't have the system to begin with anyway! Will be more aggressive with it moving forwards, though do remember this run has increased hyperlane density so good choke points are far less common.

Wait...if you make Rogue Servitors, can their Organic Pops have Syncretic Evolution? Can you be Machines that tend to Organics in control of Lithoids? That's 17 extra Pops right there.

Sadly the organic populations don't have their own civics like Syncretic evolution, they are just lovely little drones of the machine empire to grow to begin with! Though having three species at the start like that would be hilarious! :)
