Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZread, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZread. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZread, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

"Is there gas in the cah? Yes there's gas in the cah." Donald Fagen is a freakin' legend!
This song is about Owsley Stanley. He was an audio engineer and sometimes chemist who made the best LSD at the time. He was the sound engineer for the Grateful Dead. One of my favorite SD songs. ✌️♥️🎶

Oh, those were the days......having a chemist as an engineer. Talk about engineering some highs!

Nope. The misdirection which was laughable. Knowing people who worked with them. Now everyone knows LSD was not their thing. !! Ever. It was coke.

Thank you for the explanation of this song! I have always loved Steely Dan but had no idea what the lyrics meant! 🎶✌🏻
Give props to guitarist extraordinaire, Larry Carlton, a jazz legend.
This entire album is one "groove pocket" after another. The rhythm section of Chuck Rainey (bass) and Bernard Purdie (drums) are on absolute fire throughout. I think this is the Dan's best album...every track is a funky, gritty, groovin' beast.

"The Fez" has a great groove pocket, among others.

Keep listening, Steely Dan don't cut bad tracks. I have yet to find a bad tune. Best musicians ever. RIP Walter
Such a great song. That's Larry Carlton on guitar, one of the finest jazz guitarists ever. He was a member of The Crusaders and played on many Steely Dan songs. Next up for Dan songs, I'd suggest FM (No Static at All) or Black Cow. Both are amazing!
Their tribute to Owsley Stanley, sound engineer & chemist extraordinaire to the Grateful Dead. My favorite Steely Dan tune. ✌️❤️🎶

Did not realize this. It is so good to now go past the music and listen (and understand) the lyrics. Better living through chemistry!
This song is one of my all time favorite songs by one of my all time fav bands!!
The incomparable Larry Carlton! 🔥🤘✌my favorite band since 72!
Don't know why, but, my favorite part of that song is " is there gas in the car? " " Yes, there's gas in the carrr!" But there wasn't! D'oh!
The legend is that Owlsey got caught when he ran out of gas. " Is there gas in the car??" There has never been a " Sounds like Steely Dan Band ". Unique.

I won't say they sound like Steely Dan , but Leonid & Friends recorded a cover of "My Old School,"and knocked it outta the park.
Steely Dan was sooo smooth while keeping the funk in their groovy jazz.

They still are! 😀
Larry Carlton plays the guitar solo on Kid Charlemagne. He's known for the 'sweet tone' that he generates from his Gibson 335 and Fender Tweed amp. He's a top-session musician and has played on thousands of recordings. He's got some excellent solo albums, too.
Yesss! Fusion is the correct nomenclature my man. Spot on Bro.
If you want to learn more about the story of the Merry Pranksters and the west coast psychedelic scene read the book The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. It pretty much tells the whole story.
One of their (many) classics.
Favorite lyric, "Everyone stopped to stare at your Technicolor motorhome"... Love you're reactions my Dude, much success to you and your channel.
Steely Dan were great, Can’t Buy A Thrill is my favorite album
Everyone sings the praises of Larry Carlton's guitar work on this song, and I'm one of them, but how about Chuck Rainey holding it down with those clean bass lines.
The coolest sounding band in the universe. A nice funky song by them that you would enjoy is "Josie". It's a great jazz funk blend. Steely Dan is one of my favorite bands. I have all of their albums and because they are all so good, I don't actually have a favorite.
One of my favorite things about this particular song is you can listen to it one instrument the entire song and come away with a "wow" feeling.
Steely Dan is always so tight. Musical geniuses.
"Every A-Frame had your number on the wall." Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead lived in a Mill Valley A-Frame for decades. Very popular with the Marin county hippies.
*FUN FACTS>>> *The Famous Singer, Michael McDonald did Many Backing Vocals on their songs!!! **Also, Chevy Chase Played Drums in an Earlier Version of the band> Becker and Fagen began playing in local groups. The "Don Fagen Jazz Trio", the "Bad Rock Group" and later the "Leather Canary"-included Future Comedy Star CHEVY CHASE on drums. They played covers of songs by The Rolling Stones ("Dandelion"), Moby Grape ("Hey Grandma"), and Willie Dixon ("Spoonful"), as well as some original compositions.
This song, along with "Haitian Divorce," "Don't Take Me Alive," and "Dirty Work" are my top four from the Dan. But, come to think of it, they didn't cut any bad tracks, so you really can't go wrong.
Yes, the genre. Thank you, a favorite. More more!
this constantly on in my car when it came out, Larry Carltons guitar work on this album is still some of the best ive heard.
This whole album is great!
So original! Always brilliant 🤗♥️🎶
What you heard as an effect on the bass is the clavinet played by Don Grolnick, probably with a some effect on it
Steely Dan is a great compilation of two guys and many different session musicians all throughout. Check out "Rikki Dont Lose that Number". Great as always! Love your reaction channel... so well done!! ✌ Jodi/child of the 60s
One of so many fantastic and unique songs done in what one could say is the Steely Dan style which is a blend of music. Try reacting the My Old School by The Dan which is based partly a true story about Walter and Don’s old college,(Bard College in upstate NY)
You’ll like “Hey 19”.
This song has at least a tiny bit of familiarity to a more modern audience thanks to Kanye sampling it a couple decades ago.
Owsley Stanley was a creative genius. He was an innovator in his work with The Dead of large crowd festival gatherings and arranged the sound so that even the most remote audience members could get a perspective of the band with higher fidelity. His sound arrangements are still in use today.
In your left ear, it was a clavichord/clavinet not a bass. It is a keyboard type instrument.
You could absolutely not put a single label on Steely Dan; no pigeonhole big enough for them.
Consider some deep cuts of Crowded House, Dukes of Strstosphere, Martin Newall and Marshall Crenshaw (especially from _Mary Jean & 9 Others_ album.
Here's the Name Origin> Now, all they needed was a name. Of course, it would come from a left-field but unsurprising source. As both Becker and Fagen were huge fans of the bizarre world of 1950s ‘Beat’ literature, they chose the name Steely Dan. It was pulled directly from William S. Burrough’s highly controversial 1959 novel, Naked Lunch. So what or who is ‘Steely Dan’, you might ask? For those of you who haven’t read the meandering, psychotropic book, ‘Steely Dan III from Yokohama’ is the name of an oversized, steam-powered strap-on dildo that is used by Mary during the chapter of the book entitled ‘A.J.’s Annual Party’.
Very good analysis.
Wanda Jackson:Fujiama mama and Hotdog, That Makes Him Mad. She was Elvis's first fiance.
