Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZread, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZread. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZread, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

When listening to Steely Dan, first groove to the music. Lyrics are important and their lyrics are usually clever but the sound must come first. IMHO

Shaun leads into the song telling us about the good messages Steely Dan gives in their songs…and then we hear a song about a desperate guy who likely killed his father, has taken hostages and threatening to use dynamite. 😂 wait till he gets to “Everyone’s Gone To The Movies” or “Cousin Dupree” or even “Haitian Divorce”

There are no bad Steely Dan songs ~ ~ ~ FYI.... "In a 1977 interview with NPR, Fagen said of the song: “It’s about a guy who’s completely beyond hope, but he’s still got a shred of dignity in there somewhere.”

The lead guitar player is Larry Calton who is a famous Jazz guitar player. Check out his solo albums. This song is still a smooth jazz tune with hints of Rock. ❤

You should tey Black Friday one of these days. Their lyrics are always ridiculously interesting and entertaining and it absolutely rocks. Maybe their hardest rocker. "When Black Friday comes, im gonna stand down by the door, and catch the grey men when the dive from the 14th floor"...just a sampling of the lyrics which drip with cynicism and resignation. Spectacular.

Steely Dan are story tellers. Most songs are brilliant short stories with well drawn characters on top of superb music and production. They're one of a kind, except Donald Fagan's solo work sounds like a SD extension. From this album, Green Earrings is a must hear!

Every once in a while you see that discussion question, "what song intro do you hear that makes you turn the volume up?". For me it's this. By the time that first arpeggio is picked through, I've got the volume up. Somebody else said it, but it's hard to improve on the description. Steely Dan's genre is, Steely Dan.

Hostage movies were hot at the time. Dog Day Afternoon was an example of a “bank robbery gone wrong” where they took hostages and held out making demands. I assume this song was loosely inspired by that. But Donald probably thinks that sounds hack.

I'm a singer in a Dan tribute band, and this is my favourite as a vocalist. Really great lyrics. Also, Carlton's guitar work is just stunning. How many bands can successfully start a song with a guitar solo as brilliant as this?

You label this genre as Steely Dan. They created it. Hell, they created a chord structure. Steely Dan is credited with creating the mu major chord, also known as the "μ chord". This chord is a major triad with an added 2, and is characterized by the major 2 interval between the 2 and the 3. The mu chord is often used in jazz circles and is distinctive to Steely Dan

Its imagery and references throughout are taken from the ancient Greek poem "The Odyssey" by Homer, displaying Fagen's and Becker's familiarity with great literature and its themes. Nothing there about impending death, though. Quite the opposite, since Hercules knew how to outwit the Sirens (monsters) who lured most sailors to their death on the rocks.

He's a fugitive from killing his dad, and he's barricaded himself in a cabin in the woods of Oregon, and he has a case of Dynamite. The FBI is outside and have surrounded him and are talking to him over a megaphone to give himself up. His reply is "Don't take me Alive." Not a good situation, but a damn good song.
