Daytime running lamps
Daytime running lights are bright white forward-facing lights that improve the visibility of a vehicle in the daytime.
A pair of daytime running lamps may be fitted to a motor vehicle, symmetrically about the centreline of the vehicle. The lights must be wired so they are not illuminated while the vehicle's main headlights are on.
They also must conform to location and performance requirements outlined in the Australian Design Rules 13/00 and 76/00 respectively. Daytime running lamps should not be fitted to the roof, bonnet or side rear vision mirrors.
Aftermarket daytime running lights
Aftermarket daytime running lights (DRL) may be fitted without an application for modification, provided they comply with the requirements in the relevant ADR and the South Australian Road Traffic (Light Vehicle Standards) Rules 2018, including:
The colour of the emitted light must be white. Where fitted on the pre-October 1991 model vehicles, the colour of the emitted light may be white or amber and not use over 25 watts of power.
The number of lights must be 2.
They must be symmetrically fitted on the front of the vehicle, equidistant to the centre line of the vehicle (see Figure 1).
They cannot be fitted to the roof, bonnet, or side rear vision mirrors of the vehicle.
They must switch on automatically when the engine is switched on. Daytime running lights may remain OFF while the following conditions exist:
The automatic transmission control is in the park position, or
The parking brake is in the applied position, or
Prior to the vehicle being set in motion for the first time after each manual activation of the engine.
They must switch off automatically when the engine is turned off or the headlights are switched on.

I've been considering a pair of lights like these. Not just to be seen, but I don't reckon the stock Tansalp headlight is all that bright, as shown in your night demonstration. Not that I ride at night much, but just for when I do. How much did you spend on the conversion?

Hi, did you have to set the lights up to be recogised by the bike by using the short service connector at all? If so, what was the procedure? Also is it the female plugs you need? Thanks.

Hello -I ordered the Stedi lights for my Transalp XL750 and installed them. They look great! But when it came time to do the electrical connections, there was only ONE connector under the flexible rubber "condom". The Sumitomo plug was not there -only the one with the green dots. Any idea where I can find the correct one? Right now I have the lights on the bike, but not plugged in. I purchased the bike in Canada this past February. Any clues where they might have hidden the stock aux lighting connectors would be most helpful. Cheers!

@@HardPackedADV Yes I checked the other side as well -to no avail. I just saw a posting saying that those connectors are not included on the North American Transalps. Not sure what to do next. Need to find a harnes like the one Honda uses for their optional Honda aux lights I suppose. Not sure how available it would be.

@@HardPackedADV Yes I was able to set the fog lights to on in the service menu so the option to switch them on and the blue bar shows but if I highlight the on nothing happens. Maybe I'm stupid, are the led lights polarity sensitive?

  • @HardPackedADV

Most LED lights are polarity sensitive ie Positive to positive. The Stedi lights that I fitted are wired to match the colours so I am assuming that they polarity sensitive.

It will depend on the LED's that you are connecting. The Stedi brand can go either way. Best to check with your lights manual.
